Massage/spa day for both.

Floral arrangement delivered to their house day of party.
I have been out of the wedding circuit for awhile, so need some engagement gift ideas. A close friend from the past is getting married and I have been invited to her engagement party. We have lost touch over the years, but we were close enough that she was a bridesmaid in my wedding. I want to get the couple a nice gift, but they have been living on their own for awhile now so don't think the usual household items are needed. I have never been to an engagement party so don't even know what is appropriate? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Gift certificate to a fabulous restaurant or a couples massage at a spa. Anything that they can enjoy doing together is a good choice.
my cousin was living with her fiance for almost two yrs before they got married and me with my husband for a year. we both agree that you dont want little items like candles (no offense megan c) because honestly you don't have room for them. my cousin had a gift card shower and used the gift card to buy things they needed throughout the years you could stick a gift card in a nice wedding albulm for them
I always give a set of nice votice candle holders and some scented candles. I found some that when placed together form a flower.
Other ideas:
- a nice booklet/cache for storing her wedding plans.
- a gift card to a nice restaurant
- if they drink, a nice bottle of wine/wineglasses
