My daughters childhood friend just got engaged. They are only 19! I normally would get them a bottle of wine & wine glasses but they are underage. Any engagement gift ideas?
You could always go with sparkling cider--there are so many varieties now--and the glasses. Or a gift card so they can go out for dinner at a nice place. At 19, especially if they are in school, they probably don't have the money for the nicer meals etc. Or even just a card congratulating them and tickets to a movie or such. I was engaged at 18 and married at 19. And still married years later.
JC, I would go with a congratulations and leave it at that for now. At 19 chances are they may not make it all the way to getting married. 19 is awfully young. Not being negative about an engagement that young but I know I was madly in love at 19 and again at 20 and finally met and married my true love at 25. Good luck to them.

You can just send them a nice card or enclose a gift card for a nice, local restaurant. Or, buy them a "golden opportunity book" that is sold for their area for $25 and this will get them savings of 2 for 1 at local restaurants. The new book is just coming out.
I would send a nice bouquet of flowers and a hand written note telling them how happy you are for the upcoming nuptials. You may also want to send the wine glasses with a nice note telling them the first bottle of "legal" wine is on you..... Just a suggestion.
I think a restaurant gift card would be a great gift. I also think that just a card is fine. I really don't think it's that common to give an engagement gift. A card is more than most give.
I got engaged at 20 and some of my favorite engagement gifts were simple things, I got a few books My favorite that I give as a wedding gift for every wedding is The Five Love Languages. Also anything wedding planning is nice, they have great wedding planner momento books that allow you to save your plans in a scrapbook format. For friends that we know well and that are catholic we purchase them a weekend at Catholic Engaged Encounter. It's a great weekend getaway and a fantastic start to their marriage. Also your support that this is a good thing. 19 used to be a very common age to get married or engaged I find it incredibly sad that people don't think it will last. I've been happily married for 5 1/2 years, and I greatly respect those who supported our marriage and didn't tell us we were to young.
I was engaged at 18 and married at 19. We have now been married for 6 1/2 years, so just because they are young doesn't mean it won't last. IF you want to get them something go with sparkling cider. Our favorite was wildberry, but I haven't been able to find it lately. We don't drink, so that is what we usually get.
I was engaged at 19 and married at 20. We've been married for 12 years and I think we have a better marriage than a lot of couples. That point, aside, I think anything will be appreciated. I remember getting some flack for our decision to marry so young so someone celebrating with/for us was really nice.
