Hello,

I'm down to breastfeeding during the night and using formula for all other feedings. Formula is expensive!!! I'm using Enfamil Lipil w/ Iron. At my last Costco purchase the cashier told me the Kirkland brand is 'exactly' the same. I did some research and there are some differences. Is anyone out there using Kirkland brand and like it?

So What Happened?

I wanted to thank everyone for their feedback. I bought the Costco brand. I did notice the powder isn't as smooth as the Enfamil, but will get used to it.

Although they are all pretty similar in nutritional value, I HATED the way that all of the formulas created so many bubbles when you shake it. I felt like I was feeding my baby a gas-filled bubble bottle. The Enfamil still did bubble, but not nearly as much as Similac or the Kirkland brand.

Good Luck!!!

With my first son (now 16 mo.) I nursed him for 4 months until he went on strike (first with bottles then with only taking breast milk bottles and not formula). I started using the Enfamil Lipil w/ Iron then switched to Members Mark (Sams Club brand). The Members Mark had the same ingredients, the can was twice the size of Enfamil and was much cheaper. My son had no problems with the off brand. The only difference was the consistency. I'm now buying the Members Mark formula again with my second son. The sams club formula is less than $20.

FYI - Kirkland is the exact same formula as Similac. Costco has a licensing agreement with the manufacturers.

Sorry about being a little late on this, but I do know that you can save some money if you sign up for mailings. If you go to http://www.enfamil.com and then click on Programs and Offers. Then join the Enfamil Family Beginnings. There you can
receive free gifts, offers, and useful information for you and your family. I used to get coupons and it really helped me out. Good Luck!

With my first child, I only used enfamil. I bought it at Costco too because it was cheaper. As a new mom I felt there was no way I was using generic. But with my second child, I did use the Costco generic brand. It is a lot cheaper, and I really don't think there is that much difference. My sister in law is a nurse and she used generic with both her children. My son is in the 95th percentile for his height and 90th for his weight, (he is now 2 1/2 and not chubby). Very happy and healthy, he's only had two ear infections his whole life. Don't sweat it, kids drink formula, generic or otherwise, and grow up healthy. (I do commend you for breastfeeding, because I think breast is always best, but I stopped nursing after 5 months with both kids, and they turned out great)! I hope this helps ease your mind.

Most "store brand" formulas are pretty much the same. In fact they are only made by two different companies, PBM nutritionals, and Weyth. Right before my son was born the Today show did a story on Formula. The focus was on Targets new store brand of formual vs. Similac the consensus then was that the store brand was just a good for your baby & a lot cheaper.

HI L.!

I used the Kirkland brand, as well as other store brands for both of my children. They are way more cost effective, and according to my doctor, they are just as good (just make sure they have iron in them). Save yourself some money and use them! My kids are 4 and 20 months and they are fine.... Another tip...try the store brand diapers.

Try making your own formula. We tried the Kirkland brand but our daughter got horribly fussy on it.

Take rice milk (4 oz) and add .5 or 1 tablespoon of Flaxseed Oil and poke one gel caplet of DHA/ARA supplement. Drip the contents of the supplement into the bottle. We could only find this supplement in strawberry flavor and my daughter loved it.

If your daughter gets constipated use less flaxseed oil.

Good luck!!

I used both of these with my daughter and found the only real difference is consistency. The Enfamil was easier to work with, didn't clump as much and blended faster. But my baby drank them boh happily and never noticed when I switched. Generally speaking, formula is strictly regulated by the FDA and the cashier is right in a way -- there are basic elements that are the same across the board. Enfamil is one of the priciest for sure, so switching to the store brand will save you a lot of money, without harming your precious babe.

I hope I am not be condescending but your baby is 5 months!!! What is the rush to switch to formula? Your milk is way cheaper and WAY more nutritious than Kirkland or any other brand. No formula is as good as what you yourself has to offer. To share with you info on what another mother posted, your 2 or 2 1/2 yr. old should not have had any ear infections at all. On breastmilk its not nearly as likely unless the baby has a weaker immune system already. But for the average healthy child, there is no reason they should have them and breastfeeding combats that entirely. Please, for your baby and for the bond you say you still want with your child, reconsider the formula decision. Good luck with whatever you choose.

My pediatrician told me that Kirkland is the same as Similac and the one sold at Sam's is the same as Enfamil.

We've used the Kirkland for months and our daughter's been really happy and gaining weight like a moose!

L.,
I used this for my littlest guy, he was adopted at
7 weeks old , so no breastmilk.( He's 3 now)
I took the label to my pediatrican and he said it looked good to him, you might want to do that as well.
But he did well on it and I loved the price.
