Endometriosis/LupronDepot Shot

Hi Ladies,
I just had the Laproscopy done last Friday. The main reason of having it done was that I had fluid behind my Uterus. While in they drained the fluid, removed a cyst from my left ovary and some Endometriosis that I didn't know I had.
When in the doctors office yesterday. She said my Endometriosis was very minimul (I think it was in the same area as the fluid that was drained)
My doctor said she would like to start me on LupronDepot shots along with the birth control pill. The Lupron shot would lower my estrogen levels in my body and cause it to go through menopause for 6 months. I can also do the add-back therapy which would add back small levels of hormones. I talked with some women in my bunko group last night and one person had it done (when she couldn't get pregnant) and she said it is AWEFUL to have to go through.
My sister has Endometriosis bad and has the heavy bleeding and cramping (she has for many years) she has had Laproscopy done a few times and is only on the birth control pill to help with hers.
I'm not sure if I should go ahead with the shots or just try to birth control pill?
I've never had any heavy bleeding or cramping...but I know it can get worse over time. We never really know what's going to happen with our body.
My question to all of you is: Have you had the Lupron shots and if so, how bad was it?
Or, did some of you just choose to do birth contol pills?
I'd like to know all about it as my doctor would like me to start the shots next month.
Thanks for any information you can give!!! :)
PS- some of the side effects are hot flashes, bone density changes, vaginal dryness, depression/mood changes, and headaches (it can also lower your HDL good cholesterol and wheather this change increases your long-term risk of heart disease is not known.
I get migraines and after both kids I got the post partum depression which later turned into depression. I just got off of my depression meds. 4 months ago and I REALLY don't want to have to get back on them! :)
Part of me wants to do the Lupron shots while the other part of me just wants to do the birth control pill and see how it goes with the Endometriosis in the future.
Thanks for any feedback you can give me about this matter!!!! :)

What can I do next?

I had to do lupron (when trying to get pregnant with IVF) and no it's not fun. I guess I don't understand why your doc is wanting to "overkill" the whole thing if your endometriosis is "minimal." Is there another medical issue to do this? If there's not I would only do the birth control, see how it goes for awhile and if things are not better or getting worse, then do that. I have numerous cyst on one of my ovaries and one big one on my uterus and my doc told me (I can't take birth control) that only as a last ditch effort would they do the whole lupron thing. I too don't have that heavy of bleeding or pain, it's livable and so I said "no thank you for now", I'll do it only if I have too. Goodluck

I have had 2 lupron depot shots both for IVF treatments, followed up with daily lupron injections closer the the embroyo transfers. I have had absolutely no side effects from them. I was nervous also before the first one and nothing happened. I know everyone is different, but I just wanted to pass on some encouragement. I believe side effects are rare. I hope everything works out well for you and you continue to feel good!

You really NEED to hear more about how people have been able to deal with endometriosis through natural means (perhaps talk to a couple), with nutrition, through my company. Myself, I had terrible women's issues that left me in bed with labor-pain-like cramps for a couple days each month (and I had non-medicated labors ;) but the first month of these nutritional products, my symptoms were alleviated.
While it doesn't cure anything, it gives the body what it needs in order to start working like the way that it was created to...then the body is able to start making the correct portions of hormones and also heal itself.
Message me & I can do a quick overview to get you more info.

Hi T.. I was diagnosed with mild endometriosis several years ago, and they weren't able to remove it through surgery. My gyn. put me on birth control pills and I haven't had any pain since then. I'd say try the birth control first!

I had Lupron shots with each of the 3 IVF procedures I had and did not have any negative side effects. However, I feel that if you have all these concerns about possible side effects, why not try the birth control pills first. I had endometriosis as a possible link to my infertility issues. After the birth of my son, I was told that the pill would help keep it from returning. The depression sounds like an excruciating ordeal to go through. If you are thinking Lupron, ask the MD if you can stop it immediately if you feel symptoms coming on and switch. Good luck.

Hi T.! I would like to thank you for addressing this on Mamasource. I have recently undergone laporoscopic surgery for an ongoing complex ovarian cyst. There was also some endometriosis found, which I did not know, since I didn't have much pain. I have already had one ovary removed due to damage from a cyst, so I take this matter very serious in order to keep my remaining ovary. I have been offered to do birth control pills, but the hormones through me for a loop! Been there and done that! I have also been offered to do Lupron prior to my surgery which I opted out of due to the Menopause response. That makes me cautios. Whatever you decide, you have to have peace about it. There have been some women who don't handle the lupron very well. Keep doing your research. Pray about your decision. I wish you the best! Keep me posted.

I was diagnosed with SEVERE endometriosis in 2003 via a laperoscopy. Mine was so bad, they had to go back in a few months later and do a laperonomy (which is a 6 inch lower abdominal incision). After this surgery, I was put on these shots. It was no fun, I won't lie! For me, it did not help with the pain at all. This is not the case for everyone, but it was for me. I will not use birth control pills (2 reasons: 1 - we want to concieve and 2 - very dangerous long term side effects). So, I've used a natural progesterone cream ever since and, boy, does it help me!!!

Had I known about this, I'd have had the surgeries, but not done the Lupron. This is just me personally. If you want more information about this, private message me and we can chat.

The side effects of the Lupron are strong and some are long term. I wish I'd have considered that more at the time and educated myself about what ALL of the options were. I didn't.

I wish you well!!

Jenni

This all sounds pretty radical. I'm for simple gentle solutions. I found great relief in reading Dr John Lee's (a gynocologist) books: the first of which was entitled 'What your Doctor may not have Told You about Premenopause'(which actually starts at around 30) and it gave a very good foundational explaination on how the female system works and how it can be nurtured. I was amazed at the solution given for an imbalance known as'estrogen dominance'which causes all sorts of havoc to a woman's reproductive system. It's not that you produce more estrogen but you are progressively producing LESS progesterone which is the gentle soothing balancer for estrogen. He recommends natural progesterone and describes how you can help yourself. If I hadn't done the research myself along with great help and patience from my husband, I seriously might not be here to tell about how much I was helped with my problems. I'm not advocating going it completely alone but there are differing opinions in the medical field so perhaps you could find a physician that is more naturally minded. Or if you can't find better answers, do what I did and visit a good Health Food store and find Natural solutions which do not have side effects but are still very effective. Incidently, Natural Progesterone is a laboratory derivative of yams and as close to being identical to humanly produced progesterone as possible. Pray for wisdom as you educate yourself and look for the simple answers. Take your time and don't rush or be pressured into doing anything. Hope this helps.
