Hey ladies,
I have a question for you. How do you hard boil eggs, without them cracking? I am getting ready to boil eggs for my son to dye and I always have some that crack.
Thank you,
L.

I just had to respond with my fail proof egg boiling methond!! There are few things that I have perfected in my life, but being the designated deviled egg maker in my family for nearly every occassion, boiled eggs happen to be one of them!! Put the eggs in a pot of cold water, turn on high temp and bring to a boil. Set the timer for 3 minutes, and then turn off the stove, but leave the eggs in the pot on the burner for another 7 minutes (again, just set a timer:) Then I strain the eggs, fill the sink with ice water, and let them sit until cooled. I have been using this method for probably 5 years, and I have never had a problem. One suggestion is to use older eggs, rather than fresher, they tend to peel more easily! Good luck ~A.~

Gently place them into a pot of cold water. Enough water that it completely covers them. Add a pinch of salt. Boil on med. heat. I saw someone posted 10, I was always taught 15 is safe for hard-boiled. I do 15-20 minutes, then let sit until warm, drain and re-cover with cold and let cool. After dying, always place back into fridge until you need them.

I've always heard that you can add a little salt to the boiling water to keep them from cracking, though mine have never cracked when I cooked them from a COLD to Hard Boiled. This is what I've done: I start my eggs out in a cool pan, with cold water and put the eggs in, making sure the water is about 1 inch above the eggs. Again, make sure it is a cool pan and cold water from the tap. Then, I bring the water to a boil and immediately take it off the stove and cover for 20-22 minutes. Then, I carefully remove the eggs to cool down immediately and put into a bowl of iced water. Sometimes because they are very hot, I have to re-do this step twice. Then, I usually put the eggs, dried off in the refrigerator for a while to cool further (or sometimes the bowl of iced water with the eggs in the refrig. When you take them back out to dye & decorate, you'll need to let them come back to room temp a bit to get rid of the condensation. But don't leave them out long IF you plan on eating them or they will spoil. Shouldn't be out for longer than 1 hour after being cooked. Hope this helps. Many Blessings - L.

My mom taught me to start them in cold water with a little salt, bring them to a boil and set the timer for 10 minutes. At the end of 10 minutes, remove from the heat and change the hot water out for cold. Seems to work every time!

Don't boil them on high temp, try medium high instead.

I boil for 15 minutes exactly....and then I put them into a bowl of ice/water....then if you decide to eat them later, the yoke isn't that wierd gray color...it's a nice yellow.
