My son has severe eczema. I'm all out of ideas. All the doctors want to do is give him steroid creams, but I'm scared of the side effects with long term use. Please help.......

I have a friend who's little girl has it all over her body and she started using a certain cream on her little girl and it helped out a lot. I will get the name of it and send it to you in the next day or so.

My sister and nephew have "moderate" eczema. The creams are quite pricey.... She has tried Emu oil from herbalhealer.com. It has fabulous anti-inflammatory and mild antibacterial properties with good success(helps with the itching). I use it on my face and have seen a marked improvement.
Also, there's a company called Melaleuca at maleleuca.com. They have a wide variety of all natural products. RENEW lotion might be of interest --- they boast great sucess with eczema. We like it for dry cracked hands. It contains TEA TREE OIL which has been used forever for many things --- I won't bore you --- just read it for yourself.....

Hope something helps!

P.S. Children with excema are more likely to have allergies --- which can make the eczema worse. GOOGLE eczema and Herbal Healer has some good info.

I work in pediatric unit. We usually advice people for using steroid (hydrocorticosteroid) to infant/toddler topically (on skin). My advice is: use it sparingly, and only while severe and itching. During mild condition, please just use baby-cream (cetaphil is good, sorry to mention brand). Thanks

Have heard that "Vanicream" works well.
Also, make sure that he doesn't have any allergies that you don't know about. This could be his allergic response. Hope he gets better soon.

Hello, I have eczema on my hands. My dermatologist gave me large doses of tagamet to help remove a large wart on a finger. After 30 days the eczema on my hands was gone! My Dr. ok'd this to use. I take 3 200mgs daily, no eczema. It tricks the immune system. ASK A DERMATOLOGIST FIRST, it may not be good for use in children.Over the counter same as prescription tagamet. Good Luck, M. Boynton

You might want to take him to an allergist. At 29 I begun to suffer from eczma and the dermatologist put me on cortizone for over a year. I gained 20 plus pounds! It was only in South Africa last December that I had another severe outbreak and the doctor suggested it was a food allergy. Since eliminating these food allergies, I have only had mild break outs on my face when something has slipped by. He probably has a food allergy to one of the top five things...milk, wheat, nuts, fish or pork. I was also allergic to dust, grass, squash and mold. It's worth a shot to try it. There is a ton of info on line and how these food intolerances can cause eczma.

Hope this helps.
