Hi Moms

I know many of you have kids with eczema and am looking for your tips for dealing with the rash. My youngest son is 7 months old and just last Thursday broke out with a rash on his back and belly that has spread upward and downward. My pediatrician said it is definately eczema and I have to make an appointment with a dermatologist. We have been using Cetaphil twice a day with no results so far. I just don't know what else to do for him in the mean time. He only gets a bath twice a week unless he is really dirty or has a blowout type issue. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Mom's

The same thing happened with my 18 month old a few months ago.
We put on the Hydrocortizone 1% twice a day and on top of that vaseline until the rash got better. After that twice a day we practicslly coat her with vaseline. Also limit the baths to twice a week or if it's really needed.
This is the only thing that works until the more humid weeks of summer come.

My son has always had eczema. After a round of perscription steroid cream to get it under control I use Aquaphor after each bath. He still has some "hot spots" behind his knees and on his wrists. I hit them with the steroid cream every once in a while. But Aquaphor is much better than Cetaphil in my humble opinion. Granted he feels like an oil slick, but he's not itchy!

My son's pedi & allergist both recommended an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream. I usually use it when it gets bad & then just regular lotion when it's not too bad. You can always get prescription cream, but the OTC hydrocortisone is an option without having to get a prescription.

Eczema is usually linked with having allergies. Part of it could be the animals, the laundry soap used on the child when you wash his clothes. His skin may be very sensitive.Make an appointment right away with the dermatologist so they can prescribe a non sterodial cream for the eczema. Over the counter there are some creams out their for babies and eczema. I do not remember the names of them but look at some of the bigger retailers such as walmart. If the creams do not provide some relief to your child after you seem the dermatologist then you will have to have some allergy tests run to see if their are allergies to animals or foods. I have eczema which comes out from cleaning chemicals and I have a nephew who had it when he was a baby and so did my neice to a certain degree.
