Searching for something to help my son with his eczema. He also has something called Intertigo on his neck...he's always scratching and it doesn't seem to heal. During the summer his eczema is really bad at his elbows, crook of arms, knees and crook of knees. He also gets rough patches all over.

Want to try something different, found these items. Can you offer any suggestions or info on the following?
1. Neem oil or lotions http://www.shop.organicindia.com/Neem-Formula-pr-23.html?...

2. Freederm http://www.freederm.com/

Hope these links come through. TIA!

I tried Freederm and did not like it. We battled with my son's eczema and tried everything. We saw several doctors. Finally we found Dr. Robin Carder. She prescribed meds that cleared up his eczema in about a week. Based on my experience, I would recommend you go straight to a pediatric dermatologist like Dr. Carder. Now my son gets occasional outbreaks, but we use the meds that Dr. Carder prescribed and he is fine. I feel like we wasted so much time and suffering going to doctors and trying products. One visit to Dr. Carder was all it took to solve the problem!
Best of Luck,
D.

My son has excema, too. Here's what we do:

1. Winter weather seems to trigger my son's. We put a humidifier in his room.

2. Elidel--perscription from ped doc.

3. Aquafor/Eucerin--use after elidel after bath every night.

4. We're also using body butter after elidel after bath sometimes when it gets really bad. I buy it Bath and Body Works.

My son has severe eczema. His pediatric allergist prescribed a steroid ointment that the pharmacy blends with an antibiotic ointment. He would scratch so bad that he would bleed. He also has Hydroxyzine liquid RX to take before bedtime when it is flared up and bothering him. This has all helped.

One thing that you may need to consider, your son may have food allergies. Eczema is a sign of food allergies. Once my son was diagnosed and we avoided the foods, things improved. He is not cured from his eczema by any means (he has many other irritant factors), but he has helped.

I used Neem oil on my roses for rose mites and it worked well. It has a ton of uses. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neem_oil for more info on it's uses.

My son had eczema as a child too, and the topical steroid treatments, oatmeal baths and keeping him dry and not sweaty were the only things that worked, but I didn't know about Neem oil then or I might have tried it.

I have mild cases of eczema from time to time and started taking fish oil supplements in the maximum strength dosage. It has shown a great improvement overall and haven't had a serious case in sometime. It's worth a shot!

I use over-the-counter Cortizone-10, the ointment (the one with petroleum jelly in it, not the cream), and it helps a lot with my baby's eczema. Depending on how bad the outbreak is, I use it on him twice a day, or use it only at night and use Aveeno Baby moisturizing cream at other times, which is thicker than regular lotions. I also lotionize his entire body right after his bath, which helps to keep the moisture in his skin.

My daughter also has eczema and had intertrigo last winter when she was an infant. She, too, would scratch and wasn't even four months old :( The intertrigo was triggered by a long car ride (compounded by the fact that her skin is so sensitive). We drove overnight while she slept and unfortunately, we didn't realize that her poor little neck was getting sweaty while she was sleeping. It eventually cleared up with a steroid the dermatologist prescribed and by keeping the area dry and moisturized (I know...sounds like an oxymoron). I made sure to dry the area well, not let her get too hot, cleanse with Cetaphil and moisturize with Cetaphil lotion (not the cream - too thick and heavy). I also wrapped the car seat straps so they wouldn't be directly on her neck. They also recommended that I wipe her neck down with a chilled, damp cloth to keep it cool, making sure to blot it dry after. We had another trip coming and didn't want this to happen again.

All that helped, but the right steroid is what actually cleared it up. OF COURSE, we all want to avoid steroids, but sometimes it is necessary in the short term...then we just have to do our best to prevent an outbreak from then on. I'm very glad we went to the pediatric dermatologist since we had no idea it was intertrigo and not eczema.

I hope you find something that works for your little ones.

My son has had pretty severe eczema since he was born and his doctor prescribed Locoid Lipocream (hydrocortisone butyrate 0.1%) We apply as needed and the bad patches are usually gone after a couple treatments. It has always worked great so you may ask you childs doctor about it. I also have found that Aveeno lotion with the natural coiloidal oatmeal works great on keeping his skin moisturized and it does not irritate his skin. Since I started using it he has had alot less eczema breakouts. Hope you can use some of this info.
