Hello! Our 13 month old daughter seems to have eczema. It's on the back of her neck, hands and behind one of her knees. I have been putting vaseline and burt's bees oil on it, and I guess it seems to help a bit... any other suggestions from "the experts"? Thank you in advance!

Hi Z.!!

Renew lotion from Melaleuca is the best stuff!!! It is strong enough for eczema, yet gentle enough for babies diaper rashes. I have horrible feet from wearing flip flops in the summer. I've tried everything!! The Renew is the seriously the best. And they advertise that it is great for eczema. You do have to sign up to a customer. If you're interested, let me know.

I agree with the person who said Renew lotion from Melaleuca. This product is unbelievable. My father has had excema for 20 years and the doctors would prescribe everything from amlactin to steroids. Nothing would clear it up. We switched to the Renew lotion and it is gone!! Amazing!! My daughter(18mo) developed the worst daiper rash I had ever seen...Too much juice. We tried A&D ointment, Desitin, and nothing could clear it up. I tried the Renew, and it was completely gone in 1 1/2 days. The other necessary change with excema is laundry soap, dryer sheets, shampoo, and body soap. Anything that touches their skin (i.e. clothes, towels, sheets) needs to be sensitive and non-toxic. With this in mind we switched out to Melapower, Melasoft, Gold Bar Soap, and the hair products. Ironically, we save more shopping wholesale with Melaleuca because we are not impulse buying at Target every month. We have been using these products for a year now, and we will never change. We have completely switched out all the products in our home, and we are totally non-toxic now. The other amazing thing is, I referred 8 of my friends and family, and the company fits the bill for my products every month. Especially now that money is tight for most people, I love that I don't have that other financial burden anymore. Sorry to ramble. When you are passionate about something it is hard to stop talking!! If you would like more information on the products you can research them at www.saferforyourhome.com. Otherwise I can answer any additional questions for you at www.livetotalwellness.com/wyn. Good Luck!!

Before we got to an allergist, we used Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream and Baby Wash. They were great, although not so much for a severe case. They helped, but never cleared it up. I still use the cream for a lot, diaper rash, slobber rash, etc. Anything that you would use Aquaphor for, but it works better and doesn't sting. We finally got to an allergist at National Jewish Hospital, and he recommended not fabric softener, only unscented laundry detergents, and an extra rinse for laundry. For the kid it was nightly baths, just before bed, for 10-15 minutes, using Ivory or Dove (unscented) at the very end. Towel dry and then use Vanicream. Vanicream can be used as often during the day as you want. You usually have to ask for it at the pharmacy, but any compounding pharmacy carries it, and all Target pharmacies. Since doing this routine, we have not had to use any steroids or cortisones except when visiting family with pets. Even if the eczema acts up again, one or two baths takes care of it. You can do more than one bath, too if you need. Now that he's five, we do baths a couple of times a week with no problems. GL! I hope she feels better soon! P.S. I love Burt's Bees stuff, but they reeked havoc on our son's skin. Vaseline never helped him at all.

There is a mineral lake in Washington called Soap Lake, and there is a soap you can buy made from that lake that cures eczema. No joke. My grandma has lived there for 60 years, and has told me people come from all over the globe to cure their skin issues. The Inn at Soap Lake sells the soap, their number is (800) 557-8514. Here's a link to their website, so you can read more about it.

Hi Z., my 3 yr old suffers from flareups mainly from dry skin and baths.. We switched to Aveeno baby wash and followed up with Aveeno cream while she is still sort of wet after the bath. The Cetaphil cream didn't work so well for us but may for you. Stay away from soaps at bath time. Stick to Dove, Cetaphil wash, Aveeno wash, etc as these do not contain soap. Always follow up with creme, not lotion (we found that out the hard way). If this regimen doesn't help within a week switch laundry detergent. Wash your child's clothes separately with hot water to rule out the detergent aggravating the eczema. Good luck to you! p.s., I like the Aquaphor to help clear up flare ups also!

Lot's of good suggestions for topical stuff. I would also suggest you try to get her to take flax seeds or flax seed oil. It can do a lot internally to help the problem. If you use the seeds, you're supposed to grind them (such as with a coffee grinder) before sprinkling them on cereal or whatever. The oil can smell a little fishy, but they do make flavors. I like to buy lemon flavored and add it to a smoothy made from lemon yogurt, blueberries and banana. It's delicious, and you can't taste (or feel) the oil at all. I use frozen blueberries, and use milk to thin it down. Or leave it thick and spoon feed her. You can experiment with how much of what you add. Good luck!

Try California Baby Super Sensitive hair & body wash (tear free & hypoallergenic - good for eczema per their website), and California Baby Calendula Cream. I also used Mustela eczema products, but changed to California Baby because it's all organic...no "bad" chemicals. CA Baby has everything & it seemed to help. Check out their website. Good luck!

This could just be dry skin, but it could be more serious - I would take her to the dr to be sure. My daughter does have eczema and the dr has us cover her with Eucerin cream before bed under her PJs - really cover her with a thick layer - and let it soak in overnight. It really works.

Cetaphil in a TUB, not a pump is what our pediatrician recommended. Also, try Aquaphor, Eucerin, and hydrocortizone is ok too. If it gets worse or stays the same and is just too annoying, get a prescription from your pediatrician.
