Water, exercise, good sleep, thats good that he has lost weight it is so different than us women loosing weight we just hold it on
I wanna brag on my hubby real quick. He has lost 13 lbs in 4 weeks!!! :) I'm so proud of him! His goal is a total of 60 lbs lost. He's off to a great start.
No drastic changes. He's having a breakfast shake and eating fruit during the day. We both stopped drinking soda. And I've focused on making healthier meals. I substitute ground turkey where I would normally use ground beef. And then just a whole lot more chicken and turkey in general. Plus more veggies and less pasta. We also don't eat out. The one day a week that we do we just grab subway.
Any other suggestions to get him to his goal? Feel free to share stories of what worked for you or someone you know.
Thanks!

Good for him! That's awesome!
Be sure to drink plenty of water during the day. Keeps you hydrated and
flushes out the body.
Incorporate veggies w/dinner.
Maybe make one night or two a meatless dinner.
Exercise is key. If he's not working out yet, he can start by taking family
walks together weather permitting. Then graduated to other exercise.
This is when a gym comes in handy esp in inclement weather.
Be sure his breakfast shake is low in fat & high in protein.
Limit bread then make sure it's whole wheat.
Moderation and balance are key.
If you do eat pasta, try whole wheat.
Great job!
My only suggestion is to make sure you do treat yourself 1-2x/week, so that you don't burn out and fall off the bandwagon.
It's OK to have those treat meals. Just keep them to around 1500 calories PER MEAL. Then you won't sabotage your work.
Have that pizza or burger...or do go out to dinner.
Just in moderation.
Congratulations on your progress!!!
I saw my doctor at the beginning of Dec and began a weight loss plan.
I didn't realize they have to do an EKG on you these days to check your heart health before you start.
1200 calories per day (I can have absolutely anything as long as I don't go over my limit)
keep a food diary (My Fitness Pal works great).
Drink 8 cups of water a day
I'm down 16 lbs so far but I've got a long way to go.
We're doing more vegetables and beans and trying to do a little less meat.
I'm working on increasing my walking.
Is he exercising at all? If he can take a walk at lunchtime or something like that, that'll help as well. Portion size is alway important.
I second MyFitness Pal App and online. Free! Track calories, weight loss, exercise etc. Sounds like your hubby is off to a great start. Like Lilpiggietoes said, Water, Exercise and good sleep too. I am trying to lose 40 lbs and my hubby 20. (I am 5 ft 2 starting weight 170), want to get back to 130). I started using the app a week ago and it is great at tracking everything and there is an awesome database full of name brand food 7 generic or add your own. Also what is great is that you can add friends just like on facebook and motivate each other. I started with 30 mins of cardio 5 days last week, along with eating healthier...lots of fresh veggies and fruit, lean meats/protein, no sodas etc. However I am still drinking my morning coffee. I have lost 3.5 lbs in a week and hubby has lost 6. I have been eating 1200 calories per day and drinking 8-12 cups of water a day too. And I have such a boost of energy even after the first week. We aren't dieting, we are making a lifestyle change. Take it off and keep it off. I am Keep supporting him like you are and keeping the healthy stuff in the house and the junk out that way there less temptation. Having a supportive spouse can make a huge difference. Tell him to keep up the good work!
Other than fruit, I cut all carbs out of my diet. I do not eat pasta, rice or bread any more. Obviously no pretzels, crackers, pizza or junk food either. I like being thin so much more than I like the taste of these foods:)
I eat/drink protein shakes, nuts and even bacon. For something sweet I eat strawberries with home made whipped cream using Splenda.
We have always done weight watchers.. Why? Because you don't cut anything out of your diet. You can eat everything in moderation. They focus on the foods that will fill you up, so you don;t feel like you are on a diet. You are just eating more rounded.
Recently I had to go to a gluetn free diet for my 4 year old. So at home dinner is GF. With out doing anything.. I have lost almost 10 lbs. I also noticed that when I do eat glutned foods, I have a harder time focusing, so I stay away from that as much as I can all the time now.
Eating in is great, learn how to make the "crave" foods at home. They will be 1/2 the calories as restaurants and 1/2 the sodium.
Good luck
Awesome!!!
I heard you never want to go completely fat free.
No salt added food.
As little processed food as possible.
I would go with fresh veggies.
Exercise! If he isn't exercising add in at least 30 minutes a day.
Protein! Eating protein after a workout builds muscle and helps him to lose fat.
Protein Shakes and bars. I sell Shaklee. We have top of the line products. Msg me if you would like a link to se some of those products.
Snacks! Tell your husband to try and space meals 4-6 hours apart. It's okay to have a little snack during the day, a couple of hours either side of the meal, as long as he includes protein and keeps it low calorically. The protein will help him feel sated so he won't be hungry. The snack will keep him from binging.
Don't drink diet drinks. Choose a healthy tea instead for another "snack."
Portions! This is very important. Learn about how many calories, protein, fat are in what you are eating. For example, a normal portion of meat should be no bigger than a deck of cards or a computer mouse!
Congrats to your husband and good luck meeting that goal!
First, make this a lifestyle change -- not just a diet. Great job making the changes you've made so far!!! Keep it up!!! I'd recommend making sure you both are happy & comfortable with your changes before adding on. But if you're ready...add some exercise! :) Even just a little bit, consistently each day will make a huge difference. Start with 10 pushups & 10 situps each morning or evening. Maybe add in 15 minutes of cardio (walking?) every day. Just make changes gradually to ensure a routine that you are happy with. That's the best way to make it a part of your life, rather than just a phase.
Great effort, you two!!!
