My little guy, who turns one today, had tubes put in both ears two days ago. He seems to be doing really well, however after we put his ear drops in tonight he was hysterical and refused his bottle. Is this normal? do the drops burn? He drank all his bottles yesterday and the day of his surgery. Any advice from moms whose little angels have ear tubes too. Thank you.

What can I do next?

I agree had tubes understand...they are too cold..ok this is how I got mine warm with having to worry if they got to hot from running the bottle under warm water...and don't laugh..well at least not much. I put them under my boob...ok laugh body heat warmed them up to perfect temp I could quickly get them out from under there which my bra held them in anyway but I may have not needed a bra but still the point is body heat I don't have time to run around and my son see them so they go...under the boob.
Hope you had a laugh but it works. If that's not if it could be the feeling but you may want him looked at to be safe.

Hi there! Both of my kids have gone through tubes in their ears, in fact they both still have them in and the last set was placed 5 years ago. Try warming the ear drops in your hands. Place the bottle in your hands and rub them together. That might help with that. Also, give your son some children's tylenol or children's motrin to help with discomfort. Also, if he keeps doing that, talk to his Doctor. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE LITTLE GUY. I hope I was able to help.

Hi, I am sorry that your son has to go through this. 2 of my children have had tubes several times and I too remember the unbelievable pain from earaches and then 4 sets of tubes in my ears.

The other replies I think my have hit on the problem. If the drops are too cold they will even cause your child get pain and possibly even to get sick at his stomach. Try to make sure they are warm but NOT hot. If this does not work then take him back to the doctor right away. The ears are nothing to mess with. I wish your little person the best!

did you try to warm them first? It may have been cold, I know that bothered my son. I am also recommending you the Ear Bandit (order online or ask your doctor about it) if your son will be in water this summer, worked great for my guy! If he wears it with ear plugs, it forms a barrier that keeps water out and he can get his ears wet without worry!

My daughter just had tubes put in about 2 months ago and from everything that I was told and from watching her, the drops don't burn when they go in. The doc did say that some kids have problems because they don't like to have the drops put in their ears and to be held down while it's done so maybe that is why he is so upset about it. I would call the doc that put the tubes in and ask him. Even if it is normal, you'll feel reassured talking to him and hearing this and if it's not, then you can get seen and correct any problems early.
