HI mamas.. my daughter got tubes put in this morning.. for those of you who have been through this, what types of things happened after surgery? Ex: How did you guys know the tubes helped? She is my first child and so i'm not really sure what I should look for before her follow up in 3 weeks to be able to tell the dr.

Thanks :)

What can I do next?

Im not gunna be much help cause it been over 9 years since my daughter went throught that, but the main thing i do remember, was after it was all said and done, i was so happy to find that the tubes helped, cause with out them my daughter would have gone deaf to all the ear infections she had been getting. when they told me that her hearing had improved from what had been a 70% loss to a 30% i was the happiest mother. her hearing has since improved over the years. she is 11 now and can hear you rooms away lol gotta love preteens

These Mamas have given great suggestions! My son is on his second set of ear tubes or is it his third? Not quite sure! I think second! Anyway... I found them when the fell out and one was basically out so the dr grabbed it. Whenever has has his ears examined I ask if they can see his ear tubes just to know if they are still in or not. He sees a lot of Drs. so they get a peek quite a bit. :-)

Like the other Mamas, my son's problem was speech delays... I felt like the tubes were amazing in helping him hear. And they say that balance is also affected by clogged ears.

Good luck!!!

With my son, he had a ton of fluid so there were immediate changes. He could hear a lot better, he stopped complaining of his ears and head hurting (from the pressure of all the fluid). He also started sleeping a lot better, due to less pressure when he laid down so he was able to sleep better and longer stretches of time.

My son was 3 so his speech wasn't really affected, but if you daughter is younger, you might also notice that she is talking more clearly.

My 2 year old daughter got hers in on Oct. 17th. She was fussy and crying the whole ride home from the anesthesia, but as soon as we got home she took a long nap and after that she was completely fine. I noticed over the next week that she started talking so much more than before. So far she has had no ear infections, even after the last little cold she had.

I am pretty sure that the tubes will help. My mother told me that my pedi wanted to have tubes put in my ear as a child due to all the complications I had with constant ear infections and etc, but she opted not to do so. As an adult, I still have many complications with my ears to include infections, hard time hearing, and constant sinue issue.... So I think that getting the tubes has to help...

My son,who is now 15,had tubes put in his ears when he was about 3. He walked around screaming for week since he was so happy he could hear. He was screaming in happiness. He had fluid behind both eardrums. His speech was delayed since he couldn't hear well. Ask the doctor about what you can expect to happen. The tubes should fall out on their own,but I can't remember how long that is supposed to take.

I noticed less ear aches. Less infection. Better hearing and recognition of words (my son's ears were so bad). and when an infection occured, leaking out of the tube.

Well, Immediately, as in right when she woke up she was a little terrified becasue she was literally deaf before!! So o fcourse I noticed changes with communication, and as time went on I notivced less colds and overall her health got better. just keep putting the drops and give her tylenol if she seems a little fussy. they snap out of it pretty quick!! Watch any discharge, it is normal, and just call the doc if your worried!!!
