Ear Piercing - Wellston,OK

my daughter is 7 has her ears pierced, and they were ALMOST healed. i clean them 2-3x a day. i went to clean her ears for her last night and her lobe was all pussy and infected, took the earring out, got most the puss out, had to put in a pair of my ear rings to keep a stud in there over night without smashing her ear lobe. i'm allergic to anything BUT sterling silver or surgical steel. this is the 3rd time her ears have been pierced so i'm thinking she's allergic to the posts?

my mom suggested peroxide, neosporin, and bandaid until they are healed and daily switching out the posts to sterilize the posts...not sure what i'm doing wrong. she doesn't get help at her dad's house, but only goes over there every other weekend and i clean her ears for her when she's home, i have her put a towel on her shoulder and just pour the claire's solution front and back, push her ear rings back and forth on her ear lobe, and pat her dry AROUND her ear but not on the ear lobe.

we're going tonight to get a different set of ear rings (maybe a small hoop that has plenty of 'breathing' room). i was told by a cosmotoligist, surgical steel, or titanium for her earrings...any suggestions? i REALLY want this to be a success for her cause if not, no more til she's 18

What can I do next?

First- don't use peroxide. It kills off the new cells that are growing and can cause scarring.
Second, If you have allgergies she probably does too, but not necessaraly to the same things. The suggestion for sugical steel or titanium is a good one, also if you trust her- 24k gold (my mom is allegic to nickel which is used as a filler in most jewelry- it's 24k or platnum for her)
Hoops this early in the healing process will cause the hole to heal curved which can be painful if she switches to straight posts later.
She is old enought to learn to clean them herself when she is at her fathers house, if she complains tell her her other choice is to take them out completely and let them heal (which might not be a bad choice anyway)
I got my first holes when I was five, two of my daughter before they were two (young enough to forget about them and let the heal) I have had a few percings that wouldn't heal, and one that I had to let close up after 5 years because of a sudden sensitivity to the jewelry that had been in it the whole time.

Please DON'T use any kind of hoop earrings on her at her age - unfortunately too many little girls have ended up with TORN ear lobes cos some ignorant little kid tugged on the hoop and tore it out! Both my daughter and I are allergic to any earring that isn't real gold (NO surgical steel, titanium, silver or any "plated" ones will do). After all the trauma your poor child has already endured, I'd really leave her ears to heal until she's older - and there's no guarantee it will work then either! That's why you can still buy clip-on earrings - some of us just reject the other kind! My daughter is 14 years old and (also after several failed attempts) has decided to give up on pierced ears. So have I! I'm sorry if this isn't the answer you were hoping for, but at least now you know you're not alone! :)

do not put peroxide or neosporin on her ears! i apprenticed for professional piercer when i was younger, neosporin is used to heal holes, not to keep them open. ive seen alot of little girls get infections from claires and walmart when they did them because they are not properly trained in bloodborne pathogens. Watch for knots to show up on the back of her ears, on the exit part of the piercing. you may need to cosult with a professional piercer, they would know alot about this.
i also had the same problem when i was younger with earings. i had to wear my moms real diamond earings because thats the only thing that my ear wouldnt reject until they were completely healed.

Our daughter is very allergic to metals (gold, silver plate, sterling silver, ....). We've tried twice to have her ears pierced and the last time her ear lobe was so swollen in just a few hours that we were worried that we couldn't get the earring off without a trip to the ER. My sister has the same problem and got her lobes so infected trying to wear earrings one time that it actually did take a trip to the ER. The glands under her chin swoll up very badly and my parents thought she had something like the mumps. Took antibiotics to get the infection out of her system. Very serious. It's no big deal if her ears can't be pierced. What is important is that she is healthy. I would strongly recommend while you are getting these early warning signs ... LISTEN TO THEM and pull the earrings out asap. Try again in a bunch of years maybe, but in the meantime, she has an allergic reaction and we wouldn't continue to feed our children a certain food just because we like it if they were having an allergic reaction ... treat this the same.

I can only wear 14k+gold or sterling silver, anything else and my ear bleed (and I got mine pierced when I was 10--23 years ago). My dd is similar, but has had good luck with MOST nickle free stuff. I second the neosporin if there was puss, when mine or dd's are irritated I coat the post in neosporin and then push it through. Adult earrings will give more room for them to breathe because the post is longer and doesn't squish the ear lobe on a child like the children's can (this is particularly true if your child is over 5) she should be able to take some solution and put it on a q-tip and clean her ears by herself at her dads.

Maybe but her a pair of real Gold earrings? My sister had the same problems as a kid...turns out she was allergic to everything besides Gold....might be worth a shot?

Don't use peroxide, only saline or sea salt solution should be used. When my cartilage piercing was not healing I thought that it needed to breath so I got a horseshoe made of surgical steel from the piercing shop (some walmarts also carry, and clairs has a small supply here as well). This allowed for the wound to breath, and it helped a great deal. I still have issues if I do not change my earrings on a regular basis, but now that I can remove them at night things are way better.

The same thing happened with my daughter. Turns out that she's allergic to nickel. Nickel is used in a lot of jewelry because it's a cheap, soft metal. Look for earrings that are labeled "Nickel-free." You can find them pretty much anywhere jewelry is sold, including big box stores like Wal-mart and Target, and they're reasonably priced.

I thought I was the only one with this allergy!!! Everybody thinks I'm nuts and they think i mean the opposite, but no, I can only wear sterling silver or stainless/surgical steel. Get her some 16 gauge captive bead hoops. They are surgical steel and once you get the bead in there (snaps in) she won't be able to get it out (takes a lot of pressure). Worked awesomely for me! Also, try Bactine...has a numbing agent in it and cools nicely. Doesn't burn.

Also, you might find a couple of retainers...plastic flesh toned posts to keep the hole but leave the appearance of no earring (for work and such). No metal at all!! Might have to go to a tattoo/piercing parlor to get the proper stuff.

I know I can only wear 14k white or yellow gold earrings. Anything else and my ears do exactly what your daughters ears did. Now that I am grown I sometimes choose to wear "fake" earrings even though I know the consequences. After 3-4 hours with them in my ears hurt and if I wear them all day it takes up to two days for my ears to heal. She may just need a really nice pair of earrings that she can wear all the time. I ended up getting my first pair of diamod studs about her age and I wore them everyday. Good luck!

This may sound odd to you, but my MIL is allergic to just about everything as well. When she was 16 and had her ears pierced she used a piece of string until the holes healed and then was able to put in sterling silver posts. I'm sure it'll look odd, but might be less painful and heal quicker. Just a thought. Perhaps you could braid several strands of string to make it thicker.
