My 14 year old wants to try again and get her ear's pierced. We have tried Claires twice now an both times her ears did not take the piercing. Is there any other place to take girls to get their ears pierced like Nordstroms....help she wants them done today of course.

What can I do next?

My daughters' ped. pierced their ears, of course it is a lot more expensive than Claires.

You can try taking her to a professional piercing/tattoo business. They don't use guns, they use a needle and it's completely sterile.

I've heard many people take their girls to their pediatrician.

she may be allergic to gold. I had mine pierced at 13 and was allergic to them and had to take them out early, then they would close up and repierced the thin layer that closed up several times and still can't stand to wear earrings over a few hours so I just don't bother anymore. I haven't tried silver ones yet but someone suggested for me to try using real silver instead of gold ones.

What do you mean by "her ears did not take the piercing?" The piercing wouldn't go through or the holes closed up? I've heard you can go to your pediatrician to have them done but I am not sure about that. I keep meaning to check into that. I'd like to know myself because my daughter had hers done at Claire's also and they put one of them too high. She has really thick earlobes and we have a hard time finding earrings with long enough posts.

Hi B.,
I would call a local hair salon, not a cookie cutter place, but an actual salon. I have a Cosmetology License in Kansas, and for a while the were trying to regulate ear piercing so that it could only be done by licensed professionals. I just took the test for my renewal and did not see anything about ear piercing or tattoos in the test book this time so they must have given up on trying to regulate these practices, however, I would trust them more. It would also help to know what you mean by did not take the piercing. Did the stud not go through? Did they get infected? I might be able to give you more help if I had more info on the problem. Most places have exactly the same guns and studs, so it doesn't really matter where you go it is just about how comfortable the person doing the piercing is, if the are not comfortable with it, it can cause problems. Did she take the earrings out too soon? I would really like to know what you mean by it didn't take. The only reason I would consider getting it done at Nordstrom's is if they happen to use real gold piercing studs, but I would ask because most places use stainless steel, which I happen to be allergic to. So ask what the earings are made of, ask if the person is comfortable piercing ears, and have they done it very many times. I have only done my own and my brother's, but it is something that would not bother me to do, but knowing you are going to hurt someone, is a lot of pressure to some people, which doesn't make for a very steady hand, and you need a steady hand to pierce properly. Tattoo shops are another option, they have professional piercers, I know in Missouri the piercers have to have so many hours of apprentice time before they can practice, OK I just went to the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology website http://www.kansas.gov/kboc/ and the do regulate tanning salons, body piercing, and tattoo artists. So I would look into that personally, and I recommend surgical steel not stainless. Missouri does regulate body piercing and tattooing as well. Ear piercing is not regulated in either state. I checked the regulations. I would still go with licensed and regulated over not if it was me. Good luck feel free to send me a personal message if you have any questions I didn't cover. Hope this helps.

we took our daughter to the Piercing Pagoda in the center of Oak Park Mall on the bottom floor by Hallmark. They did great and we have not had any problems with them.
Best of Luck!
