e-Holiday Cards?

A recent request brought up my own question - what do people think about e-Holiday Cards? I've never sent holiday cards, but enjoy reading other peoples/seeing their kids, and I think people would like to see pics of my little one and hear the news now that I have a baby. I know I won't pull it together to do a snail mailing, but could imagine doing an email version.

Question - do people think an e-card is tacky and shows lack of effort, or a natural progression of the holiday card concept? Remember, it isn't a choice between an e-Card and a paper card, but between an e-Card and nothing.

What can I do next?

I think that if you were going from a paper card to an ecard, it might be a little tacky, but if you don't normally send cards, it might be okay. People would enjoy seeing your family, and they might be excited that your doing it! Just keep in mind that there are still some people who still don't have email or don't check it often. I think if I received an ecard from someone who I never got anything from before, I would just be excited to get it.

I'd like to put in a vote for yes, ecards are okay. I usually don't do it for my husband's relatives b/c they like to send cards for all holidays, like Easter, etc. but for everyone else yes. This is a good time with the economy and environment, so I blame it on that in some light-hearted way. People don't usually keep them, but they do like to hang them up sometimes. If you don't mind that yours won't be hung up then it's okay. Not sure how many people hang the cards these days. I do admit they are slightly less exciting, but I also never realized how much you save!

I think you should go for it. I am considering the same option as I am not a card sender either. People need to have an open mind for technology these days. We as busy parents need to consider any time saving option and others should respect that. I was going to try to do a video card with www.animoto.com
Enjoy the holidays!

I know that I am a little late in responding, but I just couldnt help it. Here are my thoughts:

1. E-cards are perfectly acceptable. They are environmentally friendly and a quick and economical way to keep in touch.
2. Several years ago, the stress of the holidays got to me and SOMETHING had to go. I chose holiday cards. If I want to keep in touch, and vice versa, then I will, but there is just TOO much going on during holiday time. The stress of having to do a card was making it a chore, and it should be something I wanted to do, not something I HAD to do.
3. If people love you, and are happy to hear from you, then any method should be acceptable. This is a technological age and as nice as cards are to receive, anyone who thinks that they e cards are "tacky" must have LOTS of time on their hands and $$ to send paper cards! Dont worry about what others think. You know that everyone will have an opinion and some will like it, some will not. Do what YOU want to do and remember the true spirit of the holiday season. If keeping in touch is your goal, who cares if you do it electronically, via snail mail, or by carrier pigeon!! It is the fact that you DO it that is important. Happy Holidays!
