Dyson Vs. Oreck - Rockwall,TX

Is the Dyson or the Oreck better? I have a hoover windtunnel and hate it. I would like to get a new vacuum soon. I heard that the Orecks are lighter, but other than that just as good as a Dyson. I don't know anyone who has a Dyson, but do have Orecks. We have a dog so we were thinking about getting the animal Dyson.

What can I do next?

I researched this when I needed a new vaccuum and I chose the Dyson over the Oreck as the Oreck was not reccommended for high pile carpet - I have thick Berber Frisee in most of my house... I LOVE my Dyson - it performs really well - it sucks up dirt and hair super well!!

I have a Dyson and my mom has the top of the line Oreck. I really like them both. The Oreck is really light and the Dyson is heavier. The only thing I don't like about the Oreck is that it doesn't have the cleaning tools attached to it. So if you use those a lot then I would rethink the Oreck.

My mom, sister and I all have Dysons (I had mine first). We all love them!! My brother came to visit and used my moms and was so impressed that I think he got one too. You can get a pretty good deal at Bed, Bath and Beyond with one of their 20% off coupons.

I have a dog and an Oreck and neither go together well. The Oreck never seems to get all the hair up and it smells awful. I change the bag and febreeze the vacuum often and it still smells. My next vacuum will not be an Oreck. I recently purchased a Sanitaire vacuum for my work and it is great. I may get one of those next time. Good luck and if you get the Dyson let us know how it works!

We bought a Dyson DC-17 (the purple one) a little over a year ago. Our previous vacuum was leaving dog hair (Border Collie) all over the carpet, and we were expecting a little one. I definitely did not want her crawling on that nastiness, so I bought the Dyson and we LOVE it! The first time I vacuumed, I had to empty the canister 4 times because of all the dirt & hair it picked up that our other vacuum had missed (it was a Hoover, btw). It is very easy to use the wand and all of the attachments are easily accessible. My cousin just bought a Dyson and she has horrible allergies, and she has really enjoyed hers too. Good luck with whichever one you choose, but I think you will not regret buying a Dyson.

I have a top of the line Oreck and I will never use anything else. LOVE IT

10 yr warranty and I can take it in once a yr for routine check and cleaning.

I also have 3 dogs and vaccum a LOT.

My mom has a top of the line Dyson and HATES it. She says she regrets getting it.

Hi! We had a very nice Oreck (that my husband had always wanted!) when we had 2 kids and one cat. It did quite nicely, but I always hated the fact that there were no onboard tools. A couple of years later we had 3 kids, 3 cats and 2 dogs. The Oreck just couldn't keep up any more. My husband's off ice had a Dyson, just a basic model, so we borrowed it over a weekend. We vacuumed a patch with the Oreck, then went over it with the Dyson. I was honestly shocked by the amount of filth that it got out of the carpet. Needless to say, we went and bought a Dyson Animal and I have never regretted it. We have had it for 5 1/2 years now without any problems. It is a bit heavier, but it does have onboard tools, and came with a host of add on attachments, so nothing is beyond it. My next vacuum will also be a Dyson.

Do not get an Oreck! I have one and have regretted the purchase since the day I brought it home. The 21 year warranty was alluring but the yearly maintenance cleanings are useless. My Oreck came back dirty on the outside and they did not replace the brushes on the sides that has fallen out. They said the it was not policy to clean the outside of the machine or replace missing brushes. I'm not sure what they did for the week they had it. It takes several times to go over a spot to get out the dirt. And if you have moderately high pile carpet, it is very hard to push the vacuum. It only works on low pile carpet. It is light weight which is good b/c you have to lift it up to move it from tile or wood to an area rug. Good luck!

I have never used a dyson, but my mother has had an Oreck for many years. It stopped picking up as well after about 6 years or so so she took it to be repaired and they replaced the motor and did a "complete overhaul" on it for around a hundred dollars (at least 6 years ago) but after that, it ran better than new. She's not had anymore problems with it since. So, she had a new Oreck for at least 6 years, had it "overhauled" and has used it for another 6+ years with no problems. For a $200 vacuum plus $100 in repairs, I think that was a pretty good deal. And as of right now, it will suck up a cheerio from about 3 inches away. :-) Now, she's never had pets so I have no idea about how it does with pet fur, but for general cleaning, it works great.

Now, to give you another side to it, I bought a used Oreck off of Ebay for really cheap and it has never had very good suction. I paid about $80 to have it tuned up and a new roller put on about 3 years ago and it still didn't perform like my mom's did. I haven't looked into having the motor replaced or anything like that because when I really need to get another one, I'll probably just buy new so I can get the warranty with it, especially since they now sell them at Costco. But because of my mom's experience, I would go with Oreck myself.

Blessings,
N.

ADDENDUM: In the event you choose a Dyson, I noticed in today's (9-20-09) DMN ads--Big Lots has a yellow Dyson for $279.00. Those kind of deals at Big Lots usually go fast. Just FYI.

I have not had an Oreck, but have had a Kirby, The vacuum I have now is a Dyson, yellow. I LOVE IT!!! I have dogs, no cats. The Dyson, together with the purple animal attachment, was used fairly regularly at my son's house because he had 2 continuosly-shedding, long-haired black cats and it picked up the cat hair fantastically from floor and furniture. Until something else better is invented, I will ALWAYS use a Dyson.

I got a Dyson about six weeks ago and was astounded the first time I ran it through the house. I vacuum at least twice a week so you'd think there wouldn't have been that much to pick up but what that vacuum collected in the canister that first round shocked me. Each time I use it, I always come up with what I consider a really good amount of dust, fuzz and who knows what else :-) It was well worth the $300 I spent on it....got it on sale at Kohls and then had a 30% offf coupon so got a really good price I think...

Go for the Dyson, you won't regret it! I have had mine for almost 3 years I believe. I have 2 dogs and this thing is great about picking up the pet hair, and I just got the regular Dyson, not even the animal. I be the animal is just astounding! I think if I were going to buy another Dyson though, I may go for the Dyson on the Ball, I bet it maneuvers great! The regular Dysons pick up the pet hair great, so I don't hink you have to really get the animal, you could go with a different one and it would probably suck up the pet hair just as great!
