Hi,
My husband and I are considering having a dvd system put into our new car. We have bought a pre-owned car and the individual selling it used to be in the industry and can sell us one at his cost. Does anyone know of a good honest place to have it installed and what a normal price to pay for that might be. We have never had one in the car before but since we can get it for such a great deal we are considering it...we just know nothing about the process so are unsure of what we can expect to pay for the installation.
Thanks in advance for any advice!!

What can I do next?

Portable ones are nice, but the wires and trying to be careful with it while it's hanging in the car can be a hassel! Also, when we travel, once our kids have watched movies for hours on end in the car - they aren't really interested once we get to the hotel! We have 4 kids, so for me - one that is installed is best...actually we have both, but rarely use the portable.

Back to the original question, you can call some of the companies that do installations - I don't think you have to buy the system there to get the installation. My husband is in the car business and may know of someone, too. If you are still interested, email me and I can get him to see if someone is interested. They are usually willing to make a little on the side.

I would second the idea on a portable one. My son bought one for a road trip we took with them and two grandchildren. He bought two of them and it was great for they could each watch their own separate video. The plus factor was when we got to our destination, they can be taken inside the hotel room and be used as well. They also use them at home too for sometimes they want to watch different things. It surely helps in the battles of what to watch.
Also, I have read on the internet in reviews that they don't always last too long either amd they just keep upgrading them to boot.

We bought the really big and expensive 15 inch for our car. We got a great deal when Tweeter was going out of business. We went to all those specialty car stores and asked about instillation and they all wanted to build something or somehow charge us alot because they said it was too big for our Yukon. Then we went to Best Buy and had them install it for $199. I am happy with it. My kids pushed a few buttons on it and I thought it was broken. Best Buy just turned it back to the right channel and it worked again free of charge :)
Good Luck!

I would just get a portable DVD system that you can hang over the back of the car seat. They are inexpensive and you could get more than one if all the kids couldn't see just one.
