I feel so dumb for asking this. I keep feeling like I know things but they escape my memory! I gave birth almost 2 months ago and have received my sons ss card, but I forgot how to go about getting his birth cert. I think I have some paperwork about it...please remind me. Thanks!

Hi Stace! If you filled out the paperwork at the admissions office at Beaumont before you left the hospital or at his 1 week check, you just have to go pick it up at the county office--there's one on George Dieter or Zaragoza below the freeway. I think it costs 20 bucks.
All you have to do is go to your local court house office where they give the birth certificates, and mariage licenses. I believe its called the county clerks office.
You can order them online:

It depends on where you live. My kiddos BC was mailed to me. (Galveston)
I would think that the hospital in which you gave birth would know the exact specifics.
Margaret :)
I recall going to the City Hall and waiting for a few minutes to get the birth certificate. Maybe it was there because Bryan is also the county seat.
And, there are no dumb questions! In college, every time I thought that I would recall "there are others wanting to ask the same thing. They just are aren't brave enough to speak up first!"

Hi S.
In the county where you live is a county courthouse.....go there if possible to the Dept. of vital Statics- or they may even have a sign telling you where you can go for the birth certificate- or if it is not possible for you to physically go to the courthouse- try calling and they will most likely be able to send you a copy.
good luck and blessings
They should have had you do the paperwork for the birth certificate at the hospital. You will have to go to your nearest dept. of vital statistics to get a certified copy of it. I would definitely take it with you on your trip to Indiana.
As for the forgetfulness...this can be caused by just giving birth.
1) you have so much going on right now, no wonder you can't remember everything.
2) you might want to have your doc check your thyroid output level. Your hormones are probably all out of whack because of giving birth. If your thyroid is not producing hormones like it should, it can cause you to be a little cloudy minded and forgetful.
All you do is go down to the city offices (the clerk) and ask for it. It is usually a fee involved. Takes no time at all (unless you are in a big city).
Yes, paperwork! The hospital should have given you a form to fill out and mail it in or you can do it online I believe. You have to pay for the cert. now. It cost under 40.
There are no dumb questions when you are a new mom- the hospital should have done all of the paperwork for the BC and you will receive it in the mail.
congrats, sounds like you got good advice. i couldnt remember the name of the place but city hall sounds right and i totally forgot about sending off a form before i went down there. you can call the hospital and ask them what to do. sounds like you got momneisia like amnisiea ( memory loss) it happens to alot of mommas but your memory will slowly come back...i think its due to alack of sleep.
I had to go the local county courthouse and fill out a form and pay to get it. That was all.
Hi S.
I see you live in El Paso so do I. YOu have to get the birth certificate at the county courthouse in the District Clerks office 1st floor of the courthouse. The address is 500 E. San Antonio. I had a baby girl a year ago and this is where I got hers. When you go in you will see a line for birth/death certificates I think it was about $36.00.
Congrats!

Contact the city where he was born and they will have it for you to pick up.
