Duh! Why Didn't I Think of That?!?!

I suffer from allergy/sinus problems so I always carry tissue with me. The problem is... I hate sticking the loose tissues in my purse b/c I worry they're going to fall to the bottom of my purse & get dirty (purses are pretty dirty from what I've seen on TV germ swab experiments) and/or get tissue dust all over my purse. I hate buying those individual tissue packs b/c they're so darn expensive and don't hold very many tissues. I noticed a parent at a school event recently who asked her child if they needed a tissue and then she proceeded to pull out a light weight cosmetic zippered bag. She opened it up and it was full of tissues, just tissues. I thought to myself "what a great idea!". So the next day I went out and bought a cheap zippered cosmetic bag for this purpose. I have to say it's been working out perfectly! I can't believe I never thought of this idea myself!

So what "Duh, why didn't I think of that" tips have you stolen lately?

So What Happened?

Kris S.: Yeah, I saw that same trick on Pinterest the other day! Glad to hear it actually works.

Great ideas everyone!

Angeles T & NewinFrisco: Thank you but I'm well aware they sell the prepackaged tissues that why I wrote in my post: "I hate buying those individual tissue packs b/c they're so darn expensive and don't hold very many tissues". LOL. I was looking for a solution to not have to buy those prepacks.

I had a customer show me a trick for getting a key off one of those really stiff rings that people put all their keys on. He grabbed my staple remover and used the prongs to hold the parts of the ring apart. Easy, zero effort, no broken fingernails.

I buy cheap conditioner & lotion & mix the two and I use this as my shaving cream. It works just as great as expensive stuff but doesn't foam. Leaves my legs silky smooth for cheapy cheap and been doing it for years.

I also hang a net laundry bag, kind for lingerie or bras in each kids room & they put their socks & undies in them. On laundry day, I zip bag & toss it in and it keeps my kids things seperated. Once they are dry, I toss on their bed for them to put away the clean things & re hang bag. Saves my time & no missing anything! bags are cheap at walmart!

Well, kind of reverse stealing to report here...
I've been cutting the Mr Clean Magic Erasers in quarters for years.
Now? They're selling break apart magic erasers! Lol

Oh--my mom sews little fabric envelope-type bags for tea bags, tissues etched and they're really handy. All my friends get them because they're a great idea!

Oh--use a pizza cutter to cut big cookie cakes.

I had a very 'Duh!' moment the other day when I asked a question on here about rewashing my dishes because my MIL used a sponge that I only use for scrubbing the kitchen sink and drains to wash them. A lot of answers said next time just hide the yucky sponge and leave the clean one out.

Duh!!! To make myself feel even more stupid, I had a feeling she might clean up in the kitchen because she's been known to do that from time to time plus I'm pregnant and haven't been feeling well so yes things haven't been looking spotless lately!

It was such a simple solution that I can't believe now when I thought to myself before I left.. 'oh I wonder if she's gonna wash the dishes, hmmm I hope she uses the clean sponge' ...WOW.

Bet you don't feel too bad now, I'm gonna blame this one on the pregnancy Lol!

Zip lock bags are good for that type of thing as well. The freezer bags are strong enough to hold up in a purse, and you can see what is in them.

I just got an email about growing a green onion in a glass of water. It says if you just put the white part of a green onion into a glass of water on the kitchen window sill the green part will continue to sprout again and again, and you can just keep harvesting the same onion. I will be trying it. I grow green onions outside in the summer, but I don't have any all winter, and I like to add green onion to salmon or tuna salad.

I get those cosmetic bags in sets of 3...small, medium, large. In the large one, I put all the "in case of emergency" stuff......neosporin, band aides, inhaler, epi pen, etc... In the medium bag, I put a sandwhich bag full of wipies. In the small bag, I put lip gloss, pens, etc...

Not that I would have ever thought of this myself...so it's not so much a 'Duh, why didn't I think of that'...but it is still pretty cool and handy...

You can use an empty clean water bottle to separate egg yolks from the egg whites. You crack your eggs in a bowl and then you just squeeze the water bottle slightly, then put the opening over the egg yolk, un-squeeze and it sucks the yolk right up! Then just squeeze it back out somewhere else, like a different container if you need to use the yolks, trash can or whatever. Then you can put the egg whites in an ice cube tray and freeze for later too!
How cool is that??

~Love this site! I am *totally* stealing the idea of the mesh garment bags for the kids' white clothes...I hate separating white socks!!!

I did that with my tampons. They kept falling apart at the bottom of my purse as you described with your kleenex, and of course you can't use them then. Another thing I did was get one of those little salad dressing containers like Tupperware has, and I put my vitamins in them. I can mix them up all and take them when I need to, and now I don't have to keep a bunch of bottles in my purse.

I stole this idea from a friend. We had several days warning that Hurricane Sandy may take out the power in my area. Instead of racing to the store and fighting over the last few bags of ice my friend took several tupperware containers, filled them with water, and popped them in her freezer. After a few hours, voila! A bunch of big ice blocks!

I put tissues and baby wipes in ziplock bags (separate) when I think I may need them. If you're wondering what to do with used tissues (say while walking around a store), keep an extra baggie in your purse and discard when you find a trash can. I also use a small cosmetic bag as my mini First Aid kit (bandaids, ibuprofen, neosporin, hand sanitizer).

My current "wish I had thought of that" item is this coffee mug that looks like a face and the mouth is wide open (at the bottom of the mug). Perfect for cookies & milk! (Or coffee and donut)

You could also buy packs of prepackaged tissues. I get them for everybody around here to carry in their bags, coat pockets, schoolbags.
