I highly recommend the Baby Aquaphor. It works wonders. It is like Vaseline, so it does look greasy, but it helps the dry skin very well. My son gets dry patches around his mouth in the winter, so I use it daily.
I have a newborn daughter who is one month old today. She has really bad dry skin on her face and her head. I really dont think the skin on her head is cradel cap. My oldest daughter had that and it looks nothing like. It just looks really dry most of it is on her forhead. Is there anything that I can use since she is so young.

Baby Aveno worked great on my daughter. She has really bad dry skin and that was the only thing that has worked for her.
Hi K., I have a product that is made just for babies dry skin and works wonders on babies that have exima. If you are interested in more details please respond back to me and I can get you more details. Thanks, P.
Wash with Cetaphil cleanser, pat (don't rub) dry with a towel and immediately apply aquaphor from head to toe. Lucky for you it's Winter so you can wrap him up in a blanket sleeper and a hat. Slick little piggy is definitely the right description for the result (I have 2 slick little piggies on bath night). Don't bathe too often but when you do make sure the moisture is sealed in.
My dtr is almost 7weeks old and had the same thing last week. I just kept putting johnsons baby lotion on it all day whenever it started looking dry, even in her hair. I was having a hard time resisting the urge to pick at it and if nothing else I figured it would help me to not make her skin raw. It seemed to do the trick though because it's back to normal now.
Our doc has us use the Eucerin cream. It is super think and in a tub, not just the lotion. The common "baby products" had too many dyes and perfumes for her sensitive skin. Good luck!
try Glimpse moisterizer from Xango. It is the only one I know of that is toxin free. Check it out at www.glimpselady.com/ What ever products you use on or around you baby check them out first at http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com/ This is a website that lets you check the toxicity of all the products you use. You will be horrified at the amount of toxins in most of the commonly used baby products. All the toxins in those products are being absorbed into your childs system as the skin happens to be ourlargest organ and absorbs whatever we put on it. This includes the residue on our clothes left by laundry detergents to the perfume and hair products we use. If you want more information on this subject give me a call at ###-###-#### and I will be happy to give you the information I have available.
I totally agree on the baths and vaporizor with Catherine. I just used Aveeno Body Wash/Shampoo for eczema then use the Aveeno Lotion for eczema and its a lot better. My daughters forhead was the worst so her doctor perscribed Desonide 0.05% Lotion and its all better. During the hot days and when she is outside in the sun it acts up so I cake on the Aveeno and her lotion :0)
Hope this help.

My son had peeling flaky skin too at that age. The doc said it was because my son went 41 weeks, and was hanging out in his own pee for a while in utero. I can't remember how long it took for it to go away, but i remember asking the doctor if i could exfoiliate him somehow, and she said no.
I'm not familiar with some of the lotions people said their Drs recommended. I do know something about the Renew from Melaleuca and think it would be fine to use. However, my recommendation was going to be just a little bit of extra virgin olive oil.
I do know that too much washing at a young age can be bad for the scalp. My mother tells me that all my hair fell out when I was a year old, and the Dr. told her it was because she was washing my hair every day! I know products in those days weren't as gentle as what we can get now, but I still think bathing a young baby once a week is plenty.. you can wash off with a washcloth dampened in plain water most anything that need to be washed in between times.
Congrats on your new daughter!! You need to try Renew Lotion from Melaleuca. You have to be a member to buy from them, but its' so worth it. The renew is safe for newborns and up. I have a brand new travel size one I can send you if you'd like. They carry over 400 household products that are green, save us $$, and are safer for our kids/familes. No chemicals in cleaners, just awesome, I love shopping through them! Let me know if you like to try the sample I have!
My son had dry skin and I have been using Renew lotion. It seems to be taking care of the problem. If you need help finding it send me a note and I will tell you how to get it.
Hi K.,
Congratulations on your new baby! It's great that you are so cautious with her, as most products on the market contain synthetic chemicals and preservatives that are hormone disruptors - not safe for our babies at all! I recommend Miessence products, because not only are they free of synthetic chemicals, they are certified organic to food standards. Non-organic products often contain GMO ingredients (most corn & soy in the USA is genetically modified to withstand killer doses of pesticides - and you will find corn derivitives like citric acid and soy oil in some skin care products).
Gentle enough for newborns, Miessence baby products are so safe you could eat them (but pamper baby's skin instead). You can order Miessence Baby Lotion here ~ http://aromatherapist.mionegroup.com/en/product/33410
See all the certified organic Miessence Baby Care here ~

Misessence Baby Lotion is effective and all natural ~ with ingredients like organic raw coconut oil, aloe vera and botanicals like chamomile and calendula to nourish and hydrate your baby's dry skin, leaving it smooth and supple. It's a great product, and great to share with other moms (a way to make some extra cash) ~ we have a special $6 sign-up during February, so if you'd like to know more about getting your products at a discount, or making some extra money, give me a call. Have fun with your baby!
Warmly,
K. Lee

Hi K.
Congrats on her 1 month of age!!! My boy had some dry skin as well and his pediatrician recommended Aquaphor baby..you can get anywhere..LongsDrugs...Safeway...etc..
BUT I always think is better to ask the pediatrician first before using anything on your baby....
Good Luck !!!
Coconut Oil. A good, raw coconut oil is wonderful for dry skin!! We use it all the time instead of lotion. It absorbs in your skin quickly.
It's perfect. No harsh chemicals, all natural.

Good luck!
We had success with Eucerin Cream. (Though our baby was dry on her limbs, not her face!) You might try washing it gently with just water- maybe it is still just leftover from her birth? Best wishes.
Our dermatologist gave us Eucerin Creme and Aquaphor to use on our girls when they were born. Also, Baby Aveeno. Make sure you slather on the lotion after you bathe or sponge bathe her. We referred to our girls as "slick little piggies" after we put on the lotion. Good luck.
Hi K.
My daughter has just turned one and had what sounds like the same dry skin. You may want to check it's not excema though at her next check up. The thing I found best was baby oil gel - it's like baby oil but a lot thicker so it doesn't slop everywhere. I would massage it in to her hair and forehead 10-20 mins before bathtime and then shampoo it out with a soft baby brush. It won't all come out and will act as a moisturizer for the next few hours. It is greasy so just use a little.
Hope this helps

Good morning K.. I am working for a company that has really awesome safe products for dry skin. Even newborns can use it so if you are interested you can contact me at ____@____.com
Try olive oil or coconut oil. Both work nicely--coconut oil is gorgeous--they can't hurt her, they're natural, and you probably already have one or both in the kitchen. They're what I use on my 3-month old's dry skin, & have since he was born.
Aquaphor (made by Eucerin) works wonders for us, and was highly recommended by our pediatrician for my daughter's extremely dry skin on her back and sometimes her legs. I also have used it for rashes on her face and bottom. It clears everything right up, and is really gentle!
Have you tried a really simple solution of vegetable glycerin and water?
My 5 month old daughter has eczema, and also a very dry scalp that I don't think is cradle cap either. I don't use anything scented for her skin. I love using the Aveeno baby lotions because they're oatmeal based and very good at moisturizing. you can use some the top of her head, it's easier right after the bath, because the lotion won't get her hair as greasy feeling.
My pediatrician told us not to bathe the baby very often (only every 3 or 4 days) because water is extremely drying. He also recommended Aquaphor to create a barrier to trap in moisture. Eucerin also worked well for us. When you do bathe the baby, don't use any soap, but especially not Johnson's & Johnson's Baby Shampoo/Wash. If you have central forced air heating in your house, that could create a very low humidity environment in your home so maybe a humidifier would help?
Good luck,
C.
