Hi Moms.. Sorry this question may be a little gross, but its driving me nuts... Lately my nose is sooo dry, that I'm waking up with tons of crust inside stuck to the nasal walls (i know, yuck...sorry)... I try to spray saline in there and then blow but its still stuck. I do have seasonal allergies and have felt a lot of drainage going on also....that yucky feeling of slime between back of nose and throat. Maybe I'm not explaining it right, but its something that drives me nuts! I've been trying to take some zyrtec and its not helping. I know its certainly not an issue with moisture in the air, since its been so hot here lately and even with our air on ...the humidity in the house is reading at 65% ... So, how do I get this to stop? My nose feels so dry inside and has awful crust in there that hurts! ugh.. Sorry for the yuckiness of this one :) Thanks for your help !!

What can I do next?

This stuff is a lifesaver! I've used it for years and it is wonderful. You can buy it at any pharmacy over the counter. Good luck!

Try a netti pot and see if it helps get rid of the congestion and mucus. I would also take some type of decongestant. It may sound crazy but put some vaseline on the tip of your finger and put it on the inside of your nostrils. That will help with the crust in your nose. In the morning when you take a hot shower blow youir nose inthe shower. A hot drink of coffee or tea will also help with the congestion when you wake up. Good luck

Try a saline rinse (same concept as a netti pot) but easier. Also, put a humidifier in your bedroom at night - cool mist is better in the summer : ). Keep drinking LOTS of liquids as well to keep hydrated. And I agree, if the Zytec isn't helping. stop it as it does dry you out. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

The zyrtec, as an antihistamine, is part of the problem.... it is drying things up for you.

I realize you have seasonal allergies and need it, but understanding where that is coming from helps.

the neosporin is a good idea...

vasaline at night would help to sleep with it on your nose or in your nose.

Use a neti pot daily. My allergist suggested 2-3 times a day, but who has time for that?

My easy trick is to put neosporin on a q-tip and stick it up my nose. This will keep it nice and moist all night long, if not most of the night any how. This also works great for colds in the winter time.

I second the recommendation from another mom who mentioned the Ayr saline nasal gel. It has helped me so much with the same issue you mentioned. I got great results for my allergies with a nutritional supplement and have not taken any allergy meds since May of 2010, but have still dealt with that nasal dryness you mentioned. The Ayr product is a huge help!

I'd try over the counter Claritin or keep using the Zyrtec, and I'd also put vaseline inside your nose at bedtime with your finger or a Q-tip. Drink lots of clear fluids around the clock. Definitely sounds like allergies.

My husband and I usually have this problem in the winter time. We use a humidifier in the room at night and it helps a lot.

Xylitol supplement is good for balancing bacteria in ears, nose, and throat, especially for little ones with recurring ear infections. They make xylitol nose sprays that are very gentle. Also, Olbas makes a wonderful massage oil with eucalyptus and other good clearing herbs. You put a few drops into a hot basin or plugged (clean) sink and hover over it inhaling it or use a hot washcloths to inhale it over your face (but be careful to not get it into eyes). taking a shower or doing the hot washcloth to get it loosened is best, you dont want to be rough or you will end up very sore. It sounds to me like you are fighting something, I would take a good vitamin c, zinc, and l-lysine to boost your immune system and get it out of there! Hope you feel better!
