You might try aloe vera, at least it's natural and not greasy, and really does promote healing.
My 3 month old son gets super dry and irritated skin, only on his fore head, i find him rubbing on it and it gets worse.. we've tried using the humidifier and i have found putting some aquahor (by Eucerin) on it helps some, but makes him look so greasy..which isnt a big deal..but it always comes back..I think i get it under control then we go somewhere else for a night or the humidifer isnt on,or nothing is different... and it's all dry again..poor kid! Also- his cradle cap is not going away, how long do babies have it? and i don't want ot scrub hard on his head or anything that might hurt him, or make his hair fall out, anyone have any products or ideas that help with these issues??..
Thanks for all the advice, Just to let you know, I had talked to the doc about it ahwhile back, and he thought it sounded like eczema but we didn't take him in, he just said to try the things I mentioned.
So, I followed the advice about using olive oil and I brushed it on with a soft toothbrush and brushed it around and let it sit..then followed up with the aveeno baby soap.. and I've been using the baby aveeno cream on his face a few days and it is working nicely! Thanks again ladies!!

hi A.,
Check with your Pediatrician of course, but you can rub a little bit of pure olive oil on your baby's scalp - be sure to shampoo after because leaving oil on the scalp too long will just make the flakes stick. Leave the olive oil on for about 15 minutes, then wash with baby shampoo and gently use a baby washcloth to massage his little scalp while shampooing and to cut the oil and then rinse well. you can then gently comb out any remaining flakes with a fine-tooth comb. This worked with my children (my grandmother told me to do this).
Is it possible he might have eczema on his forehead? If your little guy has eczema, it can be an indicator of allergies - which you'll want to keep an eye out for as he gets a little older. Might be a good idea to have your pediatrician take a look to tell you for sure since there are creams that are good just for eczema and other lotions can irritate it.
My daughter had some exczema on her arms as a baby (and I have it too - as I am plagued with many allergies) but so far she has not had any other allergy symptoms at age 4, just sensitive skin to go with her red hair. :-)
cheers,
W.
Hi A., I am sure you already have the problem solved, but in case you don't. Please google, cancer causing agents in baby products. there are many products, of which I used on my kids that have cancer causing agents in them. I am passionate about educating people about using safe products for their children and themselves. Here is one link, I just googled it http://www.breastcancerfund.org/site/pp.asp?c=kwKXLdPaE&a... . You should also make sure what you are using on your baby is non toxic. Do not use anything with Mineral oil in it, it is just petroleum oil. If you want more information please email me. Also, I have a friend who had a daughter with really bad excema and it turned out to be food allergies. Maybe if you are nursing ,keep a food diary, and if not maybe it is the formula. M.
My son had bad cradle cap until he was about 11 months old. It will go away, don't worry. The doctors made us think it was soooo terrible, but the more mom's I talked to, the more I realized it wasn't so bad. Just keep washing it gently and get one of those little soft baby brushes and brush his head with it.
For the dry skin, my dermatologist suggested Vaseline Intensive Care lotion and it worked great. We had the same thing - it's got to do with the weather outside and time of year. Eucerine aquahor - I tried personally and it made my dry skin hurt - there is something in it that irritated me, so I'd be alittle leary using that. If you have any dry spots, try it on yourself and see if it works for you. The regular Eucerine was fine, but you only use a very little or you'll feel greasy.

You and all moms out there need not to worry too much about this. This happens, but it is imperative that you use products for your baby that are SUPER gentle and have no chemicals, fragrances, dyes, mineral oi, etc. Just like another post said about burning her skin - can you imagine doing that to your poor baby? There is a fantastic line of product that has a wash, lotion, oil, and diaper creme plus baby suncare protection that is made especially for very sensitive skin. It shouldn't take 2 weeks to get rid of cradle cap - the product isn't working then. These products are pure and botanically based and truly do help with not only cradle cap, but help protect your baby's skin, pH balance and keep it moisturized. Baby's lose moisture so much faster than we adults so it is imperative to use a good lotion on them.
I would be happy to tell you more about the products that you can order online and get delivered straight to your door. Now wouldn't that be the best of all worlds - safe product, ease of delivery and helping with skin irritation? They are 100% guaranteed or your money back. Could you get that from an Over the counter brand? Truly, let me know how I can help you and your little one. You want to make sure that you don't let this continue or his skin get drier! Here's to all of you moms out there struggling with this issue and more. I teach people healthier alternatives for themselves and their families. I would be happy to help you too!

My baby had really bad dry skin too. I went to Walgreens and found this bottle of Exzema baby wash and body lotion. It's going to cost you like 20 for both bottles, but it helped him a lot. It took about two weeks but his dry skin is almost gone now! Try switching lotions too. Use the baby wash and lotion at night before bed, and put the lotion on him in the morning when he wakes up, then after every other diaper change, put Aveeno baby lotion on him. I know it sounds like a lot, but it might help your little one too. Give it a shot and tell me if it's helping.
His your son on formula? Have you tried switching this? Sometimes food allergies will aggravate cases of eczema. If home remedies don't work, speak with your dr about this possibility.
My daughter (8) and I both have very dry skin and the one thing I have found that works best for us is the Aveena moisutre cream...not the lotion...the cream. It's called Soothing Relief Moisiture Cream. It comes in a tube with a dark blue cap. I would swear by this stuff. My dr also told me to bath her a little more often to remove the dry skin but not every day and to use a soothing oatmeal based cleanser.
Good luck!
Well, you should have a doctor check out the skin problems to properly diagnose the problem. It could be a number of skin issues. The doctor might tell you to apply hydrocortisone cream to his skin in a mild concentration. That's what worked for my son's skin break out as a 1 month old. As far as cradle cap, that could go on as long as a year, from what I read. What I was told by my son's doctor and have read to do is to lighly apply oil to the head to loosen the scales, then lightly scratching the scales off with a comb - all before washing the scalp, but this won't get rid of it completely.
