Both my sons dropped their morning naps and moved to the afternoon naps around this age. The after noon naps ended up being longer but that was fine. The evening bed time stayed the same. Good luck.
My son is almost 13 months old, and for the past week has not been wanting to go down for his morning nap. Most days he sings or talks until he eventually falls asleep, but this takes at least an hour or more! The days he hasn't gone to sleep, he just gets louder and louder until he's mad and crying. When I go to him, he's happy and doesn't seem tired. He then goes down perfectly for the afternoon nap. He has always been a great sleeper and napper. My daughter didn't drop this nap until 18 months! Has anyone else had a child who dropped the morning nap this soon? Just wondering if I should keep trying or give it up completely?? Thanks so much!
Thank you all for reassuring me that this is normal! I think I'm going to keep trying for another week, as for the past 2 days, he's taken a 1 1/2 hour morning nap! If he starts fighting it, he'll just have to give it up. He goes to bed by 7pm and is up between 6-7am, so even with one nap, he'll be getting the proper amount of sleep. The one nap will be easier for us to do things this summer, so maybe it's not so bad! Thanks for your advice-I really appreciate it!

Hi P.,
My now three year old daughter had dropped her morning nap by the time she was 7 months old, unlike my older girls who took two naps until they were about 18 months old. It's nothing to worry about, it just means that you have less free time to get things done!
Have a great day!

My daughter stopped her morning nap around 14 months. Now she's 22 months and has only one nap around 1pm and sleeps till 3- 3:30. I think he's trying to tell you he is to old for the morning nap now. He is slowly becoming a big boy. Good luck
My DS and DD both dropped their nap at around 7-9 months. They sleep through the night fine and take good afternoon naps of 2 or 3 hours. I actually prefer the one nap schedule.
Sounds like he's telling you the nap isn't needed anymore. That's what all mine have done when they were finished with that naptime. All of them have different. That doesn't sound too early to me to go to one nap. I would try it and see how he does with it. Don't stress too much! You can always go back to two if you need to!
I have a now 5 year old who took two good naps a day until he was 18 months old. My now 4 year old only ever took one nap a day. I have a 2 year old who dropped his morning nap around a year, and took a good afternoon nap right after lunch. I now have a one year old, who still takes 2 naps a day! The one in the morning is about an hour, and the afternoon is longer. I am ready for him to go to one a day, to make it a little easier for me, since things have to planned around his nap schedule. They are all different. Sounds like he is happy!!
Hi P.,
My son is almost 13 months old, as well, and he practically refuses to take more than one nap a day. He usually goes down great for his morning nap, but he will fight an afternoon nap with all he's got. He has been doing this for a couple of months now. I just decided that we would not try to force him to take a nap when he is so adamantly against it and doesn't seem overly tired. It seems to be working out ok for us. I've found that my son will easily take a nap if he is tired and ready, but otherwise, it is just a battle waiting to happen. I guess we both have very active, curious, and strong-willed little boys on our hands!
Unfortunately it looks like he is dropping that nap. My son dropped his morning nap at 11-12 months. i thought it was too early, but he just wouldn't sleep in the morning anymore. He had always been a great sleeper too. I had to move his afternoon nap a little earlier, so you may have to do the same. Fortunately he is 2 1/2 and still takes a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoons. Good Luck, C.
My oldest (now 11) gave up napping completely when he was 14 months old. My fifth child, now 13 months, is down to one nap a day. Don't fight him; just follow his cues.
My daughter dropped her morning nap at around 9 or 10 months. She now naps from 1-3 everyday. Every child is different, so just watch for the signs they give.
I'd give it another week or even two. This could be just a phase. My 2nd daughter did a lot of this kind of thing, but the naps always came back. He may truly be done with the morning nap and you'll know after another week or so.
My twin boys dropped their morning nap when they were about 12-13 months old. I was devastated, but they seemed to do just fine without it :) Now they take a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and sleep a good 12 hours at night.
Hi P.! My daughter is now almost 17 months old and has been in daycare since she was 10 weeks old. Even before she was 12 months old she got to where she wouldn't take a morning and afternoon nap every day. Sometimes she'd skip the morning and take one earlier in the afternoon. When she entered the Infant Three room (12 months to 18 months, generally), much to my surprise, all the kids only take one nap after lunch for about 2 to 2.5 hours. And, she rarely, will even now sometimes skip that one! So, I'd say not to worry about it a bit and maybe just make his afternoon nap right after lunch. It works well for my daughter. Good luck!
hey P.,
my 2 year old dropped his morning nap at 10 months and started taking like a 3 hour afternoon nap. i just had to make sure i kept him awake until 1 or 2 in the afternoon to make sure he was really tired to take a good nap. i think you just have to figure out what he needs because every child is different. i still have friends whose 2 year olds are taking 2 naps a day, but they wake up really early and my little guy doesn't wake up until 8 or 9. you can always try it for a couple days and if it doesn't work, figure something else out. good luck!!

Mine dropped his at 11 months. I'm not sure there's much of anything you can do to fight this one. I would try for maybe 3 weeks total to make sure he is giving it up - then you have to give it up. Sorry!
Hi P.,
My son dropped his morning nap at 12 months. Now my daughter doesn't nap at all and she is five months, however, she sleeps all night so I cannot complain. I know dropping that morning nap is such an adjustment (more for us moms:).
Both of my children dropped the second nap around 9 months. They always slept through the night and never gave me any trouble about the afternoon nap so it worked for us. Neither of them have ever been really good nappers but they have always taken what they needed from the nap. You can tell when your child is cranky and needing a nap so let your instincts rule. You may need to bump up the afternoon nap to an earlier time so he doesn't reach the inconsolable state before his nap. :) Enjoy some much deserved freedom this summer!
My first son dropped his morning nap around 13 months. He went from two, two hour naps to one, three hour nap.
My kids from day one have only had one nap in the afternoon, 2-430ish. But we get up at 830-9a every day which makes a difference. It all depends on the level of activity you child has in the morning and what time he gets up for the day. If he is a joy to deal with without taking a nap then drop the nap, but if he is getting cranky add it once in awhile or make it a little bit later by 30min. Good luck and enjoy the naps while you can
My son is 18 mos and he hasnt' had 2 naps a day since he was probably 13 mos old- I say if he sleeps well at night for you and takes one 2 hour nap a day- go ahead and drop it! all kids are different- my first son quit napping entirely the day he turned 3- my second son who is 5 still falls asleep almost 3 to 4 times a week for a nap - my third son only takes one nap a day (mid morning and doesnt go to bed till 7PM but sleeps a full 12 hours ) so I guess they will do what they need- sometimes they will drop a nap for while and then a couple weeks later they will want/need two naps again...if he doesnt' fall asleep within 15 minutes of putting him down- I would get him up and go about your day.
Good Luck
Nikki
My son dropped his morning nap at about 11 months. He sleeps about 9.5 hours at night and takes a 1.5hour nap after lunch. He is now 18 months. They say total sleep for the day should be anywhere from 10-13 hours a day.
Oh yes! Nap time is different from one kid to the next! My first stopped taking ALL naps at age 16 months when I put him in a toddler bed (because I had a 2 month old that needed the crib). Then my second stopped all naps at age 18 or was it 19 months. Then my 4th (now 2yo), doesn't take naps most days, but does some. My boys never did that! At 13 months, I believe is where all of my kids went to one nap a day. That magical number.

Mine dropped her afternoon nap at 14 months, so we scooted the morning nap later and later until we got to noon-ish. During the transition time, we had to make her bedtime a little earlier (30mins-1hr) also. You might scoot your afternoon nap earlier. I have a book that says the switch to one nap can be anywhere between 12 and 24 months, with the average age being 16-18 months. I'd say your guy is a little young, but not too far off from the norm. Hope this helps!
What time does he go to bed at night and get up in the moring maybe he doesnt need a moring nap
My daughter, now 2 1/2, stopped napping all together around one year. She stopped taking multi naps a couple months before that. My mil said my hubby was the same way. I think it differs for every child. I didn't force my daughter....just let her sleep when she wanted and she does great now. Up around 9am and in bed at 8pm.
i'm reading healthy sleep habits, happy child-- you might want to check it out. i think dropping the am nap is normal.
i have a 14 month old and she only takes 1 nap a day at around 12:30 maybe later depending on what time she awakes for the day. It sounds to me that he is ready to give up that morning nap. 1-2 hours in the crib trying to fall asleep is way too long!
