Aquaphor is thick enough that the drool really doesnt get on the cheeks. It worked for my constant drooling son who also had rashes on his chheecks. Good luck!
Hi. I have a 6 month old baby who is always drooling due to teething. She drools so much that she has a rash on her chin and cheeks. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what I could put on the rash that if it ended it up in her mouth would not be toxic! Since at this stage she is putting everything in her mouth! I would appreciate any ideas. Thank you

For my daughter we used the same cream (lanolin I think it is what it is called) you used when breast feeding. It is not toxic and it helped her.
G.,
My daughter is drooling a lot these days too. I've used vaseline. I dry her and then just a thin coating has helped her. Good luck,

My kids all had drool face at least for awhile.
Baby cream was always the best if you could find it. Eucerin the thick thick tub of cream also works and has no nothing in it for more sensitive skin.
And soon enough the drool will go away......
Definitely try Aquaphor - there is a "baby" version you can buy at the drugstore. I use it for everything - rashes, dry/chapped skin - anything really.
Aquaphor or Eucerin would work, put it on thickly at night as she's going to sleep so you know it won't be going into her mouth. This always helped the dry, rashy areas on my drooly babies. :)
Hi there, my name is D.. I am 60 and was with children 40 years. My mom was a foster mom many years. I was a day care mom for 23 years .6 children at a time. Well a good ointment is called a&d . Excelent for rashes. Hope she gets some teeth very soon.
I always just put a barrier of vaseline on my son's chin - he had the same problem. It always seemed to work (until I forgot to put it on, then the rash came back :) )
We've always found Vaseline to work the best. The best time to do that is when she is sleeping...then it doesn't all get rubbed off as much as when they are awake. It worked wonders on my son!
Good luck!

Johnson & Johnson makes a great product for this reason. I forget what it is called since my son is now 20 months. But it is a small tube that reminds me of a small stick of deoderant and it is a pretty green color. You can find it any where with all the diaper rash creams if I do remember correctly.
It smells great & worked great for my son who has very sensitive skin. It will say right on it for cheeks, chin and something else for rash due to teething.
Hi - Yes, I agree with everyone: use Vaseline. But I have another idea also: when the baby is sleeping for the night, put on a tiny trace of Neosporin. This way she is sleeping and won't touch it. Wipe it off gently when she wakes up if you see any left there. I had a heat rash on my cheeks and the pharmacist told me to use this. It was itchy and inflamed and Neosporin worked. They said this was the best thing to use since it was near the eyes. For Neosporin, however, it says to consult a physician for children under two. So either use just a tiny, tiny amount, or call a pharmacist at your drug store to ask or, of course, call your baby doctor. Good luck!
Try putting vaseline on her chin etc when it is dry -- it should help prevent the rash by creating a barrier between the salvia and her skin.
Good luck!
Hi, when my kids went through this I used a little bit of Lansinoh. I figured if it was safe and extremely effective when I was breastfeeding than it should work for them too (and it did). I checked with my pedi and he said that it was fine. Hope this might help!
I used lanolin and it worked great. I would dry off my daughters mouth and chin and put it on. It is safe enough to use on your nipples while nursing. Good luck.
HI-
I agree with the other advisees! I think with a drool rash it's just from the skin being wet and getting irritated, so you want to keep it drool free. Clean off and dry the rashy area, then put on some Aquaphor or vaseline, just a thin layer. That will keep water (drool) off babies skin.

hi
the best is good old petroleum jelly (vasiline). It will help it go away and not have it come back again. It is very safe.

Hi. My baby had the same skin troubles when he was doing all the drooling. What worked for us was putting the Aquaphor Eucerin ointment on his cheeks and chin at bedtime, by morning he was almost completely cleared up. I suggest at night since this too is a product that you don't want baby ingesting but you also do not need to use alot of the product. Pacifiers at that age always stopped lots of drooling. Best to you and the wee one.
Get the Gerber Face stick. It works great protecting the skin. You can get it at any pharmacy store like walgreens or cvs.
You can use the Lansinoh (sp?) It's the lotion nursing Moms use on their nipples. It works great on chapped lips, diaper rash drool rash, and dry skin!
Plain old vaseline is great! Balmex also makes a multi purpose stuff that is vaseline based and is great for chapped skin due to constant drooling, wind, cold, ect.
My son had the same problem for months! The only thing that worked was to make a paste with baking soda and water and spread it on his chin at bathtime, let it sit until it dried out while he played then just rinse it away. Withing days the rash was gone completely, and to help the area stay dry and clear after bath I put Aquafour Baby on, just a thin coat. Its a little pricey but nothing else ever worked! Good luck
Hello G.,
I used Lanolin around their mouths at times like that. It wasn't a cure for the rash but it would protect and soothe the area around the mouth from getting worse and it is 100% natural. It is what they recommend for nursing mothers to help soothe sore nipples and is okay for baby to nurse when applied.
Good luck.
Warm Regards,
M. C
Try Eucerin, a thick cream. Or Aquafor, a gel, also made by Eucerin. There is a generic Eucerin sold by Walmart under its Equate brand name. It is fragrance-free, works as well as the obrand-name and is a lot less expensive. We use it on all three of our duaghter's faces and hands esepcially during the dry, cold Vermont winters.
If you are reticent about using a "commercial" brand, try EVening Primrose Oil, which you can get at a co-op or healthfood store. There also are other creams available.
In the end, what you want is a good, thcik barrier that the drool itself will not wash away.
And this, too, shall pass!
My daughter had a similar problem when she was a baby. We just used a small amount of Petroleum jelly or Aquaphor on her cheeks and made sure it was rubbed in well. This worked to protect the area from the excessive drooling.
Hi G.!
My littel one went through the same thing. We were going through 5 bibs a day...he would soak right through them!! Sometimes we even needed to change his shirt! :)
He was a preemie and in order to bring him home there were many products in our home we had to get rid of do to the toxins and chemicals in them and their effects on people..even more so children. Since then we went green, basically switched stores, save time and money and I have been able to work from hom, stay home with my two boys, and have replaced my income. We have a product that will help. I have taken adults & children off of steriod creams for thngs like these rashes, ezcema, psoriasis, rosacea and other skin aliments. Our product is 7X more effective than the leading dermotalogist brand eucerin. I would love to get you the info on our products or even if you interetsed in making some income from home I have been able to help other SAHM do the same. As moms it's important to know the risks and dangers out there in our daily use of products. My WAHM website is: www.succesfulmoms.net and my go green products are www.livewellgogreen.com. Hope this helps. Look forward to helping you out. Thanks! Have a great day! :)

Absolutly agree with everyone. I have a three year old and a six month old with the same rash. My three year old went through it too. Its the age. Almost all babies get this. Wash her mouth with a warm wash cloth, pat dry then apply vaseline. Then just have her wear a bib or keep a burp cloth close by and pat her dry once in a while. The rash may not go away until she's done teething or drooling but it will sooth her..
Yes, you can put Lansinoh (which is lanolin based goopy stuff that has the appearance of Vaseline). That is what mother's who are breastfeeding put on their cracked nipples. Also, I think that just plain Vaseline wouldn't hurt either.
