I have a slimming mirror in my house! It's like magic. I look slim and beautiful in it. It's worth so much more than the $50 I paid for it!
So, when dressing rooms have lighting and mirrors that make you look like an odious hobgoblin (unless it's all the "outside world" mirrors that are deceptive), what is their goal? To have you purchase their merchandise, or to have you drop the merchandise on the floor and cry your eyes out?
I mean, you'd think they'd have slimming mirrors and flattering light in there so you'd feel awesome and buy more stuff, yet I've been in so many dressing rooms where you can see fat dimples in place that can't even possibly have fat dimples (forehead?)
What's up with that?
@ momwithcamera...no thanks-it's actually best for my budget that I get the heck outta there fast :) I really do drop the merch and run usually
:)
@AV, if you look great under that lighting, you should feel mah-velous!!!

They would make SO much more money if they had the slimming mirrors!
And the lighting--is that the goal or is t a sad side effect? I cannot imagine retail planning could be (by accident) so poor for an area as important as the dressing room, can you? So, that would lead me to believe it's on purpose. Maybe the clothes you come in with look extra crappy so you get determined to pitch all of your old stuff out?
And, if I may add, is bathing suit shopping not the worst experience in the world? I always thought it was because of extra pounds but I accompanied my stick thing friend 3 years ago and she looked HORRIBLE in everything! Who, exactly, LOOKS GOOD I wonder?
It's catalog ordering from Land's End for me. At least I might have a fighting chance trying something on in my own bedroom!
LOL -- Fat dimples on the forehead!
I never thought about that but you are right they need those slimming mirrors. I need one in my house too!
I was in one that had the full half room of mirrors and those bright as daylight mirrors. I did cry once I got out of there (with nothing purchased). It was not long after my third was born and I was having trouble finding anything to fit the post baby body I had that wasn't my maternity pants still. I wanted out of those maternity pants and was willing to go up a size or 2 in order to do it but this one store did nothing for me and the dressing room made it worse. It was horrible.
I've been in several since that just give me the heebie jeebies when I see myself.
Isn't that funny. Target has those terrible dressing room mirrors that pick up every dimple and bag. Then there's the bathing suit shop that I sometimes drop into ... I don't know what it is, but the mirrors there make you want to buy those darned suits. Strange!
I've wondered that too.
It depends on the store. If the lighting is only overhead, you will pick up shadows and see the flaws.
If there are vertical light bars, the light will fill and you will not have shadowing. You will look great.
Call ahead of time and ask about their fitting rooms, hehe.
I would rather look great under bad lighting than good under optimal lighting. I'm not going to be walking around under ideal conditions, so if I look good under less than ideal, I should look mah-velous under normal circumstances. ;)
