Has anyone used this dentist? I have to make an appt with him for my 2 year old daughter as she is due for her first check up. Any info would be great. Also what do they do during the first check up and any tips on how to prepare my daughter for some strange man wanting to look in her mouth would be great. :) Thanks again moms. :)

Hi A.!
I am sorry I don't know anything about that dentist but I was going to tell you about the first appt. They will not do much at all since she is only two. I am a cetified Dental Assistant, just choose to stay home with my 5 year old now. I took him for his first appt at 4. They did xrays, checked his teeth and polished them and that was it. Some places call there first appt a Happy Visit because it is just to get them use to it and see the instruments. At the age of two if she is having no problems that you know of they probably won't even do xrays they will just show her the polishing instrument and polish what teeth she has if she lets them. Check around diffent places and make sure it is a peds dentist, that way you know it is a doctor that works with kids all the time. They know how to build up a relationship with the child before ever putting anything in their mouth. I waited until my little guy was 4 for his first appt because I knew there was no way he would sit still at 2 and let anyone in his mouth. Also when you are calling around find out at what age they start visiting the dentist. You don't want to take her when she is not ready and then you have a hard time taking her back. Brush her teeth and look at them on a regular basis so she will get use to her teeth being looked at. My little one got use to me doing that to him. When I was in school for dental assisting I would study his teeth! Sorry to make this so long for you just want to make you feel more comfortable about it. If you have any questions feel free to message me!

Both of my children have been a patient of his. They are now 11 & 15. No real issues other than his bedside manner and the idea that I am 38 and was also a patient of his as a preteen girl. You probably wont even actually see him but rather one of his assistants. N.

Yes, I Took my child there. To tell you the truth I wasn't impressed. Try Hometown Dental. They have locatins in Lake Worth which is new or Fort Worth. They are a family dentistry and have good cash prices. They also take medicaid if you have that insurance. I didn't like Dr Kouri too much.

A., My daughter saw Kouri when we lived in Fort Worth he also has an office in South Lake so when we moved to Keller we saw him once. He is really rough with the kids and as the other ladies have said they dont want you to go back with the kids. I put my foot down and did go back with her but they were not happy. I would not recomend him we also had tons of problems with them billing our insurance correctly. If I were you I would probably try a different dentist.

I had a Dr. Kouri when I was a kid (I'm 36) in west Ft. Worth, so he'd be probably in his 60's now? And if it's the same guy & he hasn't changed any, I'd steer clear. I saw "Dr. Kouri" in a strip on S'Lake Blvd. recently, but I don't know if it my guy or not. In the 1970's & 80's, he was just plain mean! I'd look for a dentist that advertises "gentle dentistry" & give them a try- esp. for kids. Man! I was traumatized by that guy..of course I spent a lot of time in his chair over my elem/ middle school years. But it has taken a wonderful, gentle, patient dentist (Dr. Pruitt in E. Ft. Worth) to get me over my fear of the dentist's chair!

Ummm- Good Luck!
D. ;)

I'm sure Dr. Kouri is a good dentist for some, but my children will never go to him again. At the first appt. they have you fill out the paperwork and when it is time for your child to go back there, they make you stay in the waiting area. I asked to meet the dentist doing her check up and was informed that was not customary. When they finished the check up they brought me back to the office, they informed me that her tooth decay was due to eating too much sugar, which wasn't true because my children are not allowed to have sugar. When I told them that she had chipped her tooth and the decay hadn't started until after that, they told me it wasn't possible. But the receptionist told me the same thing happened to her son and it is possible. Also, my daughter had to have dental surgery. They were going to preform the surgery in office. The day I took her in to have it done, of course at 4 any child is going to be scared to have anything done and when my daughter showed that she was scared when they were going to take her back, I asked to speak with Kouri, they wouldn't let me. When it was time to weigh her, she hid behind me and one of the ladies told my daughter to stop acting like a baby and let go of me. I was very angry at this point and told the woman that she was being disrespectful, rude and unprofessional to my daughter. They acted like I was the one being rude for saying something. I could go on, but I won't. I suggest you seek out another dentist, one that will introduce themselves to before they do a check up and not send out one of their assistants.
