Dr. Gwen Webster

I switched to Dr. Webster at the beginning of my second trimester. I find her very competent and I trust her a lot with my delivery.

BUT I was wondering if its normal to feel really rushed during her visits. She literally is in the room less than 90 seconds. She does ask how everything is going but it feels rushed and its done while she is measuring my stomach and checking the heartbeat.

I was just wondering if anyone else who saw her felt that way? I don't want to switch doctors again now that I am in my 3rd trimester and I really do feel like she is a great doctor. I just get frustrated when I see her for one minute during my appointments.

Thanks in advance

What can I do next?

Dr. Jaffee & Dr. Webster did my C-Section. They were fantastic. I think it's a good sign if things go that fast. If there were anything to discss with you she would. Congrats on the baby :)

Her partner (Dr. Jaffe) was actually my doctor, so I didn't have but 1 office visit with Dr. Webster when my Dr. was out of town. She ended up delivering my son on that day January 3 and she was great. She is very competent. If found that Dr. Jaffe was the same way and that they are just really busy. I'm sure they would devote more time if it were necessary. Write me if you have any specific questions or concerns.

I think that is pretty common for 3rd trimester appointments. I don't know that dr., but I remember feeling that way with boy my boys in the 3rd trimester. As long as your feeling fine and your blood pressure is OK, there is not much to do but wait!!

Hi C.,

Dr. Webster is my OB/GYN as well. I have been seeing her for about 5 years now. She does get a little rushed in her appointments, but if you just tell her what your concerns are, she will listen and take care of those for you. She delivered both of my babies and I trust her completely. I know that she may have rushed me a little at my appointments, but all in all I would rather have a competent doctor that knows how to help me have a healthy body and deliver healthy babies. I think you should just stick with her, she will take awesome care of you!!

In Him,
Robyn

Just an FYI... my sister works for 4 OB/GYN dr's. Their schedules are so booked that they kinda have to run thru their patients. They & I am sure your DR. is the same....but they are always willing to stop & answer any questions that you have.
If I am not mistaken my sisters dr's all have 2 patients per 15 minutes.... so imagine if they stopped to chit/chat with everyone they couldn't finish 1/2 of their appts. This does not in any way mean that they don't have time for you. Remember there is always cancellations & then those who have no questions. If you are comfortable w/your Dr & the office staff then stick with them... it really sucks to change Dr's during pregnancy!

I was a patient of hers a while back and it was while I was trying to get pregnant and I also felt the same way...even though it was a non-pregnant visit. That was why I left and never went back. Sorry! I hope maybe it changes...but I would mention it to her....

Hi C., I see Dr. Webster also and have had your same experience with both of my pregnancies. I asked her one time flat out why it seeems so short and she explained what the appts were for (pee in the cup, blood pressure, weight, heartbeat, measure and that's all) and that anytime I have questions always ask. My friends have relayed to me that their doctors are the same during these appts so I stopped taking it personally against her or myself. If you have questions make a list ahead of time and then pull it out and ask them. That is what I have done several times and she is very good about waiting till I say I am done before moving on. If you don't speak up and ask she assumes you are doing as you say, fine and there really isn't anything else to cover. I understand right now it seems pointless to go and they are quicky visits but count that as a blessing that there isn't a reason to have to stay longer b/c everything is fine and she is not concerned about anything so you shouldn't be either.

What else do you want her to do? What are you expecting at these appts? Tell her what you expect. If there's something really bothering you, tell her.... she can't read minds.
The last trimester appts are the most frequent and really there's not much more to do other than what's she's doing now - measuring, checking heart rate, and asking how you're feeling. If you want her to do something else, ask her.

But as I see it, these doctors don't have much time to sit down and chit chat about life and pregnancy. They are constantly on the go...switching back and forth from the office to the hospital for surgeries (some unexpected emergency surgeries) and deliveries....and then finding time to spend with their own family. So I don't expect my doctor to spend a huge amnt of time with me when it's a routine little appt and nothing much has changed since my last visit..and i don't have any concerns.

Yes, I experienced the same thing. I almost changed doctors but didn't want to deal with finding another doctor. I delivered when she was on vacation so her partner was the one who delivered my baby. Her partner was nice. I had retained placenta. A month later they discovered a piece was left behind so I ended up having a D&C. Dr. Webster was very nice when she told me about having to do a D&C and every follow-up appt since then I have never felt rushed. From then on, she has been very pleasant.
