Dr Brown's Bottles and BPA... Help! :)

I want to switch to BPA free bottles, but my baby loves the dr. brown's bottles. Has anyone tried putting the dr. brown's nipple and straw/vent thing in another bottle? I'm crossing my fingers!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I bought the evenflow "bpa free" plastic bottles at target ($2.99 for three!!), and used all the dr. brown parts (other than the outer bottle), and it seems to work. May leak a TAD more than the dr. brown's - but very manageable. I may try the dr. brown glass. The dr. brown nipples won't work on medela bottles (fyi). I'm really hoping Kyle will be one of those kids to drop the bottle at 12 months and use a sippy cup (keeping my fingers crossed).

My daughter loves the Dr. Brown's bottles, but I bought the born free bottles after and they were AWFUL, so we then had to buy the wide-neck inserts/nipples to fit the Born Free bottles and that was much better... So, only the wide necks fit since that is all Born Free comes in... BUT Dr. Brown's now has BPA-free standard plastic polypropolene bottles so we just bought those and I am happy to be back to the good ole Dr. Brown's bottles and my daughter is as well! : ) Good luck!

Have you tried the Dr. Brown's glass bottles? I think they use the same inserts as the plastic Dr. Brown's. We use the plastic ones too, and will be switching over to the glass ones when she weans from breastfeeding.

Hi K.,I am going threw the same dilema,my son is 11months and used dr.brown bottles too!!I have great news for you,Green to Grow bottles take dr.browns nipples!!!!!The bottle dont need the vent thing,BUT...i do find that the nipple collapes so i just take it out of his mouth once during a feeding(or he does!)now, the only thing i worried about was air/gas but he has been fine since the switch and its been about a month!!The bottles come in 4 and 10 oz. If you order on line-make sure you specify wide neck or standard neck, let me know how you make out,if you have any other questions feel free!!oh-not sure if your babe uses a sippy cup,but i got my guy born-free sippy cup,he does well w/it!!good luck!!

Hello,
I just recieved a flyer from Babies r us and it says in the flyer that they now have Dr Browns BPA free bottles and glass bottles on sale. I've used Dr Browns with all 3 of my kids and you can use other bottles just use the inside parts and the part that the nipple goes into that screws on b/c it is larger to hold the insert.

Hi K.,

We use glass bottles, so I totally understand your concerns!

We actually have a couple of Dr. Brown's nipples & they are compatible with the Born Free brand bottles we use. Not sure about the air flow system, but Born Free has a really nice setup too.

Hope this helped!

Dr. Brown's BPA Plastic Bottles are now for sale at Babies R Us. You can see them online at www.babiesrus.com. They are 3 in a pack for $12.99. Same bottle but BPA Free Plastic not the heavy glass ones. It's called Polypropolene?

We use Dr. Brown's glass bottles. They're a little more expensive, but if you're worried about the BPA issue they're probably your best bet.

I know alot of moms won't agree with me, but if you go to the FDA website and look up info about bottles with BPA, you may not feel like you need to switch at all. I have a 10 month old and haven't decided yet if there is a real risk. I've read that we are exposed to more chemicals and hormones in our food. Good luck with your search.

Yes I did! Won't work, sorry to burst your bubble. My son still loves the Dr. Brown's bottles. I have also heard from others that once you give your baby the Dr. Brown's bottles they won't take any other bottle. I put it to the test and they were right! Your stuck, but you know what too many people are worrying about the whole plastic thing and I too got panicked!
Relax and don't worry your child will be fine. There is no proof yet that it can cause harm and after all we are all fine and our parents used plastic bottle, pacifiers ect.
I asked my sons pedi and he told me to not worry and again no proof of causing harm.

Oh I just read Cathy H post. Yes! I am so happy to hear that. I am not one to worry like everyone else as I said but better safe than sorry. I am due in October and now I can get the new BPA free Dr. Brown's bottles.

I have learned, through the nice ladies at my daughter's day care, that the Dr. Brown's bottle fits the Medela nipples. Which makes me think that the Medela bottles (BPA free) would fit the Dr. Brown's nipple. There is no way the Medela bottles would fit the Dr. Brown's straw/vent thing, but could it be put in without the vent thingie? It is possible (at Target, and perhaps elsewhere) to buy single Medela bottles for experimenting.
Good luck,

Jay

Hi,
My daughter loved her Dr Brown's bottles but because of the BPA I switched to Born Free bottles which has the same vent system but it's a much smaller vent.(Dr Brown's also makes glass bottles but I don't know if the parts are plastic or silicone.) She loved them. I also switched her sippy cups over to Foogo by Thermos, the stainless steel sippy cup and straw cup, and I was worried she wouldn't drink out of them but she loves them and we don't need to worry about BPA.Good luck.
