I had the exact same thing happen, I can't remember what my numbers were exactly, I think 3.4 or 3.5 but high enough that it was outside of the normal range. We originally were going to do a CVS as well, but then opted to wait a couple more weeks and do an Amnio, since that could test for more than the CVS, and I think the risk might be a little less The doctor was fabulous and then amnio wasn't painful at all. We got a rapid screen done with the amnio, which means you get some preliminary results back within a few days, and then the rest of the results later, but everything turned out great, no Downs, or any other genetic abnormality and I have a happy helathy almost 2 year old. I know this can be frightening, but remember the chance that there is nothing wrong is much greater than the chance that there is, and my thought was I'd rather know ahead of time, so I could prepare if we had a child who needed some extra care.
