Double Stroller or Not?

I'm pregnant with my second child and my first daughter will be 2 years and 2 months old when her brother/sister arrives. I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy a double stroller for them. What does everyone think? Did you get one? Did you use it enough for it to be worth it? What brands are good. If I get one, I'll probably want one that has the seat where the infant carseat (I have a Graco one) fits right into it if possible.

What can I do next?

I loved mine!! I have a 7 year old and a almost 4 year old and I wish I did not have to give mine to my in-laws for their new baby twins. That was the deal when my mother-in-law bought it for us! I love having it just in case and for the malls and going with friends! However, since you are not due until April I would wait for the garage sales!! They are all over if you look right away! There is nothing wrong with them...I bought 3 when I was doing daycare!

Good Luck!

We love our stroller. When we had our first daughter, who is now nearly 23 months, we bought the Bugaboo Gecko. It has served us well, being easy to fold/unfold and steer on a variety of terrain. We've got another daughter, who is one month old now, and the stroller still works perfectly. Before our second daughter was born, we bought the skateboard attachment for our older daughter to stand on. The stroller isn't bulky, operates the same and looks great. They make little attachments so you can easily pop your Graco car seat on. We bought the attachments for our Peg Perego car seat and it's worked brilliantly both times. Every time I am out with friends who have or have had kids, they marvel at how easy my stroller is.

My children are two years apart as well (they're 5 and 7 now), and I would not have been able to survive without my double stroller when they were little. I used it everywhere we went for over a year. It made my life a lot easier - much easier than chasing a 2-year old through the Mall of America! We had a Graco one, which was nice, because the rear seat sat a little higher than the front one so the one in back could see over the other one. They have improved a lot in 5 years from what I have seen, but I would highly recommend getting one.

Yes, They are a Godsend. The Mother of Twins clubs in the area have equipment and clothing sales twice a year. There are usually used double strollers at each of these sales. There is one in March or April at the Maple Grove Junior High. Last fall 76 families were selling their "stuff" for garage sale prices. Well worth the saturday morning excursion.

I would not get one..do you have a single stroller? I would suggest getting a Maya Wrap or a Mei Tei. For the first year of your little ones life, it's wonderful to be snug against your mommy, especially when they are newborn. The wraps are easy to wear and easy to use and very comfortable. That way if you took the kids for a walk you could push the older one and have the little one attached to you! Check out this site, there are some wonderful wraps and slings.. http://www.theslingstation.com/moby.html

My boys are 20 months apart and are now 4 and 5 years old. We have really used our stroller a lot! We still sometimes use it for both of them when we are going somewhere where we will be doing a lot of walking(state fair, Mall of America...) We have the Graco Duo Glider and love it. It sure has been through a lot with us.

We bought one (Evenflo)and I am glad we did not spend a lot of money. We used the double stroller until my 2nd was about 11 mo. old. Now we use the umbrella stroller for my 2nd and my first just walks. I love the Graco stroller system we have and had high expectations of the double stroller. Be prepared that it is heavier and not the same.

In general. I guess it is worth it but I might suggest looking at places like Once Upon a Child and pay less. I hear from others with more than onechild who LOVE the double stroller.
Another thought: I'd get one that is back to back (not side to side) as many places and doors aren't made for side-by-side strollers.

Good luck!

Once my daughter turned 2-we almost NEVER used the stroller-only when her dad took her on bus trips for fun. I see the same pattern emerging with my son-he's 18 months and we almost never use it for him, either. So, we didn't think a double stroller was necessary-seemed like a pain to cart around. You can wear the baby for months...and by the time s/he's done with that, your older child likely won't want to be in a stroller.

This is just us, though, maybe...I feel like kids should get exercise whenever possible...and can't believe it when I see HUGE kids that should be totally fine walking just sitting in the stroller.

I have 3 kids who are all two years apart. I went through the same debate you are going through right now, but more so when we were pregnant with the 3rd one. I ended up getting a double stroller from a neighbor who was ready to get rid of hers, and I'm very glad I went that route. We haven't used it much, but it has come in handy a few times, so the free one was worth accepting in my case.

My sister just got a Buggyboard that attaches to her stroller. Her kids are a bit older, but my 2 year old used it some and loved it. I think she got it from one step ahead, but I'm not sure. If you really want a double, I'd check out craigslist. I don't know about you, but I don't use the stroller often enough now to want a double when our 2nd arrives in July. Good luck!

My boys are about the same years apart as your girls will be. I thought I would use the dbl stroller a lot but it really never happened. I did use it sometimes, in fact I used it more once my youngest could walk. So while I think it is a nice option to have, they are extremely expensive for the amount you use them.

On a side note...my boys are now almost 2 and four and I really do not need my double stroller. If you would like a gently used one I am sure we could work something out. I have a Graco duo-glider that is 2 years old but like I said...not used very much. It has a green plaid gender neutral design.

My email is ____@____.com

I live in Fridley which is not horrible far from Maple Grove. Just want to give you some options. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

I have twins and use the Duo Glide from Graco. If you are not sure you need a double stroller and don't want to spend that...I notice them on Craig's List often. I guess it is long, but of course I am use to it. Be aware it takes up more room in a trunk, etc. My neighbor has the sit and stand mentioned in another post and really likes it for her two kids.

We have a sit n stand from Target. It's bulky when folded but I do like it for trips to the zoo and the like. My older daughters can hop on and off as they please, it's not quite as big as a traditional double stroller, and I can put the infant car seat in if needed. The one from Target has a parent cupholder which I also really like. I also have a double burley bike trailer that doubles as a stroller and I love it for walks in the neighborhood. Light and easy to push and turn. I don't use strollers all that often, but they are nice to have sometimes.
