Double Stroller - Racine,WI

We are having baby #2 in February and will need a double stroller. I was hoping to buy a Chicco brand because that is what we have a car seat for and the single stroller. However, it doesn't looki like Chicco makes a double where you can fit the car seat in.

Wondering what a good not crazy expensive alternative is-not relishing the idea of spending another $300 on a travel system since we have a car seat that by the time the baby is born will only be 2 years old, but whatcha gonna do...

What can I do next?

We have a Graco double stroller and it works great. I love it. The only challenge that we have with it is the front canopy can be a challenge to adjust.

Craigslist! I've been searching for "double stroller" and "sit and stand stroller" for a long time now, and there's TONS. The only thing that took me so long to buy was finding a sit and stand stroller for less than $30. I had just about given up on the idea, when I found one for $20. It's in great shape (little wash-up and it looks brand new). You will find a LOT of strollers on there in the Twin Cities area. You could even specify Chicco and see what they come up with. Either way, people put really nice strollers on there for half of what you'd pay new
Good luck!

Hi C.- I also strongly recommend the sit and stand plus lx. We have that for my 19 month old and 3 month old boys and I LOVE IT!!. It folds up really nice and I can fit it the trunk if my car easier then the Graco stroller we had when we just had one. It is also so easy to push and turn. I think we paid $160 for ours on Target.com. This is a lot cheaper then some of them that our out there and smaller then some of them I have seen as well. You will not regert getting this one. Just make sure it is the one that has the full two seats. We put the little one in back as it still fits snug enogugh for the car seat not to move and the older one sits in front so he can see everything. You will be really happy with this stroller!

Having driven my husband crazy buying 2 double strollers and being unhappy with both of them for practicality reasons, I can tell you that I WISH I had just bought a sit and stand stroller to begin with. The conventional stroller seat will hold almost all carseats (though we also had a Chicco and it did pose some problems fitting in shopping carts and other double strollers securely) and they have a jumpseat on the back so a toddler/preschooler can stand or sit if he is tired. From the research I have done it seems like Joovy and One Step Ahead make the smoothest rides. I think they are both under $200 if I remember correctly. My daughter was not quite 2 1/2 when our son was born, and only sat in the double for a couple of months. Now, she wants to walk on her own everywhere and the second seat stays empty (or carries her baby doll). I have heard similar stories from others. If you want a used one, I have one I am happy to sell cheap!

Baby Trend Sit n Stand... but get the latest version that you can put the CAR SEAT in the front or the back because sometimes your 2 year old might want to have full view of everything and not just the car seat in front of her. I have a couple friends that have this stroller and they LOVE IT. Works with the Chicco seats as well.

Good luck!

C.,

Congratulations on baby #2.
I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 month old. I was in desperate need of a good double stroller so I researched the options well. I have a Graco travel system and loved it and was bummed to find out that they didn't have a good double stroller. I discovered the Baby Trend Sit-n-Stand Deluxe. It comes with two seats like a traditional double stroller. However the neat thing is that the back seat comes off and becomes the sit-n-stand piece for your older one. There is an attachment for the car seat that snaps in the front which will hold almost all brands. I found that I didn't need it because the back seat folds down so far that he could lay there with no problems. The front seat is perfect for my busy girl that wants to be able to see everything. It is very easy for her to get in and out. There are two child trays that snap on so you don't have to have them on if you don't want. Both seats have large canapies that are detachable. Once I knew what I wanted I had to find the best deal. I found www.strollerdepot.com. They were a few dollars cheaper but had free shipping and handeling which saved me a lot. I got it within a week and I was more than impressed with it. It needs some assembly but I did it without the need of my husbands assistance.

Baby's R Us has the regular sit-n-stand if you want to look at the design before purchasing.

Good luck!

If your older child is an active one, try a Baby Trend Sit n' Stand. It allows for one carseat to snap in (most any brands fit), which also becomes a regular seat once you no longer use the carrier car seat, and an older child to sit/stand in back. It works well for my infant and two year old. It was about $120, I believe.

(So much for our almost-new single stroller, hey?! Why didn't we think about future children when buying the first stroller??)

We bought a double stroller recently as we have a 5 month old, a 20 month old and a 4-1/2 year old. I did a ton of research and read reviews. We ended up choosing the Kolcraft Contours Options Tandem Plus Stroller.

http://www.amazon.com/Kolcraft-Contours-Options-Tandem-St...

It had a ton of options, allows us to change the seating directions to face us, face each other, or face out, and had the optional car seat attachment that we bought so we could keep the baby in her car carrier and just attach that to the stroller. We have had a lot of comments on it when we have been out with it and we love it. It runs about $230 on Amazon and more like $250-$280 in a store. But I registered for a baby registry at babies r us, but it on the registry, then after the baby is born, they give you 10% off all remaining items on the registry plus I added a 15% off one item coupon for a total of 25% off the stroller, so it cost me about $160.
We love it!

I'd hold out a little longer. One of my friends who just had #2 and has a Chicco carseat said she contacted the company, and they are coming out with a double stroller. She was told that it would be out in "the fall," but was given no more specific information. It's too late for my friend who would have needed it a few months ago, but hopefully for your sake it's true and will be out in time for your new addition.

Hi C.,
I was in the exact same situation! We bought the Chicco travel system for my first child and loved it, but no they don't make a double stroller. However, there are a lot of different double strollers out there that accommodate a car seat. We finally decided on the Baby Trend Sit and Stand stroller. It works really well. I can put the car seat for my 3 month old daughter in front and my 19 month old son can sit or stand in the back. It is really lightweight and easy set up. The car seat doesn't not click in place like the Chicco stroller does, but it fits snugly and has a seatbelt strap that keeps it very secure. We got it at Babies R Us for around $120. Hope this helps and congrats on your new arrival!!

Just a suggestion, but you may want to check out the Sit-N-Stands by Baby Trend. Their website shows them all in detail, but I just ordered one from Wal-Mart.com. They come with 2 seats, one behind the other with the back one slightly higher, and they are compatible with almost all brands of carriers. Then when the older one is big enough you can remove the back seat and it converts to the option of sitting with a buckle or standing while riding. It gives the older one a little more freedom since they are getting to the age where they are constantly in and out of the stroller and walking more than riding. Just an idea.

We just bought the Baby Trend Sit-n-Stand Plus; LOVE! It can be used 4 different ways. It accomadates a carrier in front (even Chicco!)with toddler facing forward in back, then with both older baby and toddler sitting forward, then rear seat removes so toddler can sit facing rear, THEN remove whole seat so toddler can stand. We are just now using it with carrier and toddler facing forward but so far it is awesome. It has two canopies, a parent tray, front tray and foot rest, and storgage basket. I found ours at Shopko for $159.99 on sale, reg. $169.99. It folds up fairly compact for a double and is very easy to manuever. Go to www.babyage.com to take a look!

Hi C.---I was in the same boat and did not want to spend a lot of money on a double stroller just because it would hold a car seat. Believe it or not my mother was at Wal-Mart and found a double stroller and got it for me. It is an Evenflo brand and it is a front-to-back double stroller, not side by side. It will hold just about any carseat brand because it sits in the back seat of the stroller and the stroller has straps that straps the carseat into it. Best of all it was only $87.00 I believe and I love it. It is sturdy and durable. It has worked great for both of my kids and would recommend it. The only thing is that I got it about 1 1/2 yrs ago, so I am not sure if they still have it but I would definately check it out!!--in store Wal-Mart.

One stroller that I looked into was the Sit-N-Stand pro lx, I think that's the full name of it. Anyway, it starts as a two seater, front and back, and the back can lay down fully to accomedate an infant and then when the infant is old enough to sit in the front, the back seat comes off and becomes a platform for the older one. It runs around $210 or so, I wasn't able to find it in my area, so shipping may be up it too.

I also really liked the Kolcraft Contours, but it was a bit more expensive and the stroller itself was almost 50 pounds! I also heard from other moms that it was tough to get into lots of vehicles, so you'd have to check the store model if it fit in you car.

Good luck!

We purchased the Kolcraft Contours Options Tandem stroller (you can find it at http://www.kolcraft.com/product.aspx?id=149&shopby=ca.... Same sort of situation. Our infant seat that we had for our first, who will be 18 months when his little brother is born in September, is still in great shape. The problem is that it is an Evenflo carseat ant they don't make a good double stroller. The Kolcraft stroller is only $220 and is sold at Babies R Us...you can even get a 15% off coupon if you sign up for their emails (they send coupons all the time). This stroller comes with a universal carseat attachment. Plus, the stroller seats can be adjusted to face backwards, frontwards or any combination of that. And..the stroller has a very heavy duty construction similar to a jogging stroller. My husband has already used it with our son to go jogging, walk on trails, etc. It doesn't "shake" like the normal everyday stroller would. There is also a big basket underneath to store all of your mommy stuff. It is a bit heavier than a traditional single stroller...but for a double stroller what do you expect?!?! I can still lift it just fine at 7 1/2 months pregant (and I definitely don't work out). There are a couple of ways to fold it down to get it more compact. It fits in the trunk of our Camry with plenty of room to spare for groceries, suitcase, etc. Good luck!

My guess is that this is not the "official" advice that the docs or the experts would give...but...with #1, we used the carseat/stroller combo quite a bit, until he was quite old. With #2...pretty much by the time I felt like getting out and about enough to take a real walk or go to the mall just for the heck of it (maybe 4 weeks?), I just used a regular stroller with a fully reclinable seat and a 5 point harness. I am definitely the sort of mom to go out right away, but when baby was under four weeks, we used a Baby Bjorn, or just carried him in the carseat (like to church) or just carried him. My advice, then, would be to keep your travel system for those times when baby is really little or you have more "going" to do when baby is tiny, but that a regular double stroller with a good recline and a good harness would probably be fine fairly quickly. Also, many of my friends have the Sit N Stand; the sit part works pretty well; my five year old can mostly fit on it, and he's a big kid, but so can my 21 month old. And it's nice for kids who like to run, then ride, then run, then ride...then run...then ride...like my 21 month old!
