T.S.
Aw, sorry :(
Also never put put a pyrex baking dish under the broiler. Just because it's oven proof doesn't mean it's broiler proof, it will explode!!!
I learned the hard way, just like you :)
Apparently the new "non-stick" has some type of Teflon sprayed on it, which melts (the Teflon) and causes the aluminum foil to stick to the bottom of the oven.
It won't come off, as the solution is to simply replace the bottom plate.
This has been an announcement from the department of "learning from the mistakes of others".
Sigh.
S'ok. Life is pretty awesome with my new house, new baby and now a new bottom cover in my oven. :)
Anyone else's life this great? :)

well, sorry you had to find out the hard way, but this is good info.
I often put foil on the bottom of my oven. I've only bought that non stick kind once, it's pretty pricey and the thought of it being treated with yet another weird chemical to prevent stuff from sticking sort of kept me from buying another roll.
Thanks for sharing. I will pass this revelation on to my friends and family.
Thanks for the info, but as I tell my husband we only have a kitchen because it came with the house. My stove makes the perfect pizza box holder, LOL.
Ouch! Thanks for that update!
I have a GE Profile we put in when we built 12 yrs ago. I learned from experience, and my neighbors did too, that if you use the self clean cycle you may burn your house down.
I wasn't the only one who had to call 911!!! Numerous neibors had to and we were told to never use the self clean cycle again.
Of GE course, claimed it wasn't their fault.
Thank you for this information.
Everything fine over here except that the molds have never been as high, I had to pull over to the side of the road, because i could not stop sneezing.. This has been going on since the glorious rain this weekend. (we do not complain about rain)..
Daughter is enjoying her job, came home last night with about 6 crazy incidents that happened yesterday. We all laughed so hard we were crying and our sides hurt!
We are very fortunate.
Jo W, I see a side business in my future....
Dad, life is good. God has recently shown proof to my wife and I.
I didn't even know there was such a thing as "non-stick" foil... Interesting.
of course it is. got an offer on our house. the buyer needs to wrap up asap, and we have nowhere to go :)
told my husband open up a map and choose a country, because i don't see how we will decide where to go since we haven't for the last 6 months.
then again, i think back, and remember, this isn't one of the hardest times i have gone through and this too shall pass. so we are taking a road trip tomorrow. where? you guessed it. we don't know. we just want to be open and spontaneous and maybe we will come to some important decisions. life is good. it can be better.
This is not my favorite day, or week, or maybe month.
My three girls are back to school in one week. One. Week. I almost don't mind being so sick that I had to drag myself to the doctor this morning. Double ear infection, throat infection, sinus infection, UTI. Hubby still out of work and punctuated by getting a rejection letter from one of his interviews. The doctor's scale disagrees with my scale. I like my scale better.
I have a litany of complaints today but I'm so sick and tired I can't remember most of them. :-) It doesn't matter anyway because the kids are going back to school in one week.
EDIT: I have a fricking gas oven, and it doesn't have a self-cleaner. I use my trusty Shark steam cleaner that gets EVERYTHING.
Yeppers!! Life is good. I've lost a good friend, but I have great memories with him!! I've got a loving husband, two kids that drive me insane! A daughter who is grown and on her own...a roof over my head, clothes on my back and I've found out who my true friends are over the past year!!!
I got a new oven two years ago when my sister tried to burn my house down!! LOL!!! The manual recommended the Betty Crocker oven liner...it's been GREAT!!!
Thanks for the tip!
Thank you, Department of Learning. Here's my tip - if you hurt your back leaning over to answer the phone because it's sitting in the floor, you can "make" a heating pad by putting rice in a sock, tying the end of it and sticking it, tied end first, into another sock, and then microwaving the whole thing.
Next stop for me, the bed and my sock...!
Glad that all is well for you outside of the oven!!
Dawn
THANK you SO much for this tip!
So glad I know this now.
This is a must know!
Congrats on the new baby and new house!
Things are looking up.
Kids are all in school.
No one is sick.
My hubby just got his paycheck (one week late!)
Yes, it's looking a bit brighter over here.
Let's see...
House? Check.
Job & medical insurance? Check.
Healthy family? Check?
Food? Check.
Cars? Check.
Great friends? Check.
I'd say I'm probably better off than a lot people and for that I am thankful.
Poor dad! Its OK, I had to tear my oven apart to clean it this summer. I baked something raspberry rhubarb, and having rarely used rhubarb I was not prepared for the out of control dripping... it was like a lava eruption in my oven. I had to dismantle the whole bottom of the oven to clean it out.
The raspberry rhubarb bars were sublime though so it was all worth it believe it or not. Next time I make them I'll line the oven with foil...NOT nonstick though!
Yeah life is good. Congrats on the baby!
awesome :) baby boy just started kindergarten this week, and i have also relocated our entire department at work, as well as trained 11 new hires, with 1 more slated to come in tomorrow. life is awesome. gosh, and i almost mean it! lol
Ummm...not that we should stop to read the box of aluminum foil, but what does the box say?
Great life! Kids started school today, and I can finally scrub my house after a long, dirty summer. haha! Doesn't sound great, but I am excited!?! :)
Put a cookie sheet under dishes that drip while baking. It will catch the drips and prevent a messy oven. :)
Well, my son (age 20) just had the O2 sensor replaced in his 2002 Daewoo Lanos.... at the cost of about $150......
Drove to work to pick up one of his knives (he is a cook at a small restaurant, and is also going to culinary school)... and his car just quit working!
We went to go get him, and take him an extra car so he could go on to school, and he found out that it was the timing belt..... it shredded on him... (and.. what other kind of damage has it possibly done?)
I have NO idea how much that might end up costing us/him... but frankly, we don't have ANY extra money right now...... not even sure how we're going to get it the 20 miles back to our house.
Just not wanting another financial emergency right now...... he just bought the car in April for about $1600......
Thanks. I just follow the manual for mine. It says plainly, do not put anything on the bottom of the oven.
The heating element is covered and the oven is self-cleaning. So any spills I just wipe up, and then do the self-cleaning mode as needed.
:)
My husband has a love affair with cling wrap. You know that super amazing saran wrap stuff that sticks all on its own brillance? Uh huh. It leaves this amazing residue on your dishes too. He's still using elbow grease and others means to get it off everything it has been applied to. Live and learn. Congratulations on the new baby, new house and new bottom oven cover.
Thank you!, I always learn something in Mamapedia.....sorry..Dadapedia too....
Have a great day!
