-call children's hospital in Mpls., or St.Paul and ask their NICU deptartment if they know where you could donate it. Since they deal with premature infants I'm sure they could take it or know where you could donate it. I think some preemie babies and some babies/children with cancer use donated breastmilk sometimes.
I can't find an email or phone number immediately, but here's the mailing address. (I donated last year and have the Christmas card they sent me.)
University of MN Children's Hospital, Fairview
Milk Bank
2450 Riverside Ave. S. MB449
Minneapolis, MN 55454
You'll reach Mark, Laurie, Casey, or Mary. Just so you know, it's a lot of hassle (a blood test, an application process, etc. ) but it's a great thing to do!
I don't know of any local places to donate breastmilk. I, however, donated to the Mother's Milk Bank in Iowa which is associated with the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Here is the link http://www.uihealthcare.com/depts/uichildrenshospital/mil...
Its a great thing to donate breastmilk, especially to preemies, because it is so much healthier for them than formula.
Good luck,
B.
My niece did it, but she was already in CA, where there is an abundance of places to donate. I wanted to, but just never took the time to research it enough BEFORE I had my baby.
There was a great article in the September 2007 issue of MN Parent magazine (not sure if the local libraries would have a copy still or not) about donating milk. There is a great project that actually sends donated milk to Africa, if you can believe that. Yes, the process to begin donating is intense due to all the tests you have to have; as was said before, it is a bodily fluid etc... Anyway, for more information check out the website BreastMilkProject.org Good luck
