I have been taking domperidone (called motilium overseas where I order it from for much less $$ than you can get it here) for over a year. I took up to 160 mg a day at one point, but now that my baby is over a year I am taking just 30, and she's still nursing happily. I have had no real side effects, and neither have my kids (as far as I can tell). It works like a charm for me--I've had a full milk supply for both of my adopted kids. But I know it doesn't work that well for everyone. Fenugreek is also great. Good luck!

I used Domperidone. My baby had a weak suck and my milk supply was never good. Using the drug, I was able to breastfeed but not without supplementing. It definitely was what kept my milk supply up though. When I stopped taking it, that was it. I know many people breastfeed exclusively using domperidone.

I used it for a little while when I was nursing. It worked great for me for a while. The only side effect I had with it was it made me very very very very (very) tired so I only took it at night and then maybe half in the morning. I couldn't do a whole pill in the AM because I couldn't function so be careful to watch for that. I don't know if I could have nursed my daughter til 15 months if I hadn't taken it. She had actually weened herself at 11 months so that was 6 months of pumping with the help from Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle... but they stopped working for me after a while... then I tried Domperidone and that helped a lot.

Good Luck!

I had real trouble trying to breast feed my first son. He weaned completely at 3 months and it was very hard on me. With my second son 4 years later, I used Domperidone and it was wonderful. No side effects. He loved nursing and did not wean completely till he was much older (over two I think). I had no side effects.

Hi J. -

I had great success with Domperidone. There were a number of circumstances that led me to it, but when I needed it...it worked. I was able to nurse for 6 more months, which was important to me. I didn't have any negative side effects. There is only one pharmacy in town that makes it for nursing moms - over on 41st in Capitola...I can't remember the name right now.

I tried the fenugreek, I tried nursing every hour to increase production, I tried it all - and the domperidone is what finally got me to a point where I could feed Hannah and pump extra so I could go back to work. Good luck to you! I know these decisions are stressful, but you will make a good one for you!

I used it with my first and plan to use it with my second child, but not for Relatcating... I'm not sure how that might differ.
For me, I never experienced the "let down" everyone talks about after my dd was born. It took a couple of weeks to really sink in that everything else I was doing to produce more was just not working. I started taking the Domp. a small dose at a time (but I don't recal exactly how much I ended up taking at the peek, i think it was the highest dose recomended by the site refered to below) and the first week or so I had the world's worst headache, but it did pass. I was told it also has some affects on your GI system, but I never noticed that for me. I do have a friend who took it for her daughter as well and I remember she said she needed to be close to the bathroom within an hour of taking it as it would cause a significant movement every time. (I'm trying not to be too graphic... sorry)
I do want to add a reference I was given. There's a Dr. in Canada that is well known for his lactation consulting. He promotes the use of this when all other methods just arent' enough and has info on his website that was helpful for me to determine how much of the stuff to take. You can also Google his name as he has many published articles. I googled "dr jack newman domperidone" and came up with more than 2000 hits.

I loved it - took it without any problems - just getting the dosage right upfront to get the right level of supply was important, i.e. take x for so many weeks to get your milk up. Ask your pharmacist - I used Lauden Pharmacy in Capitola. Ray is great!

That plus regular pumping will definately increase your supply! even pumping after feedings! Good luck!

I used it for 2 months after a plugged duct made my supply drop. I ended up making more milk than I previously had and ended up with more plugged ducts though. I recommend it, but watch your dosage and take hot showers and massage your breasts to avoid that from happening. They are painful!
Oh - and def. go to the Jack Newman referenced sites. He's the pro on domperidone.
