I have never known a dog that didn't shed - some just shed more than others.
Going off of Mamabearof2's post about shedding dogs and vacuming.... I thought weimeraners did not shed.... Guess you know my issue here! He is shedding all over the place. Granit he doesnt have long enough hair to really show up unless we are giving him a bath or brushing him (he is a priss so he likes his brushing and nail clippings and getting pretty in general) but really! he sheds as much as a lab! Hypoallergenic my ars.
Does your/ or one you know Weimeraner shed? Is he just loosing his puppy fur at 7(almost 8) months?
I have never known a dog that didn't shed - some just shed more than others.
They do shed a little all year long. (All dogs do.) Their shedding isn't significant, and bruising daily helps reduce any shedding. They blow their coats twice a year, to grow new fur. I bet your pup is doing just that.
The one at our bookstore sheds!!!
Just not a lot.
As a comparison...
I dust mop every day, 10 months a year.
I dust mop twice a day 1 month a year.
I dust mop every time I have to pee 1 month a year
(Sorry, I drink a lot, so that's my 'mop alarm' in spring).
I have a double coated Chocolate Labrador.
He sheds enough to fill a paper grocery bag half full EVERY time so dust mop. Even if its 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x per day.
If in sick and miss a day, I have enough for. a. new. dog.
He sheds as much as the husky I used to have.
Its ungodly.
And noooooo one belieeeeeeeves me till they stay the weekend and see me doing hair retrieval services.
"Holy cow. You weren't exaggerating."
Nope.
Which is why I don't have carpet. It took to long to get the hair sorted. I mean, who wants to vacuum twice or thrice a day, and have to empty the bag twice per vacuum. 6 bags a day of hair???? Not me!
((He gets weekly baths, and daily brushing. Just oh-so-hairy!))
How unfortunate that someone told you Weimerainers were hypoallergenic. Unless a dog is a poodle, or one of a few terriers, ALL dogs will shed. (this includes the "doodles", just because 1/2 of a dog is a poodle doesn't make the entire dog hypoallergenic. Some will shed, some won't.)
I have Rhodesian Ridgebacks, which have a very similar coat to the Weimy's. Some hair will come out year round, just like the hairs on our head - the root dies & the shaft falls out. True shedding that most people think of is a 2x a year cycle, once in spring & once in fall typically. This usually lasts a week, when larger amounts of hair will come out.
A few ways to deal with cyclical shedding - get a curry comb from the Farm & Fleet (like for horses) & use that in a nice circular motion to work up the loose/dead hair & remove it from the coat. Follow with a stiff hair brush to wisk it off the body.
Also, a Furminator (brand name) works - it has a blade that grasps those dead/loose hairs & pulls them out of the coat. Use it like a comb.
Giving baths helps - the water & massage w/the shampoo will loosen the hair & it comes out.
Many people think of short-haired breeds as "non shedding" because they do not have the longer hairs that tend to float around (like a German Shephard or Golden Retriever). Instead, the short hairs fall down to the ground, & if you have hardwood floors, will just shuffle along the baseboards.
A weekly or monthly bath will help with the day to day shedding, & the cyclical shedding will usually last a week or two - best managed by brushing/combing once a day.

hes losing his puppy hair-but also the weather is dry-so therefore their skin gets just as dry.this is what i do for both my dogs-helps the shedding n dander issues.mix a 1/4 tsp.olive oil in dog food.it will take about 2 weeks to work-but once it kicks in-its great-also give hard boiled egg 3xs a week.extra protein helps with this also.use a good doggy shampoo-oatmeal with alovera really does wonders.also with the egg n oil it keeps their joints healthy naturally.
