I need some recommandations for a dog kennel. I need it in the summer but i just wanted to see what my options are. We usualy had friends watch our dog but thats not an option anymore. Our dog is a people dog and doesn't get along with female dogs or little dogs. I want her to get some kind of affection and i don't know if thats possible with kennel. If you know somebody thats realy good please let me know. Thank you very much!!!!!!

We've used Holly Ridge Country Club on Seaboard Road in Virginia Beach. Our dog does not play well with others, and they take that into consideration when we board her. They make sure she has play time with staff. I would call them to schedule a visit, if you're interested, to check it out. We've always been very pleased with them.

I just recently had to board my dog for the first time in 7 years and did a little checking. I was most pleased with Holly Ridge Manor on Seaboard Road in Virginia Beach. I think if you have to board your dog this is the best place. The people are extremely friendly and geniuly care for the dogs.

I have used both Las Gaviatos (sp?) in Great Bridge and Wags and Whiskers in Churchland. They are both great just depends on where you live. I just moved to Norfolk so if you hear of one over in this area please let me know. Be sure to reserve early.

I've used Coastal Dog Services in Newport News (I live in Yorktown) for 10+ years. Initially, I had my beagle there for day care as he suffers from separation anxiety -- really, I'm not kidding -- he jumped out of a 2nd floor window in an attempt to get to me (luckily landed on an awning covering the doorway to help break his fall). They would take the dog's personality into consideration -- how long they spent outside "playing" with the other dogs was completely dependent upon how well the dog got along w/ other dogs. Their website is http://www.coastaldog.com/index.html should you care to check them out.

Best of luck,
J. -- now "Mama" to that same beagle, plus another rescue beagle, plus a Chihuahua-Dachshund mix.
