Sometimes he sleeps shirtless. Sometimes I walk in, in the AM and hes naked! The child is def not picky about what he wears or doesnt wear.
My 3 yr old has always worn pajama top and bottom. Last night, he went to bed with his shirt on, but after fussing and not wanting to go to bed, I go into his room 20 minutes later and he is shirtless. He said "I dont need dat." I put his blanket over him and told him goodnight. "Are you sure you don't want your shirt on?" He said "no." He slept all night with no shirt. I don't know if he was hot or if he just wants to be like dad or if he was just bored and didn't want to go to bed. The house was at about 75 degree. I always worry about him getting chills from the a/c. So just curious what your boys do. At what age did they start sleeping shirtless?

My 7 year old has pjs (tops and bottoms). Sometimes when it's really hot he'll just sleep in his undies.
Mine was 7 years old. Now, he might have been sooner but i had him wear jammies. Whatever works and as long as they sleep!

Yes but wish he wouldn't, would cut down on laundry.
Right now it's a t-shirt and boxer briefs.
My kids love sleeping with shirts and shirtless. It started when they were about 1 years old. When it is hot, I let them sleep in underwear and a shirt or nothing at all.

mostly no. very rarely he will. but most of the time my kids (7yo girl and 5yo boy) are running around the house in nothing but their undies. so that's typically what they sleep in.
My son sleeps in his undies! He is a sweaty little boy, and when I check on him before I go to bed he is soaking wet. He started sleeping shirtless when he was 4, and even though we keep the house at 72 in the summer, he is still hot. He also sleeps with only a sheet. In the winter we keep the heat at about 65, and he will wear shirt and pants pajamas then.
My 7 year old wears pajamas and my 16 year old wears a shirt also. It is a comfort zone thing for the 7 year old and the 16 year old sweats in his sleep and does not like to stink up his room.
They should wear what they are comfortable in.
my 4 year old girl doesn't think it's summer unless she can take her naps in her panties. As far as she's concerned, that's the best thing ever. I figure, who's it hurting? She's got plenty of blankets on her bed to pull on if she gets cold.
i think exactly what he wants to wear (or not wear) is fine. no one sees him when he's sleeping, and at three he's big enough to put on or take off blankets as he gets hot or cold. we spent the first few years with those adorable pj sets or footie pajamas - i still LOVE the footies pj's for cold weather, and will get my 5 year old some more this fall, but especially when it's hot - undies (or in our case, a pullup) is all you need. i wish i was a boy!
My four year old decided he needed to join the Red Hot Chilli Peppers apparently. He woke up without his shirt on and claimed he didn't know how it came off. He's always hot so I wasn't worried about him being cold.
BUT at the pool or beach he always wants one of his rashguard shirt on. He's an odd little thing.
They usually do (3 and 7) but it wouldn't bother me if they wanted to not wear one. My 3 yo has gone to bed without one a few times. I know he likes to keep covers on so it doesn't worry me too much. My older boy is on the top bunk and tends to throw his covers off (and is very thin) so I might be more concerned about chills with him. I figure as long as they keep a sheet on or something they are probably fine. Even with the air on at night sometimes it's a little too warm lately.
Older one does-younger one does not. He also doesn't use a blanket...however i do sneak one on him when he falls asleep. I can't remember when he started it though...I don't think as young as 3-more like 5.
My son wears a t shirt when it's cooler but if it's a hot evening he goes to bed with just his boxers. He has a sheet and a blanket and there are times that he's curled up tight in a ball trying to stay warm and when I pull the blanket over him his body relaxes and he keeps sleeping.
As my husband said one day when my then 3 yr old son was outside in 18 inches of snow on the patio in just his pajamas and boots "when he's cold he'll come in" - and when your son's cold he'll snuggle under his blankets. ;o)
My 4 guys do not wear shirts to bed. They range from the ages of 42- 7. My youngest usually only wears his underwear. He was never a pajama fan. He was always hot natured.
underwear, and occasionally t shirt, usually in winter
either with or not he will take it off durring the night if he gets too hot. its not a big deal.
My son started wearing nothing but undies towards the end of his 4th year. My 3 yr old daughter sometimes sleeps shirtless because she's warm natured (but wears jammies most nights). My son has definitely made comments about dad not sleeping in PJ's. I think it's an appropriate age. I worry about them getting cold too but it never seems to happen.
my middle guy refuses too.
I have stopped trying to fight it...less clothes he dirties up:)
My other two will only sleep shirtless, If it is VERY hot out.
Mine are 6, 4 1/2 and 3......
My son's 12 and wears pajamas (short sleeve and shorts in summer, long sleeve and long pants in winter).
Dad wears pajamas, too (and so do I).
My son, age 9, mostly wears shorts/pants and shirt to bed. Occasionally he only wears his shorts/pants and sometimes he's just in his boxer briefs. He went through one summer when he was 3 or 4 that he only would wear his underwear because he "wanted to be like his dad" who only wears underwear to sleep in. He's hot natured like his dad, so I figured let him sleep in whatever makes him comfortable. He sleeps with covers on and off throughout the night.
My 6 year old loves to sleep in his underwear. I have him put on PJ's but he always strips down. I do like Momma L and check on him and I will pull the blanket on him when he's asleep. He sometimes will ask for pants, but never a shirt.
Nope, they usually are in their underwear, (they are 5 and 3). If they do wear a shirt, they usually take it off. I always go in and check on them, adjust their ceiling fan if it's too hot, or pull up a blanket if they need it.
Oy.
I have no idea when it started (he's 9, now). But he absolutely will not, under any circumstances, wear a top to bed. He'll put one on in the morning. He'll even wear one around the house at night sometimes. But at bedtime it gets stripped off.
His blanket keeps him warm.
Well, since they are 19 and 17 I have no idea, not like I wanna go in there and check!!!
But since very young, they've worn an old tee shirt and basketball shorts.
:)
I let my kids wear whatever is comfortable. Granted they are better at articulating this when they are older than five.
Hi jess-
My boys have always been 'bottoms only' kind of guys in summer...and the girls...'nite time T shirts'...
Girls have always had tops...(or onsies)...boys from about 3 on...bottoms only!
Best Luck!
Michele/cat
underoos only. not sure why, but that's how it is
My kids all sleep in underwear in the summer or sweats and t-shirts in the winter. We aren't jammie people, I think they are a waste of money. They are 3, 6 and 9 two boys and a girl.
my son is 4 and wears unders to bed only most nights. I think its a little to do with being like daddy, a little to do with being to lazy to put on pajamas. I don't worry about him getting chilled just because he uses blankets and I think he would come tell me if he was cold or just put on jamies (which he has done before).
my son has hated pajamas since he was a year old. he always slept in a diaper then his undies. now hes 9 and he wears underwear all year unless its super cold at night.
He used to. Now at 4, he wears a shirt if he's chilly and will just wear his shorts or pj pants and no shirt more often now. I can't really blame him. Shirts aggravate me in my sleep, and I CANNOT wear a gown. In our case, it's not really about temperature. Just don't "like" sleeping and feeling either restricted or confined if it fits, and if a little bigger then it gets twisty and even worse.
My son will be 9 shortly and has not worn actual PJ's to bed in ages. He goes to bed every night in his boxers/underwear. With your son being younger it could be a control issue - but it's pj's - not something major. If he's cold - he'll want his pjs the next night. I would just let him go shirtless and let him learn from experience if he wants a shirt or not.
Thanks
I'm lucky if I can get him to leave a pull up or diaper on!
My 12 year old son is not wearing his shirt every night it started at the age of 5

I don't have a boy, but my 2 1/2 year old daughter won't wear a shirt to bed. I used to put her in full pj's, then went down to just a shirt for the summer, but partway through this summer, she started refusing to wear a shirt. So, she sleeps in a pull-up & that's it. I keep our house at 70 at night, and she does fine with the blanket that she uses. I wouldn't worry about him being cold. :)
