I did yoga and pileates DVDs at home before and after my 1st child, I noticed a bigger toning and weight loss difference with the pilates but the yoga really helped me strectch and with sore muscles. I would recocmmend trading off between the two and getting the best of both worlds, it will aslo give a variety in your inhome excerise.

I like to do Yoga with the kids. They think it's hilarious good fun. Not sure I'm losing any weight, but i feel good after I do it.
I like Zumba for cardio and really working up a sweat. Plus it's fun! I feel like I'm losing weight when I sweat, but I could be wrong.

I have found that if I do yoga in combination with aerobic exercise my body looks it's best. Yoga really works to destress you, elongate the body, and it is a "sexy" exercise in my opinion, so in turn you feel better after doing it. Best of luck on finding the right video that works for you!

YES! It's the best core body workout you can do. Alternate with some cardio and you're set!

I'd also suggest going to a studio a few times to take some of the classes there. You need to know what the moves feel like when they're done correctly. And you need the instructor to ensure your body is aligned correctly...it's amazing the difference between what feels right when you're looking at the TV and trying to imitate vs being in a studio and having someone correct your moves.....If you're not aligned the stretches and poses won't do nearly as much for you. Even being a 1/2 " off can make the difference between a stretch and and OMG! pose. GL!!

That is a big yes. However, I would suggest that you take a class once a week - at least in the beginning. The energy and vibe from the instructor and other people there will really help motivate you. Also, looking into classes that have "flow" in the name such as Vinyasa Flow, hatha flow, etc. These "flow" classes are designed for a better cardio workout in addition to strength and flexibility. There are several types of yoga classes available so do some research for the one you are looking for as some are geared toward more meditation rather than workout.

If you decide to take a class, look for a teacher that is interactive and not afraid to tell you if you need to adjust your pose - the more accurate your pose, the better the workout and less chance of injuring yourself. Have fun and good luck!

P.S. I had a yoga teach say "you can tell a person's age by how flexible they are."

Rodney Yee and Baron Baptiste both have lots of good Yoga videos. There are varying degrees of yoga. Some are fairly easy and gentle and some are meant for more seasoned yoga practitioners and will really give you a strenuous work out. It's about finding what works for you and where you are right now. Yoga done right will build strength and stamina. If you're really interested you can even find a studio that teaches in a hot room. These are some of the best work outs that I have ever had.
