I am a red wine drinker, but last night had white wine at my neighbor's house. I had had cramps that day, and they went away after the wine. So, I'm a believer now.
Hey mamas,
I have been having some killer cramps today and taking 4 Advil every 8 hrs per my doctor's instruction. I had some white wine in the fridge and had about 1.5 glasses with my dinner and I feel soooooo much better. I checked online and the reviews were kind of mixed, but a lot of women seem to find a little wine helps and I totally think it helped me. So what's the vote, does it help any of you mamas out there?
Robin-me too! Hahahaha:D
I also normally usually use a heating pad, today was triple digits here in h-town, and my a/c just doesn't keep up that well, (it is too small for the house, didn't realize it as new home buyers!) anyway, I couldn't stand the thought of more hotness!

My doc recently told me to try taking Aleve twice a day starting a day or so before I expect my period. She gave me a prescription for 500mg. It is working very well for me.

Is there any problem wine doesn't help with?
Honey, wine helps everything-wish we were neighbors!
Uh.,.. honey, wine helps EVERYthing!!! lol
Seriously, it's a relaxer. It relaxes the mind as well as the body and muscles. It helps me when I'm having a particularly rough period (and thus, helps the entire family) :D
Enough wine helps with everything.
Alcohol never helped me.
Neither did exercise.
Exercise worked for my girlfriend but all it did for me was make the cramps worse to the point where I wanted to throw up.
Hot bath or a heating pad always helped.
They didn't have those stick on heat patches back then.
The ultimate fix for me was having our son.
After he stretched everything out (he was 9 lbs 1.5 oz at birth), I've never had a cramp again.
Wine helps with everything which is why I can't drink it anymore :)
Mixing wine with Advil might help your cramps, but it will also fry your liver. Cramps are temporary-liver failure is fatal.
If your periods are regular enough, start taking the Advil two days before the cramps start. I always suffered horrible cramps till a doctor actually took the time to explain that how the Advil helps is stopping the release of the chemicals that actually creates the cramps and this is usually released before your cramps start.
Of course, I am now facing the whole irregular, perimenopause fun and therefore, think I might have to look into this whole wine thing. :)
I think any alcohol helps pain. Personaly I think most wine tastes of vinegar. I have heard pickle juice helps cramping ... which is mostly vinegar (and other stuff )
If you drink enough vodka or rum I bet you would have the same effect. I am currently experiencing the worst cramps of my life. I usually have it pretty easy but this go is killer??? Kinda glad your feeling my pain but then again bummed someone else is experiencing this too!
Wine helps with everything. And when it doesn't... who cares? It's wine!
Also... alcohol increases the effects of many medications and of most pain killers... so it also probably made your four Advil work extra well :)
Putting aside the fact that drinking anything helps with my cramps (because it's usually a sign I'm a little dehydrated), I do prefer wine. Or scotch. Yeah, scratch the wine, scotch cures everything. I believe that's been a pain killer in my family for...hundreds of years :)
It really can help. However, you should not drink while taking such a heavy dose of Advil because it is hell on your liver and can cause stomach bleeding. Wine, or Advil, but not both.
Pretty sure wine just lessens your inhibitions about the pain. Just my theory.
I don't drink alcohol, so it's just anecdotal.
Hmm, wine..I will have to try it.. I bet it could help, but I drink hot chamomile tea for cramps..
Yup, wine! Sex and exercise. Not necessarily in that order. If I had my way it would be sex, wine and exercise but my drive is ginormous so wine is a nice substitute!
I think wine decreases the awareness of pain. I use a good old fashioned hot water bottle. It works great...especially in combination with Advil.
Never tried it...what helps me the most is a nice (or a few) good orgasms!
