Does Underwear (Panties) Expire?

Yesterday we were at the mall and Victoria Secret was having a panties sale (7 for $25). My husband told me I should buy them since he notice I still use my maternity panties...which I do because they are very comfy, lol.
Then we start joking around about when we should let go the panties, we both agree that if it doesn't fit or have holes is time to let go, but he then say what about your "Bite me" underwear, are you going to use a 20+ year old underwear when you are a grandma? Now I am keeping that one just to show him, lol.
So question are:
-Do you still use your maternity underwear?
-When do you retire your panties?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just went to check and my "Bite me" panties happen to be my older panties, they are 12 years old, and not holes yet, lol!
Which it means that by the time I am on my 50's they will be 30+yo, I really wonder if they will hold that long, I also which I could buy more (there is no tags anymore) of those because many of my newer panties got holes much much earlier.

I never had maternity underpants. Mine fit all the way through, and most are low-rise bikinis.

I retire underwear when it gets frayed or torn or worn out. I do have a pair of Tigger that I got in college that I keep on hand as spare only. I don't wear it regularly anymore.

I guess, too, does he mean underwear that is fun and new or underwear he'd like to see in the bedroom? They are different things. I personally like bright colors and cotton and DH doesn't care. My stepdaughter buys the VS Pink line, but says the regular VS underwear doesn't hold up (which has been my experience with a free pair).

Maternity underwear, never had them. I just wore granny panties. Now I wear granny panties when I'm on my period, working out, cleaning... so pretty much always.

As far as 'retiring' underwear, I think I just did. I went through my overflowing underwear drawer and tossed every article that had holes or pulls. Didn't leave me much left!! I had most of that stuff since I was in HIGH SCHOOL, I"m embarrassed to admit. BUT... it did give me an excuse to shop for pretty new things :)

Sigh, I REALLY need new underwear, too. And bras. And jeans, and a bathing suit and shoes, flip flops, a light jacket, a new purse......

I always think, well I'll pick a couple things up NEXT month. Course then somebody always needs something I didn't foresee, broken glasses, school trip, start of track season, vet bills, dentists appts.....

You're right. you're HUSBAND is right. A girl oughta have some nice underwear! So that's my goal this week (right after I pick up the inhaler, put gas in the car, get an oil change, bday present for my guy, hair cuts......)

Giggle.

My hubby bought me some nice matching bras and underwear for xmas....but I still like to wear my old underwear....and nursing bra....even though Im not nursing anymore! Ak! How embarrasing! LMAO

The Underwear industry says that it expires every 6 months. I tend to think that they have a little to gain.

My husband had a pair that I tossed recently, they were from Junior High...no lie. They just kept growing with him, and he thought it was funny to keep them going as long as he could. When I could see through them, I tossed them, but they never had any holes.

Panties go in the trash at my house when they are ripped, torn, have bad elstic, or are otherwise not presentable, just in case.

Keep the bite me undies. Wear them to your golden wedding aniversary party!

This is funny. Most of my underwear is really old, and I do have some maternity mixed in there. I retire them if they are too big or small, the elastic is shot, and have recently started tossing those with the wear on the elastic. Yes, there was a hole because I could see the elastic, but it didn't affect the actual wear. :)

Just be ready that if you start tossing some that you have replacements already. That is from experience!

I never used maternity chonies. I wear low-rise bikinis, so never had an issue with my belly. I wear mine until the have holes or the elastic wears out. Who cares what 'age' they are? If they are comfy, go for it! LOL! Does he WANT you to wear grannie panties? I still have 'Happy Bunny' ones that I got in high school, and they are still my favorite!

Hmm. I still have some from college because they were well made and I don't wear them very often, but I tend to replace my hanes at least every year due to just normal wear and tear and loss of elasticity. I have to replace my husbands about every six months.

I think this is so funny, BTW, that your hubby and you had this disscussion - sounds like something that happens at our house LOL!

I never bought maternity underwear. I wear low rise boyshorts most of the time, and they worked just fine throughout both pregs.

I still have panties from high school! (I probably should be embarrassed about that...)
I retire them when they have holes or elastic that wears out. Otherwise, they're just fine! :)

I think because most of us moms put our needs last that we use most of what we have until it is falling apart. I do throw underwear out if it gets holes or if the elastic goes out. I will admit that I did go through and throw out all of my maternity underwear a while back ( last Spring) because my sweet mom bought me new underwear! Also my youngest will be 4 in June!!! So well there is always that! I try and make a rule if I do buy something new to go through the old...this works well, keeps my closets and drawers from becoming unmanageable.

Two weeks after my daughter was born, my maternity underwear was too big, and it went to Goodwill.

In general, at our house underwear becomes cleaning rags when it has more hole than fabric, or the elastic is so stretched that you need a belt to hold up your drawers.
Otherwise, no matter how old it is, if it fits and it's intact, it's good.

Well, I do. Because I just bought the hip hugger style regular panties from Victoria's Secret - they fit great under a baby bump. And they are still great after having a normal figure back.
