My son has SMO's and we use SmartKnit. There are a few places you can buy online, but we get them from Hangar Orthotics. They are a little pricey (if you get a compassionate person on the phone or in person at Hangar, they may give you a discount - I think we pay 1/2 price!) I know Hangar has offices in NY, we get ours from just outside Rochester. These socks wick moisture away from the skin, and are knit without seams, causing a smooth surface against the skin (no sores!) No need to use baby powder on my son's very sweaty feet! Also, we buy the ones with silver, since it is antimicrobial. Now I have all the therapists recommending these socks to their patients/families. I just get 3 or 4 pairs, and wash them out at night. You can machine wash them, but hang dry (ours have been through the dryer accidentally, and seem to be ok!) These socks are great, and come in many colors. Good luck!

We bought high athletic socks for our 4 year old daughter. How high do her AFO's go? Mine wore Sure Step ones that went a few inches above her shoe. I found that the boy socks go a bit higher than girl socks. If she just started using them it will take her a little bit to get used to them. But after a few weeks she will hardly know the difference. Oh, they made a world of difference for my little girl. She wore them from 4-5years old and did both OT and PT once a week to catch up. At 5 she has been released from the AFO's and therapy. Best wishes to your family!

Do you put the socks on under or over the AFOs? My niece has to wear them and they put the socks on underneath of them. Look into Baby Legs or Leg Huggers (I think that's what they're called.) They're like leg warmers. We use them under skirts instead of tights. She might still have to wear socks though...Hmmm..... I think I would just put regular socks on underneath and maybe the Baby Legs over top.
You can make Baby Legs yourself out of womens knee high socks. Just Google "how to make your own baby legs" and you'll get a ton of results.

I do not know a site but have you tried knee socks or the sports socks that come out higher? I have bought socks for a child with AFOs before.

Have you tried soccer socks or baseball socks depending on how high up her AFO's go? You can get either thin or thick ones, depending on preference and fit. You may need to go to a sporting goods store to find small enough ones.

Hi K. V.! I know you posted this a while ago (I hope you were able to find a solution for your daughter), but I thought I'd respond in case anyone else comes across this thread and is looking for suggestions for AFO socks. Rock-a-Thighs (http://www.RTBsocks.com) are Made in USA, children's thigh-length socks (like legwarmers with feet) and they make excellent AFO/KAFO socks. Rock-a-Thigh Baby is a mom-owned and operated small business. Blessings! ~J., mom of 4 daughters and owner/designer of Rock-a-Thigh Baby
