For about three months now I've been having honestly strange periods. I've been having cramping all month long (before, during, and after ovulation) then when my period starts it's a very bright red with A LOT of clots that are coming in many different sizes. The first clot was about the size of a quarter and after that they're about the size of a dime. After about two days of that my period just cuts out and my vaginal wall gets really really tight to where I can't even fit a tampon in it. Then I start to bleed again but this time it's a pinkish brown or dark brown and it looks more like spotting. The next day which is like day four or five it'll be really heavy again then stop. I haven't spotted in three months. I'm constantly bloated everything I eat bothers me. I just need answers and my OB/GYN won't give me any answers...please help!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

No update yet. I went to the ER because the pain got so bad I couldn't drive. I saw my obgyn and she did my blood test for STDs and a urinalysis. Everything seems okay but I still have terrible cramps. I'm vegitarian as well so I don't eat meat but on occasion I eat cheese. Nothing has changed. The bloating is worse that's for sure. I can't even wear jeans without be uncomfortable. I either am in sweats or or joggers 24/7. I'm really beginning to hate life

You need to make an apt with you GYN. If you are just calling them they probably wont give you any info without seeing you first. If they wont help you find answers in the office then find a new Dr that will! It could mean so many different things! Can they might not know what's causing it. But a good GYN would do some blood test and an ultrasound. That's what mine did when I was having problems. But when mine where bad it looked like I had given birth to an alien. I would suggest using pad. If you are having issues the tampons could make things worse.

TMI.. You need to discuss your concerns with your OB/GYN. IF you are not satisfied with the answers you are getting, go get a second opinion.

I've never heard of a Dr not giving answers when asked, no matter how simple the question. If this is your Dr's norm, I'd find another Dr.

My friends and I talk very openly about stuff, but we've never analyzed our periods to this degree. That's what professionals are for. (not wanting to be judgmental but I couldn't begin to tell you what's up with yours).

I am guessing your OBGYN doesn't feel there is a need for concern - however, if you are still concerned, get a second opinion.

If your doctor isn't helping then you need a new doctor.
No one on the internet can help you.
Could be anything ranging from harmless on one end of the scale to cancer on the other end of it.
So find a doctor that will work with you, get your answers and hopefully some solution.
If you're done having kids a hysterectomy will mean you will have no more periods ever again.

yes, i know exactly why your period is doing this to you and can explain it in great detail.

all i need is a sample of your blood, a fingernail paring, and to wait until the dark of the moon.

and a substantial 'donation', of course.

You really deserve answers. If your doctor isn't helping, either out of disinterest or insufficient knowledge, get another opinion. Maybe that means going to a new gyn, maybe it means going to a specialist. Maybe you need some additional testing, such an an ultrasound or something else to give a better idea or view of what's going on inside. Maybe you need blood work.

I know you need more information. Either call your doctor and ask who he recommends for a 2nd opinion (and no, that's not insulting - doctors get asked that all the time) or call your insurance company for a referral to someone who accepts your plan. Get 3-4 names and call up to see who has the first available appointment. Have a copy of your records sent to that new physician who may also repeat some tests to compare results. Don't wait. Call.

So...get a second opinion? I mean, I am sure this is not the only ob/gyn in town...The bloating could be a form of IBS. I bloat a lot during my period, and when I asked my ob/gyn about that, she said I may have undiagnosed IBS and that when I get my period, the estrogen hormones just make the problem a lot of worse. Maybe that's what you're having. Might also be PCOS or fibroids, these cause heavy bleeding and can cause period irregularities. STDs can do things like this too, as can cancer, or birth control pills, stress can also make your cycle change, weight gain or weight loss can too -- this is why you need to see a doctor and have various forms of testing to determine the issue.

If you've made appointments with your Ob/Gyn and they haven't been running any tests, then you need to see a new Ob/Gyn. Bloodwork and ultrasound to start, possibly MRI, sometimes exploratory procedures.

Just as one potential example, fibroids can cause cramping, excessive blood, and clots. They can usually be seen on ultrasound. There are other conditions that cause pain, or muscle issues, or bloating. There are different ways to discover them. Please see a new doctor.
