Does Anyone Know About Spider Angiomas?

My daughter is 3 years old and developed a spider angioma on her face at 18 months. Since then it has worsened and it is now 1cm big. Has anyone experienced this and did you seek laser treatment? What is the outcome? Her dermatologist said children as young as 1 month come in for this and get treated with laser treatments. Just want to hear some results.

What can I do next?

My daughter had a bouncy ball size hemangioma on her cheek which developed around 1 week old and grew bigger and bigger. We did laser treatment around 2.5 months which were only to lighten the color not to make it go away. In your case, it may make it go away so why not try it. It's a bit painful for them and you have to go several times but only takes around 10-20 seconds and then my daughter was fine. I know how hard it can be to live with something like that on your child's face for you and her. That being said, if you can do something about it why not? The laser did end up lightening my daughter's hemangioma quite a bit but at 21 months we decided to have it surgically removed which did leave a scar.
Good luck!

Hi. My son got one that started out looking like a red freckle at birth. My the time he was 5 months old it was the size of a nickle and raised. Then it started to get smaller at about 1 years old. He is now 2 years old and it is 99% gone. Fortunately for us, it is on his head so his hair totally covers it right now. I went to a pediatric dermatologist and they said to leave it alone, but that was because it was in a good spot. They said if it was interfering with his eyes, brain, nose or mouth they would laser it off but it would not be 100% gone. Good Luck.

Dear A.,
My daughter grew an hemangioma on her forehead. It started at a few weeks old and grew and darkened until she was about three. It then started to fade and now that she is almost five it is almost completely gone. Doctors told me that it would go away by about age five. I would just wait to do anything and see if it resolves by itself. Treatment may leave a scar.

My 15 month old daughter has had spider veins on her cheeks since birth. It is also about 1 cm or bigger. There is another small one by the corner of one of her eyes. I thought they were some kind of "birth mark" or trauma from the birth like "stork bites"... The doctor said she may likely outgrow it and seemed unconcerned. I am not bothered by it as long as it is benign. I would rather wait to see if she outgrows it or it resolves on its own. Another child said "she has a firework on her cheek" :) If it is still there when she's older and becomes an "issue" we might take action.

My niece had her lasered off with great results - her's was pretty big about 1/2 inch or so and it was not a big deal at all- it healed well and has not returned- although she was about 7 years old and it's been 2 years now, but I can't imagine it being any different for a baby/toddler.....good luck - I would let them do it now while it is small....
