Hi this will be our 7th year hosting the neighborhood easter egg hunt. I have everyone drop off 12 filled eggs per child. I have 3 prizes for 3 different age groups. One magic egg for each age group.

It only takes start to finish no more then 30 min. What else can I do to make it a bit longer? Games/races I am up for different ideas..Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yes everyone loves it. We have a GREAT turn out each year its a bit more people. With parents its abou t30 -35 people. Its a free event to bring our neighborhood together. My family is just getting exciting of hosting the upcoming easter egg hunt so I was thinking I would add something this year.

Has the neighborhood enjoyed how you've done it in the past??? Why change anything if they've had a great time? Can you make it a potluck? Meaning the neighbors can mingle and enjoy a brunch together with the kids? How fun. Enjoy

Enlist the help of a creative mommy to do face painting which is always a hit at our neighborhood egg hunt.

Decorate your own Easter cupcake.

Sugar cookies shaped like eggs, rabbits, flowers. The kids can decorate them.

Egg on the spoon race. (oops someone already said that)

I love the pinata idea.

Sit on the balloon race (try to pop a balloon by sitting on it). Balloons are kind of shaped like eggs. 8)

I also love the kite flying idea. We did this for my son's third birthday. Toys R Us and Target sell these great inflatable small kites for about $3 or so. They are fool proof kites. Even the littlest ones there could fly them.

Have a great time. I'm sure it will be awesome.

Peace.

Easter Pinata!.. we fill ours with stickers, band aides, a few treats..

Of course we are in Texas so Confetti eggs are a must. Each year the different families collect and decorate their eggs. Then we have a huge egg battle.. the dads love it.. the rule is you crush the egg in your hand and then throw it at people..

Organize a huge Simon says Game..
Huge Green light, red light games. Allow the kids to also be the leader/caller.. the parents have to participate.

Do the chicken dance. Do the Maccarena.

If there is a park close by , how about flying kites?

I agree we always do a BBQ and everybody brings a side dish.. A Potluck is also perfect.. I always made a ton of Deviled eggs.

~ How about teaming kids up of all ages and having and Easter Themed Scavenger hunt, too.

~ Sack Races/Bunny Hop

~ Egg on Spoon Races

~ Pile of (hay, sand, sawdust) with prize or coins to dig for

~ Get a bunch of jars or small fishbowls...have the kids make little terrariums with small plants, rocks, sticks they find (you can buy a bunch of egg or Easter themed plastic pieces to decorate it....or even paint the jars or sticker them up

~ Bring a bunch of egg half shells...use plant cuttings from easily propogated plants (spider plants, purple passion, wandering jews, philodendrons...even succulents) or flower/vegetable seeds and dirt - the kids can plant mini gardens in the half shells of the eggs whih are biodegradable and make great pots for growing seedlings

hula hoop contests, the egg on the spoon relay race, maybe a bunny hop game (like leap frog) or something like that.

Have people decorate their baskets and most festive basket wins a prize...

The Army post where my daughter goes to daycare always does a big Easter egg hunt. They of course have sponsors & things donated, and it's a bigger event than yours.

They have food and drinks for everyone.
They have 3 age groups like you said, and give a prize for each group.
They have someone dressed as the Easter bunny for people to take photos of their kids with him.
They have other prizes that they do drawings for. Everybody attending gets a ticket & then they call out the numbers on the tickets to give away several prizes - from toys to candy.

Last year I noticed they had a big tote full of extra eggs filled with candy. If there were any kids who were not able to get any eggs during the hunt, they can get an egg from this tote, so they don't feel so left out :) Our hunts are over in the blink of an eye I swear! LOL

We go to the Trolley Museum in Washington to ride the trolley with the bunny. They have an easter egg hunt and each child gets to plant a sunflower seed - they have little cardboard pots, the kids dig their own dirt (from a pile they create) and fill the pot, they have stickers for decorating the pot - a week later we have a cute little sunflower. That has been my son's fave part each time. What about potato sack races? Carry the egg on the spoon? Water balloon cornhole? Good luck!

You could do a 3-legged race, or a sack race (bunny hop), egg-on-a-spoon race (older kids can hold the spoon with their mouth, younger kids can use their hands)

You could do an egg-color station (styrofoam eggs and finger paint), You could play twister (Make your own mat and make the colors egg-shaped instead. lol)

My neighborhood has one as well, run by the HOA w/ a minimal cost per person to cover the eggs they supply & the crafts purchased from Oriental Trading. The Easter Bunny even makes an appearance (a willing father that also stops by around Christmas as well).

what about a few stations so a kid can pick what they want to do/compete in:
- egg race (egg on a spoon)
- egg coloring competition (have markers/pencils/crayons and a lot of pieces of paper with a big egg drawn on it. Competitors have 10 minutes to decorate. Have prizes for age groups or for creativeness)
- Pin the tail on the bunny
- "Chubby Bunny" marshmallow or jelly bean eating contest

as for the hunt lasting longer - all I can think would be to write names or something on the eggs. Each child must find an egg with their name or their street name on it.?? Or older children must find a certain number of colored eggs (ie 5 yellow, 5 green, 2 pink, etc).
