My husband is a licensed pest control technician who specializes in bedbugs. Bedbugs DO respond to proper treatment if done well and professionally. Usually it takes two seperate treatments to get rid of them for good. You shoudlnt just destroy bed linen because they dont just hide linen. A bed bug infestation usually means they are everywhere. They hide in the tiniest crevices and are often hard to see. They can be as small as a tick. If you are at a business, you can spot the presence of bedbugs if you see tiny black bugs on any type of linen/clothing, ect. Also, they tend to leave red smears on clothing (dark rust red, its there poop). If you see their presence, you should avoid rubbing up against any type of cloth (couches, laundry, beds, ect). My husband has been to many homes infested with bed bugs (including huge movie theaters) to treat for them and he has never once brought them home with him. As long as you dont rub up against anything and keep aware, you probably shouldnt have much to worry about

The the only way they say to get rid of them is to call an exterminator becasuse the entire house must be treated just because you get rid of the mattresses they travel & fall off investing other areas of the home often the carpeting couches stuffed animals etc.

My poor mother brought them home with her after staying at a bed and breakfast. She replaced her bed linens and vacuumed her mattress. She also vacuumed the carpet in her room, but didn't need to replace carpeting or anything too extreme.
She was devastated - it was emotionally taxing, costly to replace the bedding, stressful, not to mention her torso was covered with trails of extremely itchy bites. It was an awful experience for her. :(
The worst part about bed bugs is that the people who are affected by them are not the ones who created the problem. My mother was so shamed, I felt terrible for her. I pray I never have this problem as my husband travels often.

I had bedbugs in one of my old college apts. I had to throw away the mattress and I bagged up and threw away the bedding. Get rid of them before they spread to the couches, furniture, flooring and walls.

The house needs to be treated... not all of the home remedies work. Here's some info on how to get rid of them:

Hi C.,
No, I've never had bed bugs, but I can't imagine I'd handle it very well if I did...YUCK!!!
Anyway, my sister who is also in Bucks Co. told me that there have been news reports of an epidemic of bed bugs across the world. I don't know how accurate the report was, but I supposedly they are becoming more common because they don't die when/if you exterminate your home. They are resistent to the chemicals. According to the report the only way to get rid of them is to throw away the infested bedding.

While everyone I'm sure will recommend an exterminator or some type of pesticide, I would recommend getting some diatomaceaous earth. You can read some great tips here:

This is such a timely topic for me as I'm currently having a freak out about bed bugs. I even had a nightmare! We are going to Disney in a few weeks and I've read about them being there and am terrified. I have a little bug phobia and something about the thought of them crawling all over me or my kids when we sleep just gets to me. I read up about it and it said to inspect the bed when you get to a hotel, especially behind the headboard. Has anyone had a bedbug experience in Disney?
