Does Anyone Else Have a Roomba?

This is a two part question. I have a Roomba vacuum cleaner that I use almost daily (we have hardwoods throughout the house, and this is the best way to keep them somewhat clean with a cat, dog, and baby). My question is I have already replaced the battery once when it wasn't holding its charge as well as it used to. It has been less than a year since I last replaced it, and it seems to be doing the same thing again. Is this just par for the course, or what? Just thinking it may be time to replace the whole vacumn and get a new roomba. I would not give up the convience of a roomba for anything (unless it was a daily housekeeper).
My other question is, my 13 month old crawler is now afraid of the roomba. I used to run it all the time w/o any problems, but now she cries and screams at the sound of it. I've done all I can think of to make her feel safe around it (I hold her, talk to her, etc.) I know she will eventually outgrow being afraid of it (unless she grows up to be like her daddy and be afraid of housecleaning :), but is there anything I can do in the meantime to help ease her fears? Has anyone else had this trouble or anything similar (she does not seem fearful of any other loud noises) Thanks!

I would contact irobot and the battery should be under warranty. My roomba is 2 yr old and the battery doesn't last as long as it once did. I had problems with my scooba (also 2yrold) and they fixed the battery thing under warranty and haven't had any problems with it since.

Both my kiddos (4&7) were terrified of the vaccuum cleaner when they were little, but now they aren't as scared of the vaccuum. It is just the pitch of it because my vaccuum is LOUD!!! so she should outgrow it but it may take awhile...

good luck!

We set up our Roomba to work at night so it doesn't bother anyone.
As far as the battery issue - we have had the same problem. But so far have only replaced one battery. We've had our Roomba probably around 2 years.
Maybe get on-line and find some reviews on the newer models to see if they keep a longer battery life??
Good Luck!

We have a Scooba (the mop version of the Roomba) and when we have problems we call customer support and they're pretty helpful. It may save you some money to talk with them before you go buy a battery.

Have no roomba but a son that was afraid of the kirby we have. I eventually got him to ride it like a game. After he learned to ride it, whenever I started to vacuum, he would run to get on for a ride. I made it farther away from the carpet to account for his weight. He did this until he was to heavy for the vacuum to work right and for me to push him, but cured his fear. I think he was about one when we started the rides. I started them off when it was off, just pushing him around. Then would hold him, to get him used to the noise and then ask if he still wanted a ride but with the noise. The ride was the kicker. He loved it. I even have pictures of him sitting on the vacuum waiting for me to push him around.
Good luck,
L.

I am the mother of a child with mild autism. With his senses hieghtened to a lot of things (especially sounds) I can truly relate to the fear of the vacuum.

Sometimes it is just the pitch of the sound rather than the volume that is unsettling for the child. If it is something she does not like, just vacuum when she is at nap or asleep at night. I STILL vacuum under the kids' beds after bedtime (ages 8 and 11). (Wow! They could sleep through a blast off. LOL)

I hope it helps. :o)

Blessings,

P. <><

Just to let you know that my daughter was scared of the vacuum cleaner until she was about 5. At 6, she has now grown out of it. huh. it will pass. then she was afraid to see snails. Then it passed. Then one summer she did not want to leave the house because she was afraid of flies. this has also passed. Just keep her comfy and it will pass.

Can't answer the battery question, but yes the fear thing is normal. And when she gets over the fear, she'll turn it on/off/on/off/on/off, etc. And then she'll try to sit on it. I can't remember where I put the plug for it cause I had to "hide" it from our son. When I find it, I'm going to have to run the thing at night cause he's NOT afraid of it anymore :)
