I wrote a couple of weeks ago, looking for advice about switching doctors. You all were GREAT with very helpful repsonses! My insurance will cover some of those doctors, but the ones it covers are farther from my house. These 2 doctors are close by - but nobody wrote in about them. If anyone out there sees or has seen either of them, could you let me know how your experience was and if you would recommend we switch to either of them? (Or is it worth the drive to go to one of the other doctors everyone has already recommended!). Thanks!

J.

Well, I have a very different story about my child’s abdominal pain where Dr. Kosoff immediately diagnosed her with an appendicitis and in a very short time had the ER make all the arrangement to treat her. We feel given his training and background he is a highly respected doctor and will continue taking our children to him because his diagnosis is right on track and he really takes the time with the kids.

I have heard of such little and mean vindictive people who feel empowered with the internet to go about trashing great doctors for the slightest reason and believe the other patient’s parents are likely such people and out of touch.

We will continue trusting Dr. Kosoff care and will continue recommending him to all of our friends and family.

This doctor kosoff and his staff at his office were great to my kid. He knew my kid had to have stomach surgery and did everything for us so we did not have to wait long in the hospital after he rushed us there.

If you are talking about Dr. Villegas the OBGYN, then I have heard of her. She is my sister in law's OB and I hear she is wonderful. Hope this helps.

I do not know either of them. We live in Riverview and go to Health Point Group with Dr. Champoux-Rhodden and I like them. They open early and stay open till 7pm. I have heard Dr. Tappan's group which is Pediatric Health Choice is pretty good too.
Hope that helps
PS I work for a pediatric hospital and have not heard about those docs.

Dr. Kosoff took one look at my kid and sized up all his problems and really took a great deal of time and care with him which his other specialists and pediatrician did not. We were all very impressed and my child rashes, allergies, sinusitis, asthma and appetite problems all have resolved as he promised. I can go on but suffice it to say he is one great, caring doctor and I will continue to go way out of the way to tell everyone I meet about how good he is.

When my daughter was first born, I went to Dr Kosoff. I only visited him once and I was not impressed. In fact, I immediately switched because he didn't even really check her out (she was 3 days old). I ended up switching to Pediatric Healthcare Alliance...I go to the one on Parsons Ave, but there is a brand new one on big bend road. I really like Dr. Hough...but everyone I've seen was nice. The wait is sometimes long, but well worth it. I didn't see your original post, so I apologize if this is more info than you need.

HI J.,
Well, I must respond to this question because I had a terrible experience with DR. Kosoff. We are military and were signed up for this physician. He is a one man show with quite a disheveled unexperienced office. I had to bring my 4 yr old to him who was having abdominal pain. I waited 3 very long hours in his office (with an infant as well) to be seen. Once back there, I waited another hour. He finally comes in to look at my daughter. He tells me that she does not have "appendicitis" so it must be a virus. Well, knowing my little girl, I asked him for something to make her more comfortable or something to help with the nausea. HE tells me it a virus and to "wait" it out. Well, after 4 hours in his office, I was told to wait it out with no other options. Now, I was not comfortable with that and decided to open up the phone book for another physician. I happened to call Premier Care Peds out in Fishhawk. I not only talked with the physician over the phone but they saw my daughter immediately. Come to find out, she has a stricture in her bowel causing her to be "backed up" all the way to her stomach. She was in pain! So, the answer to that question, I personally would NOT recommend that office. He obviously misdiagnosed my child and come to find out, she was hours from hospitalization for treatment. Dr. Pruitt got her on track immediately and we have never looked back. I know it is tough with Tricare but it is worth the paperwork to get your children the proper care. I think it only takes 30 days for it to change if you are unhappy with your current physician. I didn't care what the cost was after that visit.
Hope this helps a bit....
