My daughter is almost 2. She' had 6 ear infections throughout her life. This last month and half she has just started her 3rd round of antibotics for the same ear infection. She hair allergy issues like me so I chalk it up to the pollen count. I hated giving her benedryl all the time so I went to Akins for natural relief. She has been on natural rememdy for 2 weeks now and the runny nose has stopped. I read that eliminated the binky reduces ear infections as well. I just threw them all out. I called the doctor sobbing and he agreed to let me come back in 10-15 days to re-evaulate his decision. I didn't know about pro-botics before a month ago. Does anybody know any nature rememdies to getting ear tubes? I don't want to cut my baby up! Why are all the kids getting tubes now days? Are we doing something wrong as parents? I will happily get them if she needs them. But is 6 excessive? Help!

What can I do next?

My mother took my brother off whole milk and put him on goats milk to avoid tubes, it worked great. He still to this day does not have tubes and he's almost 40

Just to back up some of the other moms. I will be 30 this summer and I had tubes in my ears when I was in the 3rd grade. There were 2 other kids in my class that year who had already had the procedure done. And please don't laugh because this really shows my age, but if you remember the sitcom "The Facts of Life" the characte Tuti (sp?) had tubes put in her ears and they centered an entire episode around it. This must have been sometime in the early 80's and common enough for the producers to create a whole episode about it! (I know, it's so pitiful that I remember this, but it was something I could relate to, since I had been through it!) This is not a new or rare procedure. Yes, it is scary to think about babies going under anesthesia but isn't it also scary to think that she could suffer permanent hearing damage from all the ear infections. I would weigh the options!

They will work if you get it done.

Also try the chiropractor. They're awesome for ear infections. :)

Hi Ro,
My sister believes in natural remedies as well and sometimes they work but other times you have to find something else. Two of my children had tubes and adenoids done. One at 1 year old and the other at 3 months old. It was the best thing we could have done. I had tubes when I was a child as well. My husband was very concerned when we had to do the surgery with or 3 month old but when he saw the difference it made within a week when it came time for our 1 year old to have it done he did not fight me on it. The surgery is really not like their are cutting into their. there is no incision and the surgery only takes about 30 minutes if that. I promise it will make your child's life easier for them and then you shouldn' have to worry about medications all the time. My son that had it done at 3 months, I couldn't cook supper in the evening without putting him in one of those babypack things on my front and cooking while holding him. It hurt his ears so bad for hime to be laid down that he would scream his head off. The pressure would build up on his ears and hurt him. He is now 5 years old and his tubes have just fallen out recently and we have not had ear infections since the surgery. My other child is 4 and still has his tubes in. Same thing with him, no ear infections since the surgery. Most parents that I know that have had to do it say they are glad that they did because of the difference it has made. Hopes this helps!!

Hi Ro!
Well I am glad to try to be of some help. First let me say that I do not feel that we as parents are doing anything wrong. Studies have shown that more children today are having ear infections, being diagnosed with asthma, and allergies. One of the leading cause of this is due to the exposure to chemicals. When I say chemicals I mean just common household cleaners we use on a daily basis. Nevertheless they are also exposed to them at school. Things like bleach and phosphates.
That brings me to my experience. My oldest daughter(now 9) had an ear infection just about every month during her first year. Well her Dr. did not want to jump into tubes so we did not discuss it. However, as she got a little older not only was she having the ear infections, but she was showing signs of allergies. When she was about 3 1/2 I took her to an ENT and told me that she had severe allergies and decided to put tubes in and put her on a daily allergy med. So we did that and for a while after that she continued to have the ear infections. IT was not until I made a change in my household that took her off the daily medication. I got rid of all the chemicals in my home and I am VERY proud to say that she no longer takes any medication and has not been to the doctor for an ear infection. I would highy suggest trying that first to see if that helps with the allergies and the ear infections. I have found ALOT of info about the how chemicals are related to many problems if you would like me to send you some. I can also give you some suggestions on great products to replace the ones that you use!! Thanks

Ro, my daughter is now 24 y/o. The only surgery she has ever had was 3 sets of ear tubes. First set was at 11 months of age. She had chronic ear infections. We felt the tubes were a better choice than all the antibiotics she was on. All the fluid was affecting her hearing, which in turn affected her speech. My 26 y/o son had only one set at 14 months. They both grew up just grand. If you must worry, worry about something else. Good luck to you and your little one!!

I have a 20 year old and a 13 year old and both of my boys had tubes. It was very helpful. After they were both about 2 1/2 or 3 years old they didn't have any more infections. I think it was much better than all the antibotics.
