Do You Wear a Bra in Your House?

I have always hated wearing bras when I'm home. I don't notice it when I'm out and about but as soon as I walk through my door, I suddenly become very aware of this contraption on my chest and have to take it off. LOL. This isn't a problem now as it's just my husband, my 18 month old son and me in the house but as my son gets older, I'm thinking it'd be inappropriate for me to go braless. Plus, what if his friends drop by and I'm braless! So that got me thinking, what do you mamas do? Always have a bra on at home? Any comfortable ones you recommend? Thanks!

What can I do next?

If I dont start out with a bra I wont wear one, but if I get dressed and go out I dont feel the need to rip it off when I get home. I personally dont like unexpected guests. So if you drop by my house without calling, there is a good chance Im going to be a hot mess with no bra and a messy house. Ooops, should have called.

I wear one until I'm putting on my pj's and ready to lay in bed. I cannot stand to have them flopping around. Could be that I'm a dd. I guess if I was a b cup, I would mind it so much.

not usually, im often in lounge wear, and have only a c cup, but if Im wearing a white tee in the house, yes, i wear my bra, a comfy nursing one, but i look for tops that have some lycra or whatever so they stretch a bit and flatter my breasts without emphasizing them. Out and about shopping or whatever, I think if you have a heavy chest, you should tie the girls up, no one wants to watch them swing around except some old perv! ok everyone should tie them up when their out, its just not right to be have them "hanging or standing tall and perky" imo.

ALWAYS.

But I'm also a 38DDD or 36DDDD, and naturally, so the girls don't stay where they belong without one.

It's just uber uncomfortable to outright painful not be wearing one.

I should add... it took years to find the "right" kind of bra. The kind that I can't feel and keeps the girls corralled. For me that's a non-stretch thin strapped lace underwire demi. And fit to a dream. With the triangle perfect over my sternum, the cups the right size (underwire shouldn't poke... if it's poking it's the wrong size), the band the right taughtness. For my sister she has to do full coverage wide strap stretch satin, my best friend needs a cross in the back stretchy strap jersey type.

I never wear a bra at home-but I also rarely wear one away from home, that's what camisoles are for. I can see why a person would feel obligated to wear one professionally, but I honestly don't understand what is 'wrong' with not wearing one at home or even on one's leisure time. Maybe it's the number of 'recovered' hippies in my family, or having spent a few of my developing years in Europe, but I really do not see what the big deal is about NOT wearing a bra...most women the world over have breasts and nipples, it's nothing to be ashamed of, right?

I understand that big busted ladies really do need the support, but that doesn't sound like your issue.

No, don't wear one at home.
I hate bras. Who doesn't.
I only wear, at home, a sports "bra" top, under my t-shirts.
I am not huge breasted. So its fine.

I don't have friends drop by unexpectedly... they always call first. And, you tell your son to always call you first, if when older, and his friends wanna come over. Its just courtesy. Not only that you may be bra-less... but maybe your house is not neat at that moment or you have other plans. So, no matter what... even my Husband will call first, if at any time his buddies are coming over.

It comes off when I walk in the door.

But if you try you can find bras that are more comfortable. I changed from under-wire bras several years ago and wear one that is more like a soft knit that I get from Lane Bryant. It is much more comfortable and smooth, no wires poking out when I lean over.

i go braless and my boys dont notice or if they notice dont mention it. if his friends drop by put on a sweat shirt it hides it. or cover up with a blanket. until they are about 12 they wont notice anyway. if you find a comfortable bra that doesnt ride let me know. ps unless you have really big nipples it may not be too obvious anyway.

Whenever I'm dressed,I always wear a bra and it's my 2 girls and hubby. As far as going braless, I think it depends on your size and what type of clothing you're wearing. If you're wearing a baggy sweatshirt, no problem. If you're in a lightweight t-shirt, you need to cover up.

I put on a bra when I get dressed. I don't like the thought of someone dropping by and me not having a bra on. I am fairly chesty as well. I think if I had a smaller bust size, I probably wouldn't wear one. I have a Hanes bra that I love love love love. It's just a Hanes Her Way that has lightly padded cups.
The best advice I can give, is to go get fitted. There are several department stores that do it, as well as Victoria's Secret. That will tell you what the proper size is for you. That should got a LONG way in helping. Also, try on a bra before you buy it. Make sure that it's going to work for you. Jump up and down, jog in place, bend over, etc to make sure the girls are going to stay put.

I often go braless, especially at home. It's family and there is nothing wrong with the natural state of the body. My four children range in age from 4 1/4 to 8 1/2; I have two boys & two girls. I nursed my youngest for not quite 4 years and I rarely wore a bra, even out and about. I will wear a bra though if my top is low cut, or very thin. Also, I will wear a nice soft comfortable one if I need a little extra support which every once in a while I feel the need for. Usually I'll just wear a cami and my top. And often, if the clothing item is bulkier such as a sweater, it's not obvious you're not wearing one. Before my little ones were born, I could sleep in my bra (even if it had underwires!) but now I just don't feel the need.

depends on how big you are and what type of clothes you wear. are you wearing revealing clothes, snug fitting? or loose? i am super busty so i have to wear a bra-even to bed or i am extremely uncomfortable. there are alot of "sleep bra"s out there that are great for lounging around in at home or even a quick trip to the store. victoria's secret has some cute ones and if you do a google search, i am sure you will find plenty!

Well you still have quite a while before your son will be bringing friends home! I wouldn't feel awkward about being braless in front of your son and his friends until they're around 11 y/o or so. I tend to wear bras more as I've gotten older, just for the support and because I don't enjoy seeing my own boobs sagging under my shirt. But oh, the feeling when that contraption comes off!

I do wear my bra all the time and sometimes even sleep in it.

I am a natural perky 34DD and plan to stay that way.

I've never had bras that were uncomfortable. I love Wacoal and I get them at Neimans.

Maybe you should have a bra sizing and find something comfy if you are looking to stay in a bra longer. The feeling of no bra is good sometimes too!!

All that said, I have nothing against someone braless or topless and in the right situation, beach, etc, I'm right there with you.

Sometimes I have one on, sometimes I don't! I am a DDD and soon to be nursing mom, so I have a feeling that these bad girls are gonna be constricted for the next year or so...but I absolutely take mine off when I get home! IF I do feel the need to wear one at home I usually will wear one that is cotton, no wire.

I do wear a sports bra when I can, I love the Danceskin avail at walmart. there are many sports bras that have good support and I know many who are top heavy that just wear two!

They looked at past behavior, including how tight the bras were and how long the women wore them. Here's what they found:

Women who wore a bra for 24 hours a day, had a 3 out of 4 chance of developing breast cancer.

If a bra is worn 12 hours a day, there was a 1 in 7 risk.

And women who didn't wear a bra had about the same rate of developing breast cancer as a man.

"So what's happening with the bra is that women are preventing the proper flushing of fluid and toxins out of their breasts," said Singer.

Singer claims a bra is too constricting, interfering with the body's lymphatic system.

This causes toxins to build up, eventually causing cancer.

"If you get rid of the bra, your breasts will finally be able to flush out the fluid," said Singer.

But mainstream medical doctors dismiss the study.

"There's no evidence in any of the world research data that I'm aware of that supports the fact that breast cancer risk is increased by wearing a bra or a bra that's too tight," said Dr. Ermilo Barrera of the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Barrera says women should get mammograms to reduce risk factors and not worry about their bras.

"Watch their weight, exercise, drink only in moderation and don't smoke," said Doctor Hussein.

Doctor Atif Hussein, Medical Director at the Memorial Cancer Institute calls the bra study interesting, but said, "it really is hard to tell you wearing the bra in itself was the contributing factor."

He says it's not the bra, but the risk factors of the women who wear them that is the deciding factor.

"Women who may be overweight tend to wear bras, therefore I would say the factors that contributed to those women wearing the bra contributed to their high risk rather than the bra itself," said Doctor Hussein. He said the issue should be studied more.

But despite criticism from the medical community, Singer is sticking to his mission saying, "there's absolutely nothing good about bras, it's completely a fashion accessory."

He is encouraging women to banish their bras for better health, saying, "We live in a culture where women feel insecure with a natural bust line, but if the price of fashion is disease, then you have to decide whether you want to participate in that or not."

Singer is now studying women who go bra-free to find out if they have lower rates of breast cancer.
