in my dogs mouth... Always know where they are and they are always cleaned well, just maybe not in that "new great look"
I just had an 'oh DUH' moment.
I've got all these shoes, and while most of the boxes are long gone, I still have a few of the newer pairs boxes and thought 'no sh!t, I could keep them in their boxes and stack them all up'... then I'd know which shoes are where, without having to dig through the ridiculous shoe pile in my closet.
[smacks head]... why hadn't I thought of this before?!
Do you store your shoes in the original boxes? If so, does it work as well as I'm thinking right now? If you don't, how do you store your shoes?
If I start storing them in boxes NOW, what do I do with the rest of these shoes? Keep them in a pile/box/basket?

I do not store my shoes in boxes, but if you wanted to, you could always get those clear plastic storage boxes that are shoebox size. I have even seen them at the dollar tree! As for me, I use one of those over the door shoe hangers with the pockets. I put my nice shoes in there and then I store my flip flops and sneakers in a line under the bed.
I only own 5 pairs of shoes so it's not an issue for me LOL they get tossed on the floor of my closet or taken off by the door.
thats a reeeaallly good idea.. my shoes are literally in a giant pile in my closet that i have to dig through to find 2 that match.. and i have a ton of shoes so its usually a process.. im banned from buying anymore until i get rid of some =( .. for your shoes that you dont have boxes for i would just get one of those plastic storage bin things and stack them all up neatly so you dont have to look for a match like i do ... i should really take my own advice
In a ridiculous shoe pile on my closet floor!
I'm not too organize, they are all on my floor... LOL
I too store my shoes in the clear plastic shoe size container with a picture on the front. I purchased them from Costco.
I have a three tier shoe rack that holds about 12 shoes, bottom row sneakers, middle high heels, top knee high boots. I have two pairs sitting infornt of the shoe rack that I wear daily (a brown flat & brown knee high boots).
I have seen shoes stored in the original boxes, for me that would only last so long since cardboard will break down at some point. You can put them in clear plastic storage containers, you can either just look through the clear plastic to see what is in them or label them.
There are tons of hanging shoe racks if you have the room. If you have a super nice walk in closet (I hope to have one some day) you could put in wooden shelves for your shoes to have their place of honor (I never spend that much on shoes but I do love fun shoes). This last one to me would be ideal if possible and easiest to see what you have :)
On a row in the floor of my closet. (Ok, 2 rows). And the pair I wear pretty much everyday are at the door between the laundry and garage door. But have you tried a few stackable shoe racks? Or one of my closets in a previous house had a built-in cube shelving thing--there were 10 cubes in one little built in tower. We used it for extra linens and "stuff" but you can get those cube things everywhere now (Target, etc) for pretty cheap. How many shoes are we talking here? (lol)
I'm not a shoe person, so I just put mine on a shoe rack. My best friend is a HUGE shoe person. She stores them in plastic tubs with a picture of the shoe on the front. They are stacked and she can always see which shoes are which.
I store them on open shelves in my closet. Boots on the lowest shelf. Boots that don't fit, on the floor.
I only keep my fancy, expensive shoes in their boxes and write which shoes they are on the outside. Too much work to do the pic thing. All other shoes are on a series of racks.
But I just learned a new trick for tall boots! Put clean, empty wine bottles in them and they keep their shape! No wrinkles or lines from bending over. Have fun!
I have all mine thrown in a big laundry basket in my closet. I keep the expensive ones at the top so they don't get banged up.
I saw somewhere where somebody kept them in those clear storage shoe boxes and taped pictures of the shoes inside to the front of the box, that way you didn't have to rifle through the boxes to know which one you wanted! I thought that was brilliant, but I don't own enough shoes to implement the idea, and even if I did, would I really take pictures of all of my shoes and take the time to do that? Probably not...
I don't keep shoe boxes - they take up too much space. I have a hanging bag on my closet door and I limit my shoe collection to as many pairas as the bag will hold, plus a few pairs of boots that sit on the closet floor. I cheat a bit, though, because depending on the design (ballet flats for example), I can sometimes fit two shoes into a pouch intended for one.
I don't have too many shoes anymore. I used to have a lot, but I mostly wear sneakers or sandals. I keep them on the floor in my closet, but when I had many pairs of heels and nicer shoes I had shoe racks. I had one on the back of the door and one that hangs in the closet for boots.
I bought the clear plastic shoeboxes. I can easily see what is what and the shoes don't get dusty. The boxes are easy to stack and are far more durable than the cardboard boxes. I rotate in season and out of season easily too. One must keep the Imelda closet clean or run the risk of losing the privilege of an entire closet devoted to shoes.
I have all of mine in a clothes basket on the floor of my closet. But I don't have a lot of shoes, nor do I have "nice" shoes. I live in AZ so we live in flip flops and sandals practically year round and if not, I have Crocs, a couple pairs of tennis shoes and some boots and thats it. =)
I use a sweater organizer for the closet- the tall skinny, cloth vertical hanger. I have 3 of these in my closet, & they work great. My younger son also uses one.
I have 2 over-the-door hangers, and the rest are stored in original boxes, neatly labelled. One of the over-the-door hangers is hanging over my husband's closet door, and one is hanging over our bedroom door. My closet door has a mirror hanging on it, so I can't hang a shoe holder on it. My boots (5 pairs) sit on a high shelf in the top of my closet. This system works pretty well, but I have a ton of shoe boxes stacked in my closet.
We do store shoes in their original boxes - it helps to keep the closet neater. We also had some shoes that we didn't have boxes for, so we went and bought some plastic storage bins about the same size as shoe boxes and voila!
I have mine is a shoe thing. My shoe boxes all get set aside for future school projects lol
No I don't store my shoes in the original boxes. I store them in the clear shoe size boxes I found in Target or Wal-Mart, and I stack them on top of each other in my closet. I just leave out those I am wearing in the current season. I try to keep shoes I actually wear in every season of the year, and that helps a lot!
You sound like me! I started storing them in their boxes a yr ago. They keep longer. I was at work recently and spilled something on my shoes, a co-worker said" Man that sucks cause those are brand new right?" They are over a yr old! I do plan on switching to those boxes at the container store though. Even though I know what brand is in the box, I often dont know which shoe it is exactly. I know ppl who tape pictures of the shoe on the box to help. If you go to a shoe store they often have boxes. Some people refuse to take the boxes and they just throw them out. Talk to the manager, they might save them for you to pick up at the end of the week. Good Luck!
Hi, R.:
Donate the ones you don't wear.
That'll help some what.
Just a thought.
D.
No I don't. I need to "see" them to remember I have them.
I'm lucky--I have a closet the length of the wall of the master bedroom ALL to myself, so all of my shoes are in neat rows, out of the boxes, so I can see them.
I store my shoes in their original boxes in the closet. Instead of having them stacked on top of each other, I have them organized into some plastic egg crates that I can stack, so it's like 3-4 boxes per crate, depending on how big the shoe boxes are. The long boot boxes sit on top. You could also buy an inexpensive short bookshelf and stack your boxes that way too, depending on the size of your closet.Shoes that I don't have boxes for, I'll arrange together in a clear plastic box, or a left over shoe box (e.g. my two pair of silver dress shoes fit nicely together in one box). I do have a shoe rack in our downstairs coat closet though for all of our family's 'quick' shoes like ballet flats, sneakers and flipflops that we wear on a regular basis.
You can find the clear plastic boxes at the dollar store - and maybe get away with 2 pairs per box :) That will help keep the cost down!
